I wasn't using the site for a while but today I remebered that I have 120k satoshis there and that it's a nice site to play overall so I decided to pay it a visit. But unfortunately I keep getting this message when trying to access the site through Tor:

Quote
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion.

What does it mean? Is the site down temporarily or is it not functioning anymore?

you have to install TOR browser to be able to access the site, the link is https://www.torproject.org/download/download
you can also try and add  .to  at the end of any .onion link and get connected
by the way,the site is  very cool,I played there and can confirm it is legit and fun to play at:simple, but does exactly what it says on the tin-gamble money and have fun
p.s. looks like the link https://penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion.to is not working, cannot have tor installed  to try
if someone here could test if the site is still online, please don't hesitate and post here  Tongue

I already played on this site using the TOR browser many times, but last time I played was more than two months ago. I agree that the site is very cool, but unfortunately I can't access the site two days in a row.

thats sad, probably the owner has either taken it down, because he has no resources to promote it,or has some technical difficulties
either way,survival of the fittest,right?

Yeah, that's sad indeed. Hopefully the owner will show up here soon and we'll know what's happening to our favorite site.  Smiley He was last active on the forum on June 04, 2017.

Never tried this site before but as per OP you need to use TOR browser to access this site. Dont you know about it or you forget it? You have some balance means that you have played this site before and what browser did you use in the past?

Having 0.00119950 btc on my balance I decided if I make it to 0.002 I will try to withdraw 0.001 to check whether it works mainly.
But although I've had couple of wins I haven't manged to make my balance 0.002. So, next time, maybe. Smiley

Here's my biggest luck today:

It was a bit of a nice surprise because I thought that maybe the site has stopped operating already.
No they are operating and live always without any problem.

IMO it’s a great site. I’m wondering how many people are using it?
Yes its great site and if you use TOR browser to play there you will get better experience. Site is good for gamblers who like to remain completely anonymous.

I have no reasons to hide myself so at first I was accessing the site with GoogleChrome using this address https://penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion.to/. But then I downloaded the TOR browser just for fun I now play on the site using TOR.

@piloder, It looks like you are using the site too. So what's your statistics there?

Luck wasn’t on my side at first and I lost 30% of my balance but eventually I rolled what I wanted.  Smiley

veleten,

Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the confusion on the withdrawal amount, did you see at the bottom of the withdrawal screen the message that says:

Based on your current balance, the maximum you can withdraw is XX.XXXXXXXX

(where XX.XXXXXXXX is your balance minus the 0.0002 withdrawal fee).

If you didn't notice that, maybe I should put it in different color to make it stand out more.

-PenguinDice

I did notice it,although I don't like to be doing math on my balance to be able to withdraw
my point was:let users withdraw the whole amount on their balances and substract the fee automatically
instead of : get a calculator, substract 0.0002 fee from your balance, enter the resulting sum in to the field, withdraw
it is nothing big,but IMHO would be easier for users to simply copy paste or enter total balance and press withdraw button

great experience with this site!
the ease to start and a simple interface is what attarcts me the most, today I continued betting
at penguindice and was able to get 35:1 and several 11:1 ods wins

in total I went up 30k satoshi on the bonus provided and decided to test how withdrawals worked:
everything went smooth, although there was some confusion with the tx fee- when I tried to withdraw the whole sum I had on my balance at that moment 76k+ satoshi
it gave me a low balance error,so I had to substract manually the 20.000 satoshi tx fee and enter the resulting sum into the field
IMHO it would have been less confusing if you substracted the fee automatically

to sum it up:great site, easy to start, everything is working just like it says on the tin Smiley  -
fast and anonymous, provably fair dice site for TOR users and regular gamblers alike
will be coming back foir sure!

2legit2,

That's true. You can use a VPN and keep yourself anonymous when you gamble online. The unique thing about PenguinDice is that it's one of the few gambling web sites that works in the tor browser with the security settings on High (since it doesn't use JavaScript, Flash, etc.). So it's useful for people who want to gamble while using tor.

And yeah, a 1 cent bet only wins about 20 cents, but kick that 1 cent bet up to $1 and you'll win close to $20. Smiley Not exactly enough to retire on, but maybe enough for a nice takeout dinner. Smiley

Today I was playing on PenguinDice again. And again I was lucky. I won two times on multiplier x16.830.

Guys I'm telling you this is a great feeling when you bet on 3 and the result is 3. Going to play more there.  Cheesy

well even though the multiplier is really big the winning is pretty much small it's like only 20 cents, I have never tried it before because it doesn't have too interesting design. Also the main thing is that it is anonymous but whats the point in that when you can literally just use a vpn and use any gambling website you want anonymously? Though it is just my opinion, for me it is not interesting too much.

Betwrong,

Thanks for making the suggestion of Deep Dot Web! That is a good idea. I notice they do have other gambling ads.

Just yesterday the site wrote an article about my other hidden service (PenguinMixer), so that was pretty cool.

It is quite hard to target TOR based users i mean the one who have installed tor browser or know about dark web. So a normal domain seems to be must before going to any advertising or marketing strategy. Advertising in clean web will not work for TOR based webs.

many tor IP are already blacklisted here in bitcointalk, and it's not that hard for any site to blacklist them, there are service that check the IP that you are using, and admin can without problem ban those ip

Betwrong,

Thanks for the review! I'm glad you liked the site. Please do offer any feedback you might have after playing more at a later time.

how can you deal with anonymous coins, how can you prove that he send you the money in case he want to scam? it's better to not add support for zcash monero and the other with zero proof anonimity

veleten,

Thanks for those good suggestions!

Yes, I think that announcing / advertising on darkweb sites would be a good idea. PenguinDice would probably appeal more to people who already use tor and might want to try gambling on tor, rather than to people who are already gambling on clearnet sites.

I was actually almost in an agreement with the owner of Sigaint (a darknet e-mail site) to advertise there. But then about 10 days ago the service shut down with no warning or explanation.

-PenguinDice

Also, this place I think is good for advertising your site: https://www.deepdotweb.com/

I don't know how much they charge though. The place is really popular among Tor users.

Chat is something I could add in the future. Right now the site is pretty new, and usually there are only 1 or 2 people playing at a given time. So you'd be chatting mostly with yourself. Smiley

-PenguinDice

it is always a pleasure to chat with someone awesome, haha
I think the social aspect is very important for any gambling site, but penguindice's main feature is anonymity
if you can implement the chat without JS,just plain HTML it will be a good addition, I think
you need more players, the best thing would be to advertise penguindice on bitcoin or TOR related forums
you can do it for free and it yeilds good results, too
another option is to buy PTC hits at sites like btcclicks and similar
you can get 10.000 unique visitors for under 0.01 bitcoins and create some players base

adaseb,

Yes, JavaScript vulnerabilities have been used in the past to deanonymize tor users, by sending the user's real IP address back to the attacker. Anytime you enable JavaScript, Flash, or anything like that in your tor browser you make yourself much more susceptible to attacks. My idea with PenguinDice was to build something people could use with tor set to maximum security. Of course that does come with the disadvantage that the site will not be as interactive or visually appealing as the other dice sites.

Btw I wouldn't recommend to change the design of the site like some in this thread suggested, because IMO it's perfect, especially for an onion site. I would add option to chat probably, but nothing more.

I did check out pocket dice and a few other sites like prime dice.

I've noticed that none of them work on the tor browser with the security slider set to "high". They need JavaScript, Flash, or other types of add-ons.

So whatever graphics improvements I make to my site I want to be sure they still work on the tor browser with maximum security settings on.

I read that its very difficult to make yourself totally anonymous if a site features Javascript because some script can easily fetch your actual IP address. Isn't this how Satoshi's account got hacked because his tor wasn't configured properly a few years ago.

So since many dice sites require some type of Flash or Javascript it seems like it would be very difficult to implement something like this.

@penguindice I think now its better to hire some designer and make good design like http://pocketdice.io which is pretty attractive and suits for your site. Than you can think about marketing plan and also clearnet version.

the main idea for this site is the simplistic yet very user friendly design,no gimmicks,no unneccessary bells and whistles
TOR users are more concerned about their anonymity and speed than GUI and visual effects IMHO
I agree about the marketing part and promotions, when all of the potential bugs are ironed out,you may want to create some promo campaign
maybe some wagered contest, affiliate contest or buy ads at one of the bitcoin networks
I will definitely recommend the site-it is clean, fast and easy to use

My account on penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion was credited with the signup bonus, 0.0005 btc and thus I had a chance to play there.

First of, I like the design of dice on this site, white dots on red. Those are best looking dice IMO.

Now how I played there.

I decided to bet on the most likely number (7) with the lowest payout(5:1) in case of hitting it. The bet amount was 1 unit (0.00001 btc). After 3 unsuccessful I hit it and my Balance became 0.00051950 btc (51 units).

Then I hit "Set all Bets to 0" button and pick another number, 2, with the highest payout. The bet amount was 1 unit again. With 14 bets I lost 14 units without any success and my Balance became 0.00037950 btc (37 units) and I had stopped that risky betting.

After setting all bets to 0 I chose to bet on two numbers simultaneously, 7 and 8. After 50 bets, during which winnings and losings were following each other my Balance became 0.00031942 btc (31 units) and I stopped for the time being.

Love the site. I'll be back for sure.

hinterlog,

The server uses the bitcoin core software to process bitcoin transactions. You can look in the source code to see how this works. A few examples:

// Create deposit address
$deposit_address = $bitcoin_rpc->getnewaddress();

// Send withdrawal transaction
$txid = $bitcoin_rpc->sendtoaddress($withdrawal_address,$withdrawal_amount);

I have added a button to Set all Bets to 0 next to the Roll button, per veleten's suggestion.

I've also increased the maximum bets.

Old maximums:
0.0002 to 0.001

New maximums:
0.0005 to 0.003

The minimum bet remains 0.00001.

The maximum bet is different for each number. You can bet the most on 7 and the least on 2 and 12.

That was a good suggestion I was going to make it myself. Also adding chat would be nice.

I've been playing again on this site today, via Tor browser. This time I wasn't so lucky, lost 36 units today and now i have only 63 units left.

Haha. While I was writing this I was playing on the site and BOOM!

You rolled a 6 and a 6 for a total of 12.

This comes from the first two numbers between 1 and 6 in the random roll string:

so,got my hands on Penguindice yet again Smiley
what I liked is the ability to choose several numbers for one roll: for example you can cover 2-6 range to give yourself
higher chances to win,or risk and roll on ,say, single number 12 or 8
the betting went smooth,I lost some rolls, then hit number 7 twice
my balance is 70 units at the moment, went up 20!
planning to return and continue betting when I have spare time
what would I like to see is clear all button, should be useful if you were betting on a range of numbers
and then you wantrd to change it,this way you don't have to manually enter 0 into each field
all in all if you are looking for a no hookers and blackjack dice site on TOR-Penguindice provides just that

Is it possible that you logged in with your normal browser (using onion.to), and then tried to play with your tor browser? Or that you had two browser windows open on the site, and logged out using one window, but then tried to play using the second window?

@Penguindice i have actually tried to find bug depositing my own fund but can't get success. There are lots of tools that can target database and can read some variables from database table remotely specially if it is stored under user column. I can't go deep about this but i have one friend who can find out any bug if there is in your script. Please pm me we can discuss about it.

Catmony,

Thanks for looking at the source code and for making your comments. My responses:

"After you logged into site, if you put subdomain in front of site address it will show homepage in guest mode."

I don't understand what you mean by this. What URL are you putting in exactly to see the homepage in guest mode?

"Also owner don't you think saving random string data in database will be vulnerable? I have gone though source code and found that you are actually saving next random string (unhashed) in database users table."

That is true. The database needs to store the next random roll string for each user, so it knows what roll the user will get next time. The web site presents the hash of this string to the user before he/she rolls, so that after the roll the user can verify the roll was determined in advance before the user decided what to bet on. What do you see as the problem of storing this in the database? The user has no way to see what random roll string is stored in the database for his/her next roll, so he/she doesn't know what will be rolled next. What kind of vulnerability were you thinking about with this way of doing things?

Not sure how many people will actually use this...
Actually, this casino might be really successful, in my opinion there are tons of gamblers with bitcoin who would prefer to just stay anonymous when gambling because of a variety of reasons such as hiding the amount of bitcoins they have and so on

That's strange that you got an error that you weren't logged in. But it's good that logging out and back in fixed the issue.

Is it possible that you logged in with your normal browser (using onion.to), and then tried to play with your tor browser? Or that you had two browser windows open on the site, and logged out using one window, but then tried to play using the second window?

When I visited the site for the first time I've accessed it without Tor, simply by adding .to at the end of the .onion url like user piloder suggested in this thread.

But this time I’ve downloaded the Tor Browser and accessed the site through it.
My first bet was with 1 unit on 2 (Odds 35:1, Payout x34.650)
After hitting the ROLL button I got this message “Error! You can't access the play page unless you are logged in.” although I was Logged in.
Then I tried to make bets with other odds, but the result was always the same: “Error! You can't access the play page unless you are logged in.”

Then I logged out and logged in again.
I placed a bet with 1 unit on 2 (Odds 35:1, Payout x34.650) and … it has started working!
After losing 2 times in row fortune smiled upon me and I've won 0.00034650 btc!!!
Then I tried to play with other odds, 5:1, Payout x4.950. And after losing 2 times in row I’ve won again! This time 0.00004950 btc.

Overall it’s a great site IMO. Now I have 0.00085600 btc (85 betting units) on my Balance and I'm going to play there again when I have more time.

Patatas,

If you want to see the source code, just download it from the site:

http://penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion/source.php

I don't have it in any kind of interactive source code management system like GitHub.

Not sure how many people will actually use this...
This is a good idea and people do like to have some privacy when it comes to gambling rather than giving out verification IDS for claiming their winnings as some sites ask you to verify when you are winning big and if they build a good reputation people would gamble if they could create a good platform .

I know the changes will be committed to the main branch which will be compiled on the tor but how can one only bother the code from the surface web?

ok,I finally got my hands on TOR and registered an account
my user name is: veleten (in case I qualify for the welcome bonus  Smiley    )
maybe try adding a free faucet that can be claimed when your balance is 0 and gives 100-x.xxx satoshi every x minutes
maybe give 1 unit (1000 satoshi every 1-24 hours or something like that)
other than that, yes GUI is simplistic, but fully functional
will check the gameplay and maybe withdrawals too Smiley later once I recieve the bonus

I have just made several changes to the site, as requested by users in this thread:

1. Withdrawal fee has been reduced from 0.00035 btc to 0.00020 btc.
2. Sign-up bonus has been increased from 0.00030 btc to 0.00050 btc.
3. There is now a "Bet History" link on the top navbar.
4. When you withdraw, the txid is now a link that you can click to see your transaction on blockchain.info.
5. Removed a stray character that was on the bottom on the Play page.

Players, please continue to give me suggestions on the site and I will keep making improvements.

I have accessed site by simply putting .to at the end of the .onion url. But your dice site look pretty primitive, its plain and also quite confusing one. What is your bankroll? Haven't tested deposit/withdraw but you need to work more on your design.

I have accessed the site without Tor using your advice. The site looks good to me, I like the simplicity of its design. And since it's provably fair, like people in this thread are stating, I think you can place a bet even not understanding the rules. But actualluy I think there's nothing confusing about their game. They just roll two six-sided dice and you bet on the resulting sum. The site has no faucet so I haven't tried it myself.

piloder,

Thanks for the additional feedback.

1. I'm glad the withdrawal worked. I will take your suggestion and add a link to view transactions on the blockchain.
2. Yes, I see that extra little v now. I'll fix that.

DarkStar,

Thanks for your interest in the site, and your feedback thus far. I have added 0.001 btc (more than usual, since you've already given me good suggestions) to your account so that you can make some bets on the site. Let me know what you think of it after you do some betting.

You are the second person to mention the 0.00035 withdrawal fee being too high, so I am going to lower it to 0.0002 like you suggested. I'll do that later today. I may lose a few cents on withdrawals, but if this makes people likely to use the site then maybe it's worth it.

If you could give me more suggestions on how to improve the GUI that would be great (graphics are not my forte).

3. On what page did you see the little "v" at the bottom of the screen?

Thanks again!

-PenguinDice
Its on https://penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion/play.php page on bottom left side.

Update about withdrawal from site

- Fee for withdraw is 0.00035BTC
- I have tried to withdraw from site (0.01BTC) and it went through instantly, site give me transaction id just after i click withdraw button.

- However to view it on explorer i have to enter that id manually in blockchain.info and here is transaction id of my withdrawal from site https://blockchain.info/tx/062e3cca3bc6403acc8a5b2f2f43d70789b4462b2803415348110385b5b554dc

Suggestion: It will be better to have link to explorer along with transaction id on withdraw history.

piloder,

Thank you for your testing and your comments! Responses to your comments:

1. Yes, the graphics need to be improved (another person mentioned that also). I am a coder by background and not very skilled with design, but I will try my best to improve things in that respect.

2. You can view your betting history by clicking on your balance at the top left. That is probably not obvious enough. I'll add a "betting history" link in the navbar to make this easier to find.

3. On what page did you see the little "v" at the bottom of the screen?

Thanks again!

newinbtc,

I can increase the sign-up bonus if it would bring in more users (such as yourself). What number do you suggest?

-PenguinDice

I personally think a 0.0003BTC bonus is pretty good, it's just that your transaction fees are on the high side. I'd suggest lowering your tx fees to 0.0002BTC, as unless you pay an extremely high fee (ie 160 satoshi/byte), 30k satoshis is too much and not many people would need their coins that urgently. You could also add options for lower fee withdraws, which would be good too.

Seems like a good game, though you should improve the GUI a bit as it's pretty ugly looking right now.

Could I get the free 0.0003BTC? My username is "Dark". Thanks!

These days the 160 Sats/byte is the normal fee if you want your transaction confirmed within the hour. I don't think I have ever sent any transaction recently with a fee less than 50K sats or so. 20K Sat fee is way too low and transactions might get stuck on the blockchain for hours.

Ok Here is my feedback

First it take me few minute to figure out how odds are calculated, odds are pretty attractive. I have also hit x34.650 once  Shocked

I tried to play placing on multiple numbers (like martingale) and it works smoothly.

I have started with 0.001BTC which was added by OP and made upto 0.002BTC but game was pretty addictive that i couldn't stop myself from playing more and on end my balance  0.00003626 btc  Angry

I have also verified each rolls i have made and found all of them are pre-generated so game is probably fair.

Few things need to be upgraded.
- Graphics of site (but not mandatory)
- There is no betting history, it is worth to be added.
- There is small v letter on bottom left of the site.

kryptqnick,

Maybe you're right. People might trust a tor hidden service casino less because no one really knows who in the real world is running it. So if the site ends up being a scam, there is no one to pursue to get your money back.

There was a sports betting hidden service called GhostBet that ended up shutting down one day, and keeping everyone's money.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1596747.180

So people are wise to be cautious.

It's the first time I see a promotion of a darkweb casino here. I guess it will find some admirers but IMO people are still more likely to gamble in ordinary online casinos since TOR is associated with illegal activities mostly and some people just don't want to download some additional browser before trying gambling. And as you are a new casino, I think you need some escrow for people to know that you at least are capable of paying them if they win. And maybe you should make posts in this thread with screenshots of made payments at first, so that any new-comer would be sure your casino is not a scam. Good luck!

Good suggestions. Thanks!

I do plan to raise the bankroll / maximum bets. I was hoping first to get more feedback on the site, though, so that I can a) determine if the site is even viable, given all the competition, b) improve the site based on suggestions of people who have used it. I have a few hidden service projects going on, so I have to decide how much funding makes sense to keep tied up in each one.

the maximum bet is very low-you should increase your bankroll first
as the whole point of betting on TOR network or darkweb is to be able to wager big coins
promote the site ,as was mentioned above, create a couple of promo campaigns
maybe top wagered contest or offer free credit and raise the witdrawal minimum during the promo  period

rollorspin,

When you use tor, you hide your actual IP address/location from whatever web site you are visiting. All the web site sees is the IP address of the exit node (the last server your connection goes through before you reach the site). You will need to download the tor browser if you want to access PenguinDice.

OR, you can use this link https://penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion.to but BE WARNED you will not be anonymous, because the people who run the .to clearnet portal will see your real IP address.

Yes just download tor browser that will change your IP and location details. In this way you can hide from authority radars but better you take precautions when using bitcoin addresses. Don't post your address details anywhere in online because authority can track you down. And don't send bitcoin from your known address to any of the darknet site or to gambling site like this if it is not allowed in your law, use new address for this.

Yes you miss alot of things actually specially about bitcoin transactions. If you use bitcoin mixers/tumblers to deposit on any gambling platform or anywhere, noone can track you down and also bitcoin address is not associated with any personal info if you don't post your bitcoin addresses anywhere online.

So why not simply using a VPN? If you already take the time to use a mixer why not simply using a VPN and not TOR?
And if you think a btc adress can't get linked to you you got a lot to learn Grin

You'll need to actually use the tor browser if you want the site to appear correctly. Let me know if you do get the tor browser working and are able to get to the site.

Pamoldar,

Thanks for mentioning ghostbook. I had never heard of it. I just looked at its thread on bitcointalk:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1596747.180

It looks like the owners shut down the site unexpectedly, and everyone who had money deposited had no way to withdraw?

That definitely sets a bad precedent for tor gambling sites.

m0gliE,

To avoid getting tracked based on your bitcoin purchases there are two main options. One option, as amacar2 pointed out, is to use a bitcoin mixer/tumbler (I noticed that several are advertised on here). Another option is to create an anonymous account on a P2P exchange site like LocalBitCoins or PaxFul and then find someone who is selling bitcoins for cash (either you meet with them in person, or do a cash deposit at their bank, or send them cash in the mail). It definitely takes some extra steps to keep your bitcoin purchases anonymous, but it is doable if you're motivated.

piloder,

Thanks for the feedback. I understand it is plain/primitive at this point. I have the basic functionality of betting working, but don't have the extra features that other sites have (like animations, chat, etc.).

The bankroll right now is only 2.0 btc (hence the low betting maximums).

You also mentioned that it's confusing. What do you find confusing about it?

I am hoping to improve it based of feedback from people like you. I put 0.00030 btc on your account. Would you mind making a few bets and letting me know what you think of how that works? If you get your balance up over the withdrawal fee you can withdraw your winnings.

Hello Bitcointalk Members,

I am announcing an open source dice betting tor hidden service called PenguinDice. The onion address is:

penguinsyuo2gtvz.onion

You'll need the tor browser to access the site. You can download that here:

https://www.torproject.org/

There are already a bunch of bitcoin dice gambling sites out there, so what's unique about this one? PenguinDice was designed with tor users in mind. It implements the following tor-friendly features:

1. Since it's a hidden service, tor users don't have to worry about MITM attacks from malicious exit nodes (which are common when accessing clearnet sites over tor).

2. The site uses a username and password login. Other dice betting sites try to make the player's life easier by automatically setting a browser cookie that will allow the user to access his/her account later without logging in. The tor browser clears cookies when closed. So a username/password login system is necessary for tor users.

3. The site functions without JavaScript, Flash, or any other insecure browser add-ons that tor users tend to keep disabled for security reasons.

A few important facts:

1. The house edge is 1%.

2. The site is open-source! Users may download the site's MySQL and PHP code.

3. Withdrawal transactions are sent immediately with adequate transaction fees, so you won't have to deal with long waits for withdrawals to complete.

The main disadvantage to this site right now is that the betting maximums are low (0.0005 to 0.003 btc per roll, depending on what number you want to bet on). So you're not going to win (or lose) huge amounts at once like on the big sites. I hope, however, to raise the betting maximums as the site gets more users.

As far as I know, this is the only dice betting hidden service out there (though please do tell me if you know of others).

This is a brand-new site and thus feedback is much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

-Penguiner

PS: For those of you curious about tor: Tor (or The Onion Router) is an anonymity network that you access with the tor browser. Why use tor? When you use tor, your ISP doesn't know which sites you're accessing and can't block what you view. And web sites you visit don't know your true IP address, and thus can't restrict your access based on where you live. The tor browser also comes with security features (like NoScript and HTTPS-Everywhere) to keep you safer from malware and phishing sites.
