I don't think so that DT will go after that, The moderator of this forum are not that big so they don't have time for it or maybe there is no rule how are we going to spend our smerit. I believe that others here is selling smerit but that guys is already legend he got the highest rank of a member so i don't think that he buy it, maybe the one who give the merit laugh so hard with his post.

I got it, I replied a few posts ago, please stop replying to boost your post count.
Can a mod please lock this thread?

Thanks.

I wonder why there is not a team dedicated to monitor this system of merit.
There isn't a dedicated team, but there are a lot of forum members who do this on their own time, and they do a very good job.  There isn't going to be such a team, however.  Theymos basically doesn't endorse DT members tagging merit beggars or merit abusers, and since merit-giving is very subjective it isn't always obvious that someone is doing something wrong.  Sometimes it is, though.  Right now, it's pretty much a waste of time to scrutinize people's merit-giving and receiving, because most of the time no action is going to be taken, and that's frustrating to the person doing the work to show the evidence and make the accusation.

The wall is a world of it's own - it's the chat room for the statistical traders.
Right, and that's why I don't think there was any merit abuse here.  They're apparently a community within a community of chart watchers.  I wouldn't have merited those posts, but I don't think there was merit sales or trading or anything like that.  There's certainly no evidence of it.

That's because it is funny.
Agreed.  I've been known to give merits to short posts or just memes that make me chuckle.  That doesn't mean I'm giving merit to a friend, and alt account, selling merit, or anything else.

there are many, many posters on there who never step outside that one thread.
And honestly, they probably don't care that much about the merit system.  They very well might just view it as sort of a thumbs-up system like reddit has--and that's kind of what the merit system is anyway, except we all know it's much, much more than that to the average noob bounty hunter who can earn more money in a campaign if he can rank up.

It doesn't mean that it is a case of merit abuse when someones receive a merit from posting a photo or one-liner post. Sometimes people may find it hilarious. It is not necessary to post an essay to receive merit tho.. Grin

I am so glad this smll amount of merit received from 2 different sources was caught.

Only because this post made me laugh, I wish I had an smerit to hand off to it. I may even explain bitcoin that way the next time I'm asked. Grin

As someone already said the "wall of bitcoin" is like a different forum on this forum with its own community.

Ok thanks for your replies, I guess I didnt see it like a chat thread and thought merits should be given wisely anywhere on this forum.

Merit is subjective in nature. What do you think wise might be below average for somebody.

I like to quote Sir Author Canon Dolyle , Dialogue from Sherlock Holmes book.

Quote
"Excellent" , I cried.   "Elementary", he replied.

So what is excellent for Watson, that was elementary for Sherlock Holmes.
Same goes with Merit.

elsewhere a noob might get a merit for a perfectly thought out multi paragraph post that sheds new light on things. on the wall observer thread you get one or more for a good dick joke. it is what it is.

there are many, many posters on there who never step outside that one thread. most are long established with alot of merit to throw around. i think more than a few have given up venturing into other parts of the forum as it's so filled with crap.

The Wall Observer thread has it’s own ecosystem, and is in fact the most merited thread of all Bitcointalk (9.582 sMerits awarded to posts in that thread until last Friday, which more than triples the next most merited thread which is Merit & New Rank Requirements). I’d say it has it’s own prestige and set of supporters as well as detractors, but the former are probably very faithful to the thread making it one of the largest, if not the largest subcommunities.

At the end of June 2017, theymos considered it was heavily derailing and going off-topic, and intervened to reroute the thread (which is pretty unusual I figure): What to do with the wall observer thread? .

What can be spotted, rather than monitored, are flagrant cases of merit abuse (normally involving constant awarding from A -> B and not many more, or rather high amounts for posts that are of low quality). When these are spotted, they may be reported in threads such as (List) Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0. If proof is sufficient, they may be red tagged by a DT member. Since Merit is not moderated, it is down to actions such as the above are called for, but that’s about it.

After seeing this post https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.44240389 get three merits, I wonder why there is not a team dedicated to monitor this system of merit.
Thoughts?

Monitored by DT if abused merit system. And your mention thread didn't receive huge amount of merit to mark merit abuse. Merit hold by user, only user can decide where he will spend his smerit. That's why it's not moderated by forum. I don't  feel there is need dedicated team & it's not possible monitor.

I don't see any abuse. The Wall Observer BTC/USD is basically an isolated community.

But no, there will be no team. If you see a blatant merit abuse/trading sometimes, there is no problem in reporting it to a DT member, but theymos already said that you (or at least him) shouldn't lose sleep over people trading or buying merits.

Its not important that there is a team that will monitor the merits that are being distributed. It will be time wasting. I saw the user's post history and most if not all of his merit that received came from that thread.
