How to "get in" for lower $$$ and get better bang per buck https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.4304284

Though suitable as a get your feet wet and hobby scale approach only, if you're going industrial scale you don't want to be dealing with 4 GPUs where one will do.

(edit: by the way, $500 in one month for 550kh at time of post was one unusual month I guess, I was still stunned from the holidays and hadn't really seen how difficulty had climbed, probably was thinking pre-christmas... that's how quick things change)

Yeah I just spent over 400 for a rig but it'll make 140/monthly at the current market for doge. But I think it's worth it. I'm a PC gamer and enthusiast it's more of having something to do (while setting up) for me. My 140 projection doesn't include power and/or downtime.

1000 khash makes about 0.008BTC a day on middlecoin according to recent posts in their thread. 1000 khash makes about $6.82 a day on LTC at time of post according to this http://bitcoinwisdom.com/litecoin/difficulty and due to hashpower shifting around you tend not to get more than about 20% more profit on anything else for very long.

Due to recent price inflation and stock shortages, $500 only gets you 700-800 Kh worth of GPU

Margins is slim me boys.

At least in Europe, neither 280s not 290s available right now.

btw: that's not a 100 day payoff because difficulty will rise once R9 290s become widely available...

Yup it's getting crazy, about $500 worth of GPU gets you about $5 a day, 100 day payoff at current prices/difficulties... that's without motherboards, PSUs, paying electricity etc.

It's making 3 month projected payoffs on ASIC bitcoin mining equipment such as the KNC Neptune (link in sig) seem reasonable again.

Brand new to mining and bitcoin/altcoins. Spent the past couple weeks doing a significant amount of research and rig building. I decided I would just go ahead and overpay for all the hardware I needed with the hopes of breaking even in a few months, so I overpaid about $100 per gpu from newegg...I tried several other sites but no one could even give me an ETA on gpus. Figured the extra money now would equal out to all the time wasted not mining.  Rig has been up for a few days and I'm already addicted and wanting to build another one lol. I'll probably try to wait until the prices come back down a little. Anyone having good luck finding reasonably priced gpus in the past few weeks?
