I believe it will work.

Sunny King: When it's ready, we plan to support both peercoin and primecoin sidechains.
Sunny King: My current undertaking on sidechains, might even be tried on primecoin first, due to it's different properties. Although this shouldn't be taken as a promise.

So I am not sure it will be first implemented in peercoin or in primecoin.

Maybe it has just survived because of the pumps of sunnyking himself and btc-e support, in 2013 it was pumped alot from nowhere without any of adoption or something.

Well its one of the best coins from 2013 because was the only able to retain almost its original value, not lie xpm (primecoin) which originally was more expensive and now is 30% of peercoin value.
