Yes, it works - and it should work with PCI-E 1.0 slots as well, but I'm not sure if I have anything quite THAT old still around.

Yes, Worked.
PCIe 2.0 came out in 2007. It can handle 1–5 billion transfers per second. Each lane can send 500 MB/second. PCIe 3.0 came out in 2010. It can handle up to 8 billion transfers per second. The slot is the same, and the newer specification supports faster transfers, but is compatible with previous speeds.PCI express 2.0 has a peak speed of 8 GB/s. and PCIe 3.0 has a peak speed of 16 GB/s. No it does not influence the memory tech you have (DDR2/GDDR5/whatever)..
Speed is the main difference.

It should work because PCI 3 GPUs are backwards compatible with PCI 2 slots. But I might be wrong.

On motherboard is 2.0.
