If it is true that Paypal offers crypto trading services, it will certainly be mutually beneficial. The number of Paypal users
will increase dramatically, while the cryptocurrency price will go up even more. As we know Paypal is a platform that already
has many users from all over the world. So Paypal will easily promote crypto trading service, if these rumors come true it
will be very profitable for Paypal. Because it can make Paypal more and more used, and also increasingly popular.

After months, it seems that the rumor is still unfounded, so it's probably not true. The articles just died out and there were no updates regarding the initial information. PayPal is a very successful service, and it's understandable why they would not want to get involved with cryptos. If they're already doing fine, why go through difficult bureaucratic procedures, risk losing money and all for adding cryptos, the foes of fiat? There would be sense to adopt cryptos if their rivals close up on them (I'm talking about Jack Dorsey's Square), but for now they have 4 times as much revenue and around 8 times as much income as Square, so why bother with changes.

By considering the demand of present and future, Paypal may have taken decision to support crypto trade into a new brokerage but still the result not came to light.
This must have been the mind changer for the paypal of having cryptocurrency, I'm not really surprised by this actually since I already saw them having a partnership with the coinbase for withdrawal an deposit I kinda thought of this before so people can just withdraw their bitcoins from coinbase to paypal, and paypal is not far to do that, guess what they are coming for it now. "But still the result not came to light" maybe because there is nothing special to it, we got a lot of platform not just only paypal. What's special in an online wallet to support cryptocurrencies? actually none.

If Paypal will introduce such crypto service, it will be a great news for the crypto lovers. But they need to change their terms of service as it is forbidden in their Terms of Service.
Yeah especially with our traders in coinbase coz they can literally withdraw and deposit using paypal in bitcoins. This might attract some new crypto users who find curiosity with bitcoin, this will be fascinating given that digital payment processors these days is getting bigger.

Right, if Paypal tends to offer crypto trade, they can attract more users basically who likes to connect with crypto with their assets. This news is still vogue. With the time passage, every thing will looks clear but as a crypto lover, i am basically enthusiastic about if they offer crypto trade, i will personally use it.

This is really exciting and I cannot blame PayPal if they will decide also to start their journey also in crypto industry as the money that is involve in crypto
is very huge.

A wise investor can easily shift or add their business if they can see a potential profit to it therefore I am really excited if they will really decide to join
the crypto world as their action can surely help the crypto industry to grow more even if they have no official announcement yet.

And if the rumor becomes true it will take time to create their own crypto. As they are paypal, I am sure they will come with something different then others.

If this rumor is put into its place, although this rumor already was already discarded, many people will probably use paypal more because right now, they have a lot of customers already.

Paypal is a good wallet and it has a strong security so this platform having a cryptocurrency trading will make them become more popular.

This new features that they will offer will help them grow their company as they are very useful in making online payments. But as I have read before, this rumor didn't fulfilled by Paypal and people are still rooting for this platform to achieve this offer so that they will not need to transfer their money from Paypal to another crypto trading platforms.

Everything which smells money will attract more people to comes Grin

Paypal wants to do that because they see the potential of crypto trading, so they decide to offer crypto trading. But I don't know if that news is real and will happen in a short time or not, but I think I don't want to use Paypal because before we can use their services, we need to send the document for verification. Paypal has a strict rule for its members, and I think they will be suspicious if we use a large amount of money to trade. So I guess I will stay on the current exchanges which I usually trade.

Really? I send Paypal for a small fixed fee and 2.9% fee on the charge,,, why are you paying 15%? You should try putting a bank account or card to your account first then send someone. Maybe the mode of refill is causing you 15%. But yes, if they add crypto, it will be likely only to fill or withdraw from PP.

Yeah, it was sent from a non-verified account (family member) to a verified one (mine). Because F&F was discontinued ages ago, there's nothing else I could choose besides sending the funds as a service.

It was actually just a USD balance transfer, no refill involved.

I would believe it when Paypal shows an ad on TV to promote their new trading service. Until then, observing the news and hodling is the name of the game
as long as I haven't received an official announcement from paypal via email that they will Manage Crypto Assets it will only be propaganda news in the crypto space. now we are watching what more drama will happen to this payment service provider in the future.

i think this would be a great idea when big company like paypal join the crpyto industry it can attract more people to know hows crypto work.

and maybe the paypal just don't wanna left behind
It really is a big thing and I do not see a bad thing about this, this just gives users and aspiring traders more ways to trade. Although it is still a rumore, I think it is worth holding on to. The only thing that I have a problem with Paypal is the way they need a valid ID, they have a small choices of ID and most of the ID needed is very bureaucratic in my country so I can't do much but the good thing is that there are small local online wallets that I can use.

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if their fees structure are similar to those cutthroat competitors like BitPay Grin

Like some of the major banks now Paypal also wants to CASH profits from the emerging cryptocurrency sector. I am surprised how fast these financial institutions are now taking a U-turn. They all were against cryptocurrency and in particular Bitcoin.

Whatever they do I am neither interested nor plan to use their service. They can again take a U-turn when they feel they have earned enough.

I wouldn't be surprised if these monetary Institutions announce one day they've created Cryptocurrency of their own considering the stock is plummeting, and the recession it should be safe to invest in digital currencies such as Bitcoin.
Even goldman sachs were pessimistic about Bitcoin's value and growth, ended adopting it because they now see the potential of it.

Knowing that the CTO of Paypal is pushing their "belief" in the blockchain and it seems that they have a good relationship with Coinbase. It's only a matter of time that it comes to fruition. Venmo would probably the company that would roll out the crypto-related things, and this June 2020 article discusses it all as well.

“We are a strong believer in the potential of blockchain. The digitization of currency is only a matter of when not if,” Shivananda said.

Let's see how it will turn out. There's no hiding it that Paypal is interested in the blockchain technology.

It is very strange to see the company I hate "teaming up" with my favourite thing in the world. I still can't decide if this is good or not. I guess maybe it might may bitcoin seem more "legit" in the eye of the general public.
Not that taking the fees PayPal asks for is legit...

I think this might just be a rumour though. Reading the comments I am not alone.

If there partnership with Paxos is official I think that Paypal has a good chance that they will be offering crypto trading because there is really no other reason why Paypal will partner up with a crypto related firm without them being at least interested in a crypto related business. I know that Paypal before is against any kind of crypto industry related business as they are also against crypto related transactions being used in their service but with them partnering up with crypto related business I think this is a good sign to say that Paypal have changed their minds with crypto.
If they are seriously looking for them as a backer then it would make complete sense to go with them.
Solely because they are regulated in the toughest regulation area in the planet being New York where they don't allow exchanges to even operate there until they payout for the license to do so which is in the millions.
And paxos has been approved to provide anything to do with blockchain and operating with bitcoin in the state of New york by obtaining this license.
So they are smart in doing it this way if they are looking to really get into accepting a type of crypto with their platform to their already 277 million as of April 2019 (looks like 300 million as of now) existing customer base.

This news is too old now. I don't think paypal gonna introduce crypto too soon on their platform. As @LeGaulois^  said they just rumored the news to pump their stock market price.
Buy the rumor. Wink
I don't think spreading rumors that it will soon likely offer its users the opportunity to directly buy crypto will pump their value.
Quote
And if the rumor becomes true it will take time to create their own crypto. As they are paypal, I am sure they will come with something different then others.
Your gathered rumor may be false. I haven't heard of a single rumor that Paypal is going to create their own crypto. That may not be a rumor at all. That may simply be a plain gossip.
The rumor is that Paypal may offer direct crypto sales on their platform. That's it.
As they say:
Buy the rumor, sell the news! Grin

As the topic says the payment giant company was reportedly plans to introduce crypto trading through a new brokerage service offered by United States stablecoin operator Paxos.
Source

Theres also a rumor that the payment giant company wrote a letter to EU commission just for the development of their own crypto but when they were confronted about it they said "PayPal does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

Learn that news like this dont just happen if something like it is not already happening.
Your thoughts

Yeah, we have been hearing such rumors for quite a long time. But, why are people excited about this? I mean what makes them so unique? All they will be doing is allow users to trade crypto and make some extra money (as a form of fee) from their users. I wouldn't be surprised to see people whining about how their account got blocked or something happened to their funds and taking ages to resolve the case.
People are excited because it will give crypto more awareness and also build common people trust in crypto because some people still believe crypto is mainly use by scammers.

Paypal loves to freeze funds, even if it is from legit sources. Doesn't coinbase provide the exact service paypal is about to provide? Others saying they can link their bank account and withdraw directly, they can also do that with coinsbase. As far as I remember, coinbase does support ACH transactions.
Yes, they does but paypal is the giant and the most respected payment company in the world. Mind you, coinbase still restricted some cohntries.

As the topic says the payment giant company was reportedly plans to introduce crypto trading through a new brokerage service offered by United States stablecoin operator Paxos.
Good luck with that but most of the customers who had their funds confiscated in the past will not dare to trade in their platform and there are other good trading platforms that are doing a good job. It is not a big surprise that these companies are planning their trading platforms because the amount of profits companies like binance and other trading platforms make are really huge.

The profit level of exchange site like Binance in 3 years after the success of it ICO in 2017 will the reason a long existing payment comapny like Paypal choose to join cryptocurrency but dont you think we need to be happy that bitcoin prove all them wrong despite the FUD they spread then.

Theres also a rumor that the payment giant company wrote a letter to EU commission just for the development of their own crypto but when they were confronted about it they said "PayPal does not comment on rumors or speculation.”
I wish the EU commission will shut down these stupid tokens, we just need BTCitcoin and i do not want to see every company coming up with their token.
Crypto is a broad investment and every new project are welcome but only the strong and potential will survive.
Nevertheless, if Satoshi doesn't want the existence of altcoins to happen he won't have publicly post BTC code/protocol for new project owners to imitate.

There are some rumors regarding Paypal being involved to crypto and now they are being involved again in another news and that is crypto trading.

There is no official statement coming from the Paypal owners
sometimes word gets out ahead of time which maybe the reason why they choose not to make any comment about but ask yourself why did they decide not to say anything when they can publicy announce their stance.

This is like the funniest news I’m reading today lol. So they are all now getting interested in cryptocurrency?? Huh PayPal is not the only company that I have been seeing as of recent that is employing crypto engineers, I have seen a lot of them that are listing jobs in the same category.

We shouldn’t speculate on what we don’t know, it’s better to wait for them to make the proper announcement. No matter how much people to try to pressure them into revealing their plans, they are not going to do it, until they are done with what they are doing and ready to unveil it. And that’s how a company should work, things should be kept a secret until it’s ready to be released.

thats thier concept they love surprises and that makes people more excited but there are companies that slowly released partial updates on what they are gonna be releasing but the effect is the same because people are still excited  .

this isnt funny but this is a good news   .  you may find it funny because paypal is already a payment method and you know that paypal is too ambitious before  .  i have a read a thread before simillar to this , i think this isnt a rumor but its true    .
Yes, that's how they do their business, by making new updates that will make people excited by having new features that will be useful for everyone.

This is good news, but it is better to wait for their official announcement. Because as far as I remember, Paypal prohibits activities involving cryptocurrency. This might be a change of their heart or they have realization regarding this matter.

I just read it from cointele also which Paypal was hiring blockchain engineer which I guess was enough reason for this rumor to spread. They pointed to this job listing https://jobsearch.paypal-corp.com/en-US/job/technical-lead-crypto-engineer/J3W31J65K3R80YP49FL

Developing crypto trading must have been the case for them to employ someone with blockchain skills.  The reason for the denial, its their choice.

I hope it's not merely rumors it would be a great convenience if they'd accept Bitcoin as one of the options in paypal services.
Two sources indicates we might see Cryptocurrencies be accepted in a popular platform this would be a bullish sign that some businesses loss confidence in the monetary system.

It was introduced a month ago and more. And until now, there is no progress or clarification from PayPal what is going on here. Or it is just a rumor what people said? probably, Additionally, they have not clearly stated about the plan and they only say about a few things of the crypto exchange. But of course, this is news that can be wrapped into big news to rise up the media. many people will be interested and focus on this news because PayPal is a big industry. So, what is next? Will really PayPal realize this plan? personally I don't too care with this because it may be like other projects that only for hype for a while.

People are just excited because PayPal would be bringing crypto to  their ~ 300 million users. As far as adoption go, That would be massive.  In terms of service offerings, Coinbase offers the same if not more. I have no doubt that Paypal is only interested in making crypto trading available due to the potential profit to be made.  They don't want to miss out on the crypto pie.

As the topic says the payment giant company was reportedly plans to introduce crypto trading through a new brokerage service offered by United States stablecoin operator Paxos.

Theres also a rumor that the payment giant company wrote a letter to EU commission just for the development of their own crypto but when they were confronted about it they said "PayPal does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

Learn that news like this dont just happen if something like it is not already happening.

I wouldn't be surprised to see people whining about how their account got blocked or something happened to their funds and taking ages to resolve the case. Paypal loves to freeze funds, even if it is from legit sources. Doesn't coinbase provide the exact service paypal is about to provide? Others saying they can link their bank account and withdraw directly, they can also do that with coinsbase. As far as I remember, coinbase does support ACH transactions.

In making such decision then theres no doubt that they already had changed up their minds yet they wont really make up these steps if they arent making some reconsideration on such possibility.

Is this already confirmed or still a rumor? If it is a rumor then im not really hoping that much that this one would be integrated on fast phase. If they do able to do so then

that would really be a very convenient thing for some people including me.

I think what got things going was the recent announcement of PayPal hiring a blockchain expert, and it's good their coming around to terms with the idea, it's either adapt or get left behind and crypto IS the way to go, hopefully they don't riddle it with the same huge fees system for international trades that currently plague bitcoin.

Thank God, because I was running out of ways to trade my crypto. I'd much rather link my bank account and/or debit card to Paypal, and use their rates to change my local currency into USD, and then use that to buy Bitcoin at their rates. And then repeat the same process in reverse to sell my Bitcoin.

Finally, the PayPal I've always been waiting for. Just as soon as they fix the way they keep blocking my access because of clearly suspicious login activity.

This will be interesting to watch. We have seen similar news in the past but it never came to fruition. Surely, this time it is different and if Paypal enters this it may be bad news for other exchanges who have been in the business for a long time. it would speed up the process for many individuals but there are risks that should also be looked into.

Good luck with that but most of the customers who had their funds confiscated in the past will not dare to trade in their platform and there are other good trading platforms that are doing a good job. It is not a big surprise that these companies are planning their trading platforms because the amount of profits companies like binance and other trading platforms make are really huge.

I wish the EU commission will shut down these stupid tokens, we just need BTCitcoin and i do not want to see every company coming up with their token.

Whether its a rumor or its real news, what everyone should know is that crypto and its supporting technologies revolution have put many businesses in a situation where they need to pivot if they want to continue in business.

For Paypal, its a strategic move for the company because they are the pioneer of the fintech industry in the US. if they are coming into the crypto industry, i will be happy because of their influence in financial matters.

That will be a big adjustment to the users of Paypal since they will be adding lots of features that will show different kind of Cryptocurrencies. PayPal should create a distinction between users who understands Cryptocurrency and users who just uses normal currency because mixing the two can create lots of miscommunications when creating transactions.

But who can forgot about this supposedly email to their PayPal users back in 2018?

~~ image removed ~~

https://news.bitcoin.com/paypal-users-receive-cryptocurrency-warning-email/

They can deny it right now, but there was a time that Paypal is really anti crypto or against bitcoin.

You can understand that PayPal would be against any other competitive payment alternative... they are making their profits from over charging their customers and any competition will be frowned on.  Roll Eyes

I think they are only going through the cycle of disruption now, where they accept that it cannot be stopped and that they must get in on the action to supplement their possible losses in the future.

They can develop their own "Blockchain" technology, but Biitcoin still has the biggest network of merchants and users out there, so it will be better just to include it in their offerings and cash in on the action.  Wink

In my opinion, Paypal might be interested in crypto but I don't think they will do it long term. They have sent warnings in the past, and voiced out their opposition to cryptocurrency. Also, the news that has been with us for some time now has been what it is, just news. You can be excited for this but you can also treat this news as hearsay and not to count on it.
It's wouldn't make sense that they will go full crypto short term. If they want to jump then they should do it 100% otherwise it will be costly. Yes, this news is not new anymore, and for the time being, pure speculation on their side. So I will still be cautious and not get excited as Paypal might cooking some thing inside that we crypto enthusiast doesn't like the taste.

Give them time.

We will see them for a longer operation if many of their users start to buy crypto through them. They have a lot of users so they will act as a guarantor for their users.

Unless confirmed by PayPal that they will integrate their service to crypto, it's celebration time.

Yep, still a rumour. Just found that article about it:_ https://www.cryptoninjas.net/2020/07/27/paypal-makes-a-big-move-into-crypto-trading/

Maybe the only news that seems confirmed is the collab with Paxos, but that´s pretty much it

Unfortunately this is old news that at this point is nothing more than conjecture. Now obviously if PayPal does truly add anything bitcoin or cryptocurrency related to it's platform that is going to be massive news. It does look like they are seriously considering it.  That in and of itself is actually pretty big news.  Basically admitting they knows crypto is here to stay.

Paypal would create a cryptocurrency called paypalcoin, with the one and only feature:the buyer/sender will have the right to refund every transaction to the receiver in a 180 day time frame. Grin
Jokes aside, cryptocurrency trading is strictly forbidden in Paypal's Terms of Service.I highly doubt that they will make such a drastic change in their rules only for the sake of gathering a few thousands new customers.
No crypto user with a brain will join Paypal, just because that company is accepting crypto payments.

usually things reported by cointelegraph or similar sites don't have any value to be discussed, 90% of the times they are pure clickbait.

in any case it is not surprising to see everyone eventually getting on board of the bitcoin bandwagon. it was predicted long before. specially companies like PayPal that want to make money and see the volume that goes into trading every day (hence the commissions they could earn). usually with them it is about creating another centralized shitcoin that they can fully control while making money from the hype. similar to what Facebook has been trying to do.

That's it.

Old news from last month, there are several topics in the forum. And we're still at the same point: => a rumor
Between a rumor and the reality, a decade can happen, specially in the crypto industry.
While a lot of people seem excited, it wil be funny if finally it's just an IOU BTC, not much different than with the banks..

It's like when companies make an annoncement only to pump the price in the stock market. I suspect they do the same with a "potential" vaccine for the coronavirus Cheesy

I just read it from cointele also which Paypal was hiring blockchain engineer which I guess was enough reason for this rumor to spread. They pointed to this job listing https://jobsearch.paypal-corp.com/en-US/job/technical-lead-crypto-engineer/J3W31J65K3R80YP49FL

Developing crypto trading must have been the case for them to employ someone with blockchain skills.  The reason for the denial, its their choice.
