There wasn't one but two earthquakes 8 hours apart. So its devastating effect was much greater. There were also many aftershocks. These aftershocks will continue for a very long time. Just a few minutes ago there was a new 5.1 aftershock.
Meanwhile, 258 hours later another person was pulled out of the rubble alive. More people would've been saved had the rescue efforts started earlier and more organized. What happened is very sad but we'll overcome this.

Discount tackle and country always experience earthquake in their region so sometimes I began to ask what is the things that really cause this earthquake in their region is it that the place is being polluted or is being excavated or is being drained with a dredger so I don't understand why some area of this particular country or always experience earthquake in their environments
Have you ever heard about thing called tectonic plates? Turkey and Syria is located in crossroads of 3 tectonic plates - Anatolian, Arabian, and African plates. They touch and interact with each other and it's tectonically active area. Unfortunately, this region always will be at risk of earthquake, and there is not much what human can do to. Here more detailed article explaining it:

Countries located in such dangerous regions should follow Japan example. They have very strict requirement for buildings and it can withstand earthquakes. Even skyscrapers!

A devastating earthquake struck both Turkey and Syria last Monday, in a humanitarian catastrophe that the two countries had not witnessed in decades. According to the latest news of the victims issued today by international news agencies, the death toll exceeded 26,000 dead on both sides, in addition to the collapse of more than 6,000 buildings and the displacement of no less than 5 million people. It is a human tragedy by all accounts.

As usual, the countries of the world mobilized to provide assistance to the affected people, since the two countries are already suffering from economic difficulties.
Turkey has been living in an economic crisis since years, and it is hardly trying to save its economy in light of many international variables, including the global energy crisis after the outbreak of the Ukrainian war. The elections are close in Turkey, and the earthquake will certainly affect the results of the vote, in light of the accusations of the Turkish government of failing to rescue and compensate those affected.
Syria has already been suffering from a civil war for 12 years, and its economy cannot bear such environmental disasters, especially since the country has been living under Western sanctions since the outbreak of the war, and there are no real capabilities that can be relied upon.

What a terrible incident that happened in Turkey and Syria. My heart and prayer are with them. Whenever our country experiences typhoons and the same calamity, help from different parts of the world were coming. I've just seen a kid that has been rescued after the collapse of a building. I'm happy to see that kid being rescued and survived but it cannot change the fact that there were a lot of lives taken.  Cry

It was very shocking to see how the apartment buildings and others looked so easy to collapse, and this reminds me of the tsunami some time ago that occurred in my country and there were many victims and it took years to get out of the trauma.
My prayers to all the people in Turkey and Syria, those who are survived and the rescue workers who are struggling to save possible people buried under the rubble, and also the members of this forum who are from Turkey who may now be victims either because their homes were one of the destroyed or others.

That was a heartbreak earthquake. Footage of the incident live really shows how disaster out it was. I can’t imagine living somewhere that this could happen. So many buildings built to not withstand Mother Nature. I half expected this thread to be littered with conspiracy theories about how this could be a response to them getting f16s, but I guess it’s still early. Prayers to the citizens of Turkey and Syria.

Coming up with any kind of conspiracy theory here would take stupidity and ignorance really to the next level, but I get you. It wouldn't be surprising either these times. So before anyone really decides to come up with some insane theory, better get familiar with seismic fault lines, how they work and please explain how someone might have influenced anything...

The worst thing is the constantly growing number of victims. Every time I refresh my news ticker the number goes up significantly. This is a disaster. It is not even certain at this point whether more impactful earthquakes are underway. They have had hundreds of smaller ones just within this short period of time.

It is good to see though that the world seems to be sticking together and everyone is willing to help.

Tragic event unfolding in Turkey, my heart goes out to all the families who have lost loved ones. Life is not fair sometimes, one of the the worst things is that this came out of nowhere. Nobody had a warning about this, nobody could prepare for it, nothing could be done.

Mother nature is so cruel at times, this reminds me of the Tsunami that took so many lives years ago. All we can do is pray for the people who have lost their lives & hope the grieving families get all the help they need.

Seeing what happened, I feel absolutely terrified about the massive number of people who died during the catastrophe.

We pray to God every day to protect as, but when such things happen, we begin to question if he really exists. It's like we humans are on our own and the fairy tale holy book stories seem like some consolation stories meant to just keep humankind in order and control.

It's shocking to see huge apartment buildings falling like house of cards just in a few seconds. It's more shocking when you know that it's full of people who had no chance to survive.
My thoughts with people of Turkey and Syria who are affected by this huge tragedy.

I half expected this thread to be littered with conspiracy theories about how this could be a response to them getting f16s, but I guess it’s still early. Prayers to the citizens of Turkey and Syria.

Is a devastating situation out there and it so heartbreaking watching the video footage, and rescue officials losing hope of getting survival in the wake of their rescue mission.
