Patrick sold off his Overstock stake valued at nearly 100 million dollars and presumably put some of the funds into BTC & RVN...

The man isn’t scared to follow his beliefs.
This is what I heard a few days ago too and that is alot of money to be pumping into these two cryptos.
It shows his belief in the originator which the blockchain was founded on and the other project still in its infancy compared to bitcoin and litecoin.
Even if he doesnt understand what he is investing in. Cheesy

He’s been involved in crypto a long time now. I’m certain he understands what he’s investing in.

Hats off to him if this isn't bullshit.

Is there anyway to truly verify that this is the case, or is it just going to be a trust him if you want or don't type of thing?

The craziest part of this story in my mind is the fact that former FBI agents, CIA agents and so on and so forth have stated that parts of this story and the way that the FBI/CIA contacted and worked with Byrne matched up with the way that the these agencies operate. Meaning that unless Byrne is just able to guess how very indepth counterintelligence works, this is the truth.

This is a crazy story and I want to check back here in a couple weeks to see if there are any updates.
It is really "a crazy story" i have read several tweet on his resignation as the overstock CEO and also removing himself as board members. The new CEO has also assured that he is going to work on the same part of Byrne. You can also get all the news here: https://www.coindesk.com/dont-worry-overstocks-new-ceo-is-already-drinking-the-bitcoin-kool-aid

Hmm, talk like that about the Governor of the state you are headquartered in. Yeah, that's going to be good for tax breaks and other favors.

TECSHARE I know you sell things on the forum, if you were setting up a store in some town and you REALLY REALLY REALLY hate the mayor of said town are you going to:
1) Keep your mouth shut in public and try not to deal with or interact with them.
or
2) Call them out and hope that your stores permits don't accidentally wind up the the shredder.

Be honest, you are either going to open the store someplace else or go with #2.
Eliminate the "I'll get them voted out" or other things. It's the end of August and you want to have your mystery boxes on sale in a retail environment for Christmas.

That is my problem with Byrne

The big 5 CEOs everyone knows. Apple, Amazon, WalMart, Berkshire etc. It's just way it is.
Some of the financial ones we might be more aware of here because of the Banks vs. Bitcoin thing.

But do you know the name of the CEO of FedEx? State Farm? IBM? Boeing? or do they shut up and do their job?
...

Your problem should be with the board of directors.  Everyone knows who Byrne is and what he does.  The board should have fired him if they didn't want to deal with his character and/or his baggage, and if they could not for whatever reason and the shareholders who didn't agree should have sold and moved on.

As a consumer I would favor Overstock over the competition because of Byrne and what he has done for victims of the financial system crime syndicate.

As an investor (if I played around with paper instruments at all) I would favor Overstock because Byrne has a demonstrated track record of fighting for his shareholders when they are getting fucked rather than taking some payolla, letting the company get ass-raped by financial criminals, and moving on.  Overstock is still around while a lot of other companies who fell victim to naked short selling schemes are a distant memory.

Read more into the story. Apparently the FBI was involved and was basically instructing his involvement in some cases. I am not saying that absolves him of all responsibility, but they definitely have the ability to coerce people in addition to a track record of using informants, insane, and legally retarded people to craft criminal plots in order to bust them and increase their own budget and profile.

It absolves him of NOTHING. Unless the FBI agent was Jeff Dunham and had his hand up Byrne's ass and was moving his mouth.
Look back though the years he has shot his mouth off time and time again.

Just one of the delightful things that he has said:
[url https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/the-wild-west-of-the-internet-b-c-mans-seven-year-ordeal-ends-with-million-dollar-libel-awardand[/url]

Lets not forget his years long battle with naked short sellers. One that he loves to point to saying yeah I won.
You won??? You spent more on legal fees then you received in the judgement. And generated ill will from MANY investors.

And lets not forget this one:

Quote
Byrne criticized Utah governor Jon Huntsman for not sufficiently supporting the voucher campaign. According to Byrne, Huntsman had before he was elected stated that he was "going to be the voucher governor", and Byrne had donated $75,000 to Huntsman's campaign for governor in 2004. However, to Byrne's disappointment, the moment Huntsman was elected he went missing from the debate, and Byrne told the Associated Press that he would now bankroll anyone who could defeat Huntsman at the polls, "even a communist".

I totally understand your viewpoint and consider it completely valid, however, I think you may be underestimating the depth of government involvement in this case.

I am sure all of these events are completely unrelated.

I love the "Make America Grateful Again" hat.  Being a fan of the Grateful Dead, Trump, and being a self-described patriotic, gun-totin' hippie myself I find that really cool.

I really had no exposure to Patrick Byrne, and have never used OverStock.com.  I'm quite empathetic to his plight, he genuinely seems scared and concerned for his own safety.  I hope he doesn't become a statistic in #clintonbodycount.  We need more business leaders with this guy's moral compass.

No, we need more business leaders to shut the fuck up and run their businesses.

I don't care if you are on the Left running Ben & Jerry's or on the right running Snapper. Your job is to run your company and make it money. Every word that comes out of your mouth and every email that you send you should think long and hard about.

It sucks to be you making millions of dollars but have to walk on eggshells about what you say. Tough shit, deal with it.
You want to be Mr. or Mrs. nobody in middle management, fine talk your head off.

You are running a big company, does not matter what side you are on left or right. You know what. There are other big companies that are run by people WHO ARE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE THAT YOU ARE ON. And you have to consider how they may or may not react.

That's your fucking job as CEO.
Don't like it. Quit and go flip burgers.

When he stepped down Overstock stock went up and was looking much better (until this entire tariff thing). Why because guess what, big institutional investors like CEOs and boards that shut the fuck up and run the business.

-Dave

Sorry, this is just one of those things that annoys the crap out of me. In case you could not tell from the number of fucks in the above post.

Number of fucks observed is estimated at zero.   Cheesy

But I don't think you've quite got the grasp of the words coming out of his mouth.  As Tecshare mentioned this much more than some entitled douchebag blabbering about his exalted, and well funded opinions.  This man has evidence of the corruption in our government.

I'll only briefly mention the point of your post, because I feel it is off topic; I disagree on shear principal.  No human should feel compelled to remain silent due to his occupation.  I say that knowing fully well that on most matters of governance I tend to disagree with most of the outspoken, wealthy CEO's.

Byrne's work on naked short selling informed my understanding of financial instruments and the so-called regulators of them which, in turn, had a huge impact on my perception of Bitcoin when it came along later.

I would suspect that the person or people known as 'Satoshi' were also familiar with the fruits of Byrne's 'extracurricular activities'.

Byrne has a knack for being a thorn in certain people's sides.  I'm surprised he even remained among the living long enough to have his current problem.

This story is like something out of a movie.  I'm still digesting it and reading various conspiracy theories, but there's definitely a lot of smoke here.  I'm genuinely scared for Patrick Byrne and sad that such a prominent business figure/crypto supporter felt like he had to run away to protect his shareholders.  Watch the strange interview linked below.  There is no doubt in my mind that while the media will try to brush this out of view, it is worth paying attention to.

http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/6075914613001/

I have a feeling if Patrick isn't 'suicided' this will be one hell of a story.
