Well the reason why some people buy bitcoin addresses is, they want to check there some clamcoins especially if the address had bitcoins held on May 12,2014 or if your address had some forked coins like bitcoin cash and other bitcoin forksthere are some sutes like freebitcoins.com where you can check your address if there are some forked coins or clams in there or a service like LoyceV wallet digging service.

I really cannot understand what you mean by washing money,you think that people will be submitted it to tax authorities and they will be paying those amounts too as tax or some need to justify how they had money in their accounts though the years
,i am not sure how that works and i am not sure why anyone wants old accounts unless to show off to others,yeah you could collect CLAM earlier,but it makes no sense .

the best possible answer is for claiming the CLAM airdrop, the Bitcoin address before 2014 dec has a CLAM in it, the clam airdrop distributed using Bitcoin address. Maybe they want to use the old wallet address and have many deals to prove that they have a good trading history and their reputation with partners. I suspect that these people may be using these wallets to cheat because if they are truly transparent they can make a wallet of their own with the highest security features.

For Transaction History or using for claim another coin. If i remember correctly, they buying address and signed message it to claim free CLAM coin in the past, so i think its work like that too now.
