It's going to take you a hell of a long time to become Staff or a Mod here. Very few people get chosen for such roles.

Exactly. I think one of the reason why i certain user becomes a mods was because they were good or shall we say a veteran already in this forum. Tho only theymos i think is capable of analyzing if that certain user deserves a spot and willing as well

If you want to be the moderator for a specific section, it probably would help to be an active and well contributing member of that section. Report posts as appropriate, conduct yourself relatively well, be helpful, and understand the rules. Most new moderators require a little bit of time to adjust to it, so its not like you need to know EVERY single detail immediately, but at least know when to ask other moderators if you have a question. You essentially want to get Theymos' attention, though I will note, being banned for spamming or other rule breaking probably isn't a good way to get that attention.

Asking to be a moderator just about never helps, unless you want to be the moderator of a local section that uses a foreign language. Then that local community is pretty much asked who they would all be happy having as a moderator, and suggestions are accepted then.

Being a mod id a thankless task. Whatever you do , someone will object and try to trash you.

I was under the impression that Mods/staff got paid.

I think it would be really cool if we paid/made a Jr. Staff where they are paid like $10 an hour and work for designated times just cleaning up spam and banning rule breakers.

But with Lauda not being on staff anymore, I am going to assume there is an opening unless it as been filled?

Besides theymos, cryrus, hilalrious, I cant name anymore staff/mods off of the top of my head which makes me believe that they are not as active posters as Lauda was/is.

Personally if we had to vote on a new staff member my vote would go to Zepher because I am going to assume OGnasty/Blazed turned down the position.

I don't like to be on the politics either anyways lol but if you were given a chance and receives payment while doing the job then I think there would be no reason for us to not accept the position however we should do a lot of things before you were to be considered.

Technically it is not referred to as a salary, but yes they get paid.

I think it would be really cool if we paid/made a Jr. Staff where they are paid like $10 an hour and work for designated times just cleaning up spam and banning rule breakers.
That would probably not work especially not considering the current setup.

But with Lauda not being on staff anymore, I am going to assume there is an opening unless it as been filled?
You could argue that, but some sections have no dedicated moderators (excluding hilariousandco and CyrusV) but you don't see an 'opening' for those either.

Personally if we had to vote on a new staff member my vote would go to Zepher because I am going to assume OGnasty/Blazed turned down the position.

There are 28 staff members (including admins, global moderators). So it is not necessary that one person being removed from the staff list automatically necessitates a replacement.
And you don't need to be an active poster to be a staff.  Smiley

I show 29 members.

LOL Grin

I do not want to be nominated for a position working for the forum. I do appreciate you thinking of me as a good candidate, though I fail to understand why I would be a good candidate for staff when ~95% of my posts are in the Collectibles section.

I am a trader here, simple as that. I make a shitload of deals and act as middleman for a shitload of deals as well. Recently I have also been escrowing for certain people, as well as being escrow for the 2 biggest raffles in Bitcointalk History. This was new ground to me, and is not something I want to do to earn extra BTC. I know I am highly trusted here, and deal with tens of thousands of dollars of users BTC each month, but I just do not have the time, nor the patience, to be escrowing frequently.

That said - I will repeat this - I do not want a job here. I have one already, but on my own terms. Terms that I personally am happy with.

Thanks.

Don't they get paid for doing it? I thought a percentage of forum income is used to pay the mods. I see no reason somebody would want to become a mod for free, it's a time-consuming job.

Lol somebody is crazy about your mom, she must be hot.
really time consuming. If u are the type that barely read the topics here and want to get involve just because of the pay. Grin. u are joking. I also notice how vast they are in block technology and other latest ICT info.

Unnecessary considering there are already moderators for sections that deal with reported posts. Adding another rank to the mix would only complicate things more. If staff are necessary then they will be hired -- there's no need for a "Jr. Staff" position.

Besides theymos, cryrus, hilalrious, I cant name anymore staff/mods off of the top of my head which makes me believe that they are not as active posters as Lauda was/is.

Depends on the sections that you frequent, and it's selection bias really. You didn't name BadBear on there, who was notable in the past. The names are likely just due to your most recent encounters and your memory.

Being a mod in this forum is not a part of a single plan. Tho if given a chance then why not but maybe it would not last longer i just want the experience more than that I guess this forum is kinda hard to moderate anymore because spammers as well keeps on evolving and innovating which is not good for a mod

I saw those posts pop up every so often two days ago.
It was someone that had a vendetta against him I would dare to guess.
But they eventually banned him from creating accounts to just post those slandering messages about his hot mom. Grin

Not when you're hilariousandco or Cyrus.

Barely you'd see anyone opening threads about their decisions being wrong.Grue could be next but he isn't active much these days.

Why would you want to be a mod? Report a lot of posts with decent accuracy and if an admin thinks you're needed they may ask you eventually, but asking to be one is usually the wrong way to go about it.

I just wanted to know the process for it..thanks

There are mods, the only one i can think of off hand is Cyrus. i believe the owner or main mod of Bitcointalk is theymos. to answer your question, no. They have no need for more Cooks to spoil the broth.
The closest you could get without knowing the mods personally is to get your account to a hero member status, with a couple of hundred positive trust ratings.

Hi,

Is there a way for a person like me to be a staff at BCTalk or a moderator?

How are the current people selected and made staff?

Can someone throw some light on it

thanks
