Indeed pain let us know we are alive. However i will suppose no one will want to have pain to know they are alive. Pain is not God's way of saving your life. Pain is a signal that tells that something needs urgent attention. That something is not right. Without pain animals would not evolve. It's a factor of continuing life. You would keep eating something that's poisonous if it doesn't hurt. (But, but, some poison doesn't hurt.)
The internet disagree with you, according to Wikipedia, Pain is a distressing feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli.
