For AMD there is a limit of 8 GPU. I could run 8 GPU (4X7990) on a mother board with 6 PCIE slots, but on 10 GPU (5X7990).

Interesting, I'm curious as well. However, I remember reading somewhere about a similar (more expensive) hardware when someone mentioning the stock BIOS might be hard limited only handle 6 or 8 PCI slots so it might need some careful BIOS mod to work. And then there would probably be OS issues.

Just stumbled on these: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Plaque-Riser-replicateur-PCI-Express-1x-vers-4-ports-PCIE-1x-/301528213198

If there is no performance impact, you could add two of these on an H81 BTC motherboard and drive 12 GPUs from a single system.
The G1840 CPU has 16 PCI-E lanes, so it should work in theory.  Using powered risers, there should be no power issue.

Has anyone tried these before?
