Have you ever wondered about the extent to which peer groups affect academic performance? Make no mistake; a peer group can impact your child's academic performance significantly. However, to say that one's peer group is the most influential factor in academic performance isn't true either because there are so many other factors that influence educational performance.
Peer group greatly affects a child's academic performance but it is not the only reason. Cultural background, financial status, family background, study habits, interaction in the web, how the child was raised need also to be considered. However, the child's success or failure during studies cannot actually predict what's going to happen in the future. There are lot of successful people nowadays that failed but now, they sleep under bed of money.

Peer effects are important determinants of student outcomes. A typical student learns from discussions with classmates and can be affected by their personalities and attitudes toward learning. Students can also be motivated simply by working next to each other.

Indeed, a peer group can largely influence a student. For example, if Your peers are very consistent in studying then, You are most likely to also study. If however Your peers are always procrastinating then You could also be affected and procrastinate too. The thing is, having peer groups means 'to socialize', and a student can be affected by anyone on the peer group because He/She had socialized with them.

I guess it depends on what kind of peer group you have. good peer group can be a good influence, make good impact and can be a source of inspiration to ones student in their academic performance. It become an avenue to which they can release their emotional heartache and personal problem trusted peer helps them to reach their goal in life and make them successful.

Yes in educational performance it is better if their is a peer group , so they can help each other and have a brainstorming . also it can help to others that may not good enough on doing some projects in school . peer to peer group is a nice suggestion.

It's true that peers ang among the many varying factors that directly affect a person's behavior. But, a person's behavior is their choice no matter the influence maybe. Not unless a gun is put in your head or their life is threatened. Now in a school setting, I've seen a student that excels but their peers aren't great and a student that didn't do well but has exceptional peers. My take away is no matter the factor, a student or a person will excel at something so long as they want to do it or there is passion in the activity

not most of the time. because when you said educational performance it talks about different scenario, it can be projects, educational trips, and mostly performing in class, it depends on what kind of performance can fit to a subject being taught, while in terms of influencing a peer group it can affect sometimes, like peer pressuring, and having a group performance. so not all the time it influences a student performance.

Peer group have playing a big role in educational performance, if this peer group focus only on the helping each other to cope with the subject that they are really struggling at. But if that peer group is just to having fun without improving then its useless.

Peer groups really affects the performance of a student at school. There was good and bad. If the peers of a student is a good influence like they invite you to go in the library and study instead of going to computer shops. But if they invite you to cut classes just to hangout that's the bad part of having peers.

I think it's more influential for the more outgoing people. The wallflowers would probably go through high-school without peers affecting them that much.

I think this is quite accurate. Your peers are the people you spend most time with during school hours and mostly, your decisions are affected by what the people around you thinks about. Your peers have a huge influence on pretty much whatever you do in school. It's even more influential than your teachers who taught you lessons. So if you happen to be fortunate enough to have a good set of friends, your highschool life perhaps is a very fruitful one

This is why parents should be able to teach their children to make friends wisely from a very young age. We all know what happens when people get into the wrong company of friends.
