Do be carefull, i think the wallet format changed when they went to 2.x.
Before you update, make sure you copy/save the wallet files just in case you want to revert back, or maybe it would be wise to install electrum on a clean (electrum-free) pc (or on your android phone), restore from the seed and see if everything went ok (can you see all inputs, addresses, can you create outputs,... ) before you started tinkering on your "default" pc...

I cannot seem to find the tx either, i'm not convinced upgrading electrum will solve the problem, but if you take proper care i don't think it'll do any harm either (and it might indeed fix your problem, but i'm not 100% convinced it will tough).

ADDED WHILE EDITING THE POST:
Since we cannot seem to find the transaction, can you do the following thing:
  • open electrum
  • right click on the pending transaction
  • chose details
  • chose save
  • open the saved file, copy the "hex"-line
  • paste it here, or re-broadcast it here: https://blockchain.info/pushtx (but only if you WISH to rebroadcast it!!!)

rebroadcasting might not be the best idear, it seems the transaction isn't in the mempool of the nodes, it might not be a bad idear to leave it that way. In that case you might be able to re-use the inputs to create a new output (in case there were problems with, for example, the fees).

We can actually use these details to analyse the transaction before broadcasting it, you can even do this yourself here: https://blockchain.info/decode-tx.
Look at the size, calculate the inputs - the outputs to see the fee you added, divide the fee by the size, and see here https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ if it was high enough...

hee-ho.
can't find it anywhere. make sure that you're connected to a server (indicated by the green circle on the bottom right.).

I would suggest updating electrum to latest version. just be double sure that you have the seed and private keys.

tx id: a14eae6f35f31e7a965fb36291d0c615f27dcec526177189711f9cc140c71468

It currently has zero confirmations, and is in a pending status. Can't find it on blockchain. I read that it might be something to do with the signing? maybe that pre 2.X electrum is missing some sort of signature that is required on transactions now? my main concern is that i can't get to the bitcoin now the transaction is pending. if i were to update electrum, would the bitcoin be back in my wallet?

using a pre 2.X version of Electrum, i have made a transaction from my wallet. However, it seems to be stuck in limbo. I just get a "pending" status on the transaction history and it's been over 12 hours. What are my options? Thanks in advance

Can you show us the tx id? It's kind of hard to guess what the problem is Wink
That being said: it's probably not enough satoshi's/byte fee, but we cannot be sure without seeing the tx id.
