What PayPal could do is have you put your BTC address or master public key in there that you generated offline, then when you complete checkout, give you an unsigned TX with your inputs which you would then sign on your own computer (or with some signing device) and give that back to PayPal. PayPal would never control your private keys, only know your addresses to facilitate you getting paid with only your registered email address(es).

Good one! Not sure how they will implement.

Pretty sure although easier, they will not be inclined to outsource like other merchants have done so. Or let's just say I'd be very surprised if they go way of Coinbase.

As other exchanges have done, I think they will allow you to pre-set an external address for withdrawals which can be changed but only by jumping through strict security hoops. That way, at least it's not their liability.

Power Sellers on Ebay constitute PP's main revenue source, for each transaction a unique funding address will have to be generated. In this case PP will have to act similar to a Localbitcoins Escrow and mediate when there is a Dispute Resolution.

They do certain have the resources to create a sister company akin to Coinbase model for their BTC processing. If so they would still need to establish a partnership with a major exchange with provable liquidity.

They could just ask users to insert their bitcoin addresses in their accounts. The only thing they will have to worry about is their charge back feature. Seems they will have big issues if a merchant adoption is done. I doubt they intermix payments with cards and bitcoins.

Agreed. Buyers wishing to pay in BTC, will have to source their BTC externally - PP will not want the liability from CC Charge Backs.

Though they do have enough resources to set up their own multi-server/cold storage system whereby >95% of clients deposited BTC is kept offline. XAPO's Vault or something similar could be used. I wonder in PP's strategic planning for this whether they have contacted the likes of XAPO?

Thanks for the false info.
Always an awesome read...  Lips sealed

yeah, I didn't fully read Techcrunch article before posting, sorry.

Not even that sure the significance if/when they do fully integrate. There's probably some smart people employed at PP. Would it be against the law for them to acquire chunks of BTC  prior to announcement in a "hedge" for expected price increase?

Paypal doing bitcoin is getting to be as much a joke as "LTC on gox!" or "China bans BTC!"

Sorry, but why do you PP integrating BTC is a joke?

All they need to do is record user IP to apply specific Value Added Tax (if any). It's up to the Merchants whether they want to accept BTC payments for goods/services.

Much recent topical stuff regarding Western Union (copyright lol). They are still profitable and somewhat constrained by their affiliate banking partners in respective operational countries (works out good for them at present).

In my opinion, at some point it would be in their interest to also integrate BTC as they are well placed to champion (in case of worldwide remittance).

Remember BTC is still tiny, it's total market cap is only < $6Bil!

Not so good news for Bitpay?

Paypal does certainly have a much wider established client base.

Not necessarily. If/when Paypal does accept bitcoin they will likely still charge high fees.

I'm personally still on the lookout for a merchant accepting BTC via PayPal...not sure when that'll happen.

“What can’t kill Bitcoin, makes it (us) stronger.”
I read about the decision a while back but still haven't seen any user side integration to date.

Heard this many many times "PayPal is going to adopt bitcoin soon". Reporter is simply using The PayPal news (old) to lead into his theory on why bitcoin adoption is difficult and slow.

Yeah appears so, my bad  Cheesy
