I admit that, with the final script being even larger than shown here, transaction fees will probably be quite large, but as long as the transaction value is more than the fee, it might be worth it. Please note that, in the context of the problem I'm trying to solve, these scripts will rarely be actually published on the block chain, so the average fee you'll have to pay will be much lower.
