Wait, when did Uber decide to implement such a function?
Rumors about the adoption of cryptocurrencies by Uber have been circulating for a long time, but so far they haven't given a definite provision about when it will be realized, from some media I've read, actually Uber has been planning this since 2018 and until now the plan is only limited to The discourse without any realization on the part of Uber and the reason they are still delaying the adoption of cryptocurrency as payment is because the exchange mechanism is expensive and not good for the environment, and this reason seems to be a barrier to Uber intention to adopt cryptocurrency so far.

Once I saw the bitcoin logo on a taxi and I asked do you accept bitcoin? he said yes, but the payment in bitcoin he received only personally not from the taxi owner, and I think this is a good idea that makes it easier for us to use bitcoin in real transactions.
I thought it was and it really helped to get into strong Bitcoin adoption. This is a way we look forward to seeing that Bitcoin is another means of currency and having such an option will give us the way to spend our Bitcoin sometimes. Some people will think we are near to failure to consider that Bitcoin will become another form of currency and they are wrong, we are getting closer to succeeding.

It is a good thing those businesses and organisations now accepting the use of the crypto currency, especially the bitcoin itself as one of the payment most of the people today uses now online payment and they don't want to get a hassle on it and it's a win-win thing for each side.  If Uber makes an additional payment of bitcoin it has a separate wallet to their platform? It's like other crypto wallets that needed to load or top-up better once it's got transferred need to have fix value.

This is good news even this may not be implemented right now yet.
But at least, their CEO had the statement about accepting Bitcoin in the future. Maybe, they are still in progress to be ready enough with the payment method.
So far, as long as Bitcoin is legal in the country as one of the payment methods,. why not? It may help easiness to any kind of payement.
Glad to know this, hopefully this will be realized soon.

I think I've read something like this before but I can't just remember what it was, maybe it was Ethereum, not Bitcoin but, it's still the same process and that's what we want. There are restaurants, bars, and other stores already accepting crypto currency as a payment for their everyday life so paying Bitcoin for your taxi fare is a success hoping to have more adoption.

I hope to see more stores and apps that would accept Bitcoin as a means of payment and not the other way around. Although, there are stores and apps accepting it already yet it's still not enough to expand the adoption.

Yes. I like the analogy that we are like in the use of the internet back in 1996-1999. In the future you're going to be able to pay everywhere with crypto in the same way that everyone carries a cell phone with an internet connection today. This we see from Uber and other companies are the steps we are taking in that direction.

I expect a lot of innovation to come from people developing applications for the cryptocurrency.

It's not just about using it in a way to pay for things anymore. The people building applications for cryptocurrency are going to come up with lots of novel things. They will come up with new ways to use your money that we don't even know about today. We see that with fintech. We see that with innovation in gambling sectors as well.

The good part is they are agreeing to accept it as payment at some point in future which means they are heading forward to little adoption and figuring out how will they implement it.The Uber service is widely used in major countries and they will start from US and then maybe extend it to next nations if they find it suitable and more people feel comfortable in paying with it.

You will see more companies joining the list of btc acceptance as soon as they realise it's non avoidable and really helpful.

Would this be a worldwide adoption of Uber ? or just in US  ? but still this would be a great news to come with because i wanted to use my crypto even in paying taxi fare .

Wish also that this will be available in my country as well.

This is the kind of news I want to be hearing, not some bunch ignoramuses trying to ban Bitcoin. We should understand that Bitcoin is a borderless system of payment and any company that decides to add it to their payment structure is doing the right thing by moving in the flow of present day reality.
Great news from Uber, if this is true.

Totally agree on this , such a great news to hear and not another FUD of Banning or regulation .

Great News This kind of news makes us very happy. Thus maybe one day the whole world will launch this bitcoin where all transactions. It is understood that Uber will launch the transaction soon. And taxi bills will be able to transact through all bitcoins.I hope this transaction system is launched very soon.
Not immediately, but still being considered whether you really want to be adopted or not. Uber is still doing research to ensure that bitcoin can be an optional payment instrument.
The adoption of bitcoin for taxi payments or services like this requires fast and instant transactions and of course everything still has to be thought about and adjusted, because it takes a long time to confirm bitcoin. maybe if you really want to adopt bitcoin, uber will provide a special platform or system that uses bitcoin or is integrated in its application. Everything is still being considered, we'll just have to wait and see if Uber will actually make it happen.
It is a good thing that they didn't rushed things because rushing things can make them disappointing if ever they ran into a problems and they could disallow their btc use again. Nobody wants to wait in every service and since we know that bitcoin is slow, maybe the costumers can pay in advance or book their rides now if they are going to use the service the next day or two.

In that way, they can accept their costumers payments and can confirm them to their list. Increasing the fee a little bit can also help to speed up the transaction process and i think the costumers wont complain with it because most users of uber taxi are i think rich people.

So going back to the main topic, we don't have Uber yet here in the Philippines (we only have Grab Taxi). But no matter which brand is it for taxi services like Uber, I would like to see it happen one day. I was imagining myself paying my taxi fare with BTCs hehe.
it is not that the Philippines don't have Uber yet instead Uber stopped their Business here couple years ago leaving Grab to with no competitor those days and i don't think if they are coming back again.
According to the article, uber has yet to say exactly when they will accept bitcoin payments. We'll have to wait until they implement it, but this is a very good start when a traditional world-sized company considers accepting crypto payments.
I am very optimistic that uber will have an official announcement soon, maybe they did a lot of research before releasing this information, not a joke.
of course Uber is still looking for People support and response about this plan , so in case there is a massive call then they will surely let this happen ASAP.

Have you ever seen a taxi driver being robbed and have you ever seen a taxi passenger being robbed?
This is the reason I say payment for cargo taxis is safer with Bitcoin, see what I mean.

Despite what you say, it's hard for me to see your point. Anyone can become a victim of robbery, and anything can be robbed, even bitcoin.
Have you ever heard of the $5 wrench attack? In the end, there is no foolproof way to protect against such attacks, and bitcoin is no more secure than fiat.

What you say is true, everything can happen when the time is right.
Even though they make payments with bitcoin, if they have been guarded and monitored, of course, robberies will still occur, especially if the robbing is a senior in the crypto world of course it is very easy for them to rely on various ways to rob the taxi driver.

I have no idea the stand of the Uber's CEO towards accepting bitcoin. But I'm always optimistic when it's being talked about as a payment for their services.

There is a possible chance that they'll soon accept it as they have probably already know that they can convert it immediately to fiat if they prefer by just using another third party as for this acceptance.

It is only a matter of time before other companies will integrate bitcoin or other crypto in their payment system. As the adoption is growing, some of these companies will indeed add alternative payment methods now that a lot are going cashless. So the addition of crypto is actually a very good candidate to be included in digital payment methods. As you said, if they don't want volatility to affect the amount that they received, they can always opt to USD conversion once they received the payment. Because the most common problem of these merchants is the fluctuating price of bitcoin why they are still hesitant about it.
They'll add it if the owner of it decides to accept it and they see the potential of it.

Because even if we know that it's a good alternative payment for their business, they can also decline if they want to because they see that it's not going to help their business and operation.

But one thing they start knowing about that they can control the fluctuation through using a third party service to convert crypto payment into fiat quickly, they'll surely not gonna have any problem on this.

Paying for your taxi fare on the Uber Bitcoins app could become a reality, according to the company’s CEO. The American taxi services giant would consider adding the crypto payment option to its application.

One more announcement that shows how cryptocurrency adoption is increasing at a dizzying pace. If traditional companies prefer the NTF sector and decentralized metaverse to engage in crypto-verse, more and more would assess the importance of allowing their clients to pay with their cryptocurrencies.

The US phone giant and the world’s largest market capitalization, Apple, announced during the week that Apple Pay users will be able to use the iPhone’s “Tap to Pay” feature to make payments in crypto-currencies with major traders and companies.
Uber And Bitcoin: A When The Wedding?

Uber would certainly join the list of companies that have decided to offer bitcoin payment options in the future. To the question: Will Uber accept cryptocurrencies in the future? Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told Bloomberg that the company would accept “absolutely, at some point” crypto payments.

I wonder how much the client paid you per live link? Hmmm….. Huh

no, you are not wrong, it's just I'm sharing my blogger and if you notice I'm not adding any adsence so I'm not earning anything I'm doing this because I love it so please just support, thank you

Okay I see. Because in my mind there are link builders and spammers out there who hired people to use the company's Bitcointalk account and spam a lot in the forums. It's just that I've encountered those before. But since it is your personal blog and explained your intentions, so yep we're okay with that.

How would that actually work, is it an off-chain solution? Perhaps, a fully custodial wallet with 'instant' transactions between users of the same type of wallet with small fees (or none?) because the money isn't technically being moved? My concern is that paying for a taxi is something that happens very fast, and waiting for the first confirmation for up to 10 minutes is something that can disrupt taxi driving experience. Not to mention that sometimes the fees are just too high for such small amounts as taxi fares. From the article, it doesn't seem like they figured out the details themselves yet.

1. Banknotes are lightweight, so i dont see a reason for it to be an issue
2. Criminal acts? On what form? How they do get involved with that?

That's good news but I'm sure this is an off-chain transaction since they use their own app.
You cant use your own noncustodial wallet for this because normally a Bitcoin will take up to 1 hour so maybe it is hard to wait at least 3 confirmations before they consider the transaction is safe.

But there's no clear statement of adoption in the article, it could be this becomes a rumor after all.
Or soon they accept the whole crypto but first, there will be a heavy KYC verification.

The adoption of bitcoin has been buzzing, this is not the beginning abd won't be the end likewise. All over the world bitcoin payments has been use for different purpose, for football advertisement, investment purpose as a mean of payment, since it solves most issues the banking system hasn't. I'm not wowed at this because there lore firms that'll embrace bitcoin, i think its a good one this will make transportation quite easy, fiat can be used but the rate at which bitcoin transaction are buzzing. Gradually, I'm predicting for the mode payments in schools, bitcoin can't be stopped, im very optimistic about this....Yes there is life outside bitcoin, but they have co'e to stay and remain for a much longer periods.

Not a bad idea, if all taxis in america accepted bitcoin, it would be better for passengers and taxi drivers too.
There is a good reason in the Bitcoin payment system for taxis.
1. Passengers do not need to carry large amounts of banknotes.
2. Taxi drivers are more concerned with criminal acts on the road.

In my opinion both driver and passenger are mutually beneficial and safe.
I somewhat disagree with these views.

1. Banknotes are lightweight, so i dont see a reason for it to be an issue
2. Criminal acts? On what form? How they do get involved with that?

As for possession of bitcoin then people would mostly make use of their fiat rather than on spending their
precious coins since we do know its investment potential capabilities which if they do still ever to make use
that common fiat and save up their coins then they would mostly do it even myself but its not really a bad
recognition after all.

Uber CEO is adept of the political correctness imposed by the mainstream media and specialists. He said bitcoin will be only accepted when it becomes environmentally friendly. He endorses the narrative of bitcoin mining process demanding too much natural resources in order to produce enough energy to keep the farms running. I fear at some point Uber ends adopting some cryptocurrency else using this excuse, and let bitcoin behind as it wasn't important.

Since bitcoin is well known a payment method for many people and many platforms that's not unexpecting to see some government-related payments such as tax payments can be done using bitcoin however that's not still confirmed and I don't know many people in the USA who paid their tax with bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies but if Uber implement the payment option to pay with bitcoin I expect to see the same story for the other platforms very soon.

Wait, when did Uber decide to implement such a function?

It didn't. Not yet at least. According to the article linked in the first post, Uber is just considering accepting Bitcoin payments for its services.  According to Uber's CEO, there are still some obstacles: "The trading mechanism is expensive, it’s not great for the environment. When the trading system becomes cheaper, more environmentally friendly, I think you’ll see us looking a little more at cryptocurrencies."

Unsurprisingly, no one can really know if Uber will become the very first mainstream ride-sharing company to accept cryptocurrency.

According to the article, they will accept at some point. The CEO didnt say any date. It could be 2025 or 30. Before this will take place, they will wait for regulation too.

There is no assurance when but hope when they do, its just just BTC alone but also alt. Its likely the first that will make BTC be used daily in real street transactions.
Too much uncertainty in this news. By the time this becomes relevant, a lot can change. Also, one should not forget about the influence of the regulator. At any time, the regulator can ban this initiative and this news will become unrealizable. I wouldn't take this kind of news seriously. That's when Uber starts accepting payment in Bitcoin, that's when we'll talk.

You crazy? I’m more happy to read that Apple is going to do the same. Gosh, finally I can use my coins to trade with real world assets and I’m happy for the same. If this really happens then big giant is surely thinking of better future in the crypto currencies otherwise Apple is the last company who would do anything stupid that does not fits to their needs OR brand as such.

I’m obviously happy with the Uber too as they are also one of the taxi leaders in the globe. I see they also involved in Uber eats which delivers food in India thus might just open its doors for the same. Things getting real crazy and better in this world. Lovely.

Uber being the largest taxi service provider adding cryptocurrency payment access will make way for real time usage of cryptocurrencies. The timeline for the addition of payment feature isn't disclosed. As per my understanding the company is just into business and don't have plans of investing/buying bitcoin as other corporate networks.

The CEO said, initial plans were for the acceptance of bitcoin and dogecoin. On the other side he also said when the mining becomes more eco friendly this could lower the transaction costs. I'm not sure on what basis he have said this. When the implementation is done, this will make some positive movement on the market.

Great news from Uber. In almost every country there are Uber services and the setup of the App where everything is paid online is awesome. Accepting bitcoins and maybe even other crypto coins in future is a big step. Running a small mobile wallet with a hundred USD on it is perfect to use it for taxi fares in the future. When on vacation I tend to use Uber regularly, at home I prefer public transportation, because its cheaper. One problem for me would be the low bitcoin price right now. With looming war over Ukraine it seems that Bitcoin is going to stay low for the near future. And at current levels I don't want to sell or use my bitcoins for purchases. In case the price would go above 50,000 USD again I would consider spending some coins.
