As some of you know, I'me getting close to being 80 years old, and I have several friends that are over 80. A couple of them are widows living in houses worth over a million, but having to rely on a pension for their income. I'm in Hampshire in England, and that uis a rich semi-rural county, so their houses tend to have a good chunk of land - in one case over 2 acres. I getting really pissed off with some of their rich neighbours and others who are trying to steal bits of their land, and putting extreme pressure on them to try to push them into an early grave so that they can buy their houses. One even had the temerity to suggest that the house should be left to him, and that he could make all the necessary repairs to bring it up to modern standards. Another threatened to kill her cat if she didn't chop the top off a magnificent oak tree.

The police seem unwilling to take any action as the worst one would appear to be a mason. I've decided that it is time I offered some support, and I plan to use the Internet as a tiol to help me. More direct action is probably unwise, as one of them is a barrister. I'm going to use the alias of Percy Cution, and I have registered the domain https://PercyCution.com . I'm about to install B2Evolution to manage a blog on it.

So what do you think of the name and the site. Is it going to get me into trouble? Does it give the wrong impression?

[edit] Well B2Evo wouldn't install for some reason, so I installed Drupal. It's a bit of an over kill, but it will certainly be able to do the job.

A great impression from you though, open minded and willing to help the elders without getting anything in return, I think the world need more people like you.
But be careful and cautious in all you do please.

You need proof/evidence and/or witnesses. If it is their property there are plenty of methods of surveillance that they can apply once it does not breach anothers property space. Firstly if they have any legal grounds to apply they should apply for a restraining order/exclusion or whatever is similiar there against these people so they can be arrested if they trespass on the property. Suitable surveillance or even a simple hunting camera etc can assist in gathering evidence. Also record any threats over the phone etc. Do not try to entrap them into providing evidence as this would be less than helpful if the judge on the matter saw you to be an underhanded person who incites or provokes.

It's such a good impression and as well think the name and domain is quite perfect to get ahead with too.

However, this bold generosity of yours would tactically help improve the community to a definitive state.

Thumbs up

Damn!! Really!? My respect for you has just increased like x10, honestly.

Back to the topic, my elderly parents have also suffered themselves the "moving the fence" tactics by their new neighbours; it is a shame, but they are just a few square metres in total in this case, so it doesn't worth the time, effort and probably money to claim them, not to say creating a rivalry with the people who live next to them.

About killing the cat, in Spain the Penal Code was reformed a few years ago so now the animal abuse is punished by prison. I don't know how it works in the UK but this threatening goes far beyond the typical selfishness of the "I want for me someone else's land" and denotes a sadistic personality that should be controlled.

I don't know how to help in this case but I hope you the best and I will be following this thread. Keep up!

having a blog to rant issues. gets no results
ends up just being a begging site with a sob story. as most smart people see that the money wont win any lawsuits.
what you need is proof

you dont always need land accessors. you can make your own maps and use drone images from above as comparables
and compare them to land registry details.

as for the blackmail. bribes and threats.
a website listing hearsay quotes is not evidence.. get a recording device. get some voice recordings of malicious conversation. get video of any property tresspass. keep any paper document threats(blackmail letters)
..
if you got no evidence then your just ranting. and not working on a solution

so spend more time learning about getting evidence. not on website rant blogs

You have already given here quite some details, hence somebody searching deep enough could get to you. It's a risk...

Then... well, I've seen places where the neighbors try to steal here and there a little bit of land by moving the fence by an inch now and then, so I can guess the stress, and the only solution I've found for that was concrete walls. Ugly, but effective. I'd also recommend, if it's possible and the law allows it, powerful security cameras, to also "see" a bit of what happens "around", just in case.

About threatening that they'll kill the cat... I don't expect the police be able to do much, it's the word of one person against the word of another person. The culprit will go free in no time.

Back to the blog idea, I'm not convinced any policeman would take it too serious and, in case the culprit is getting tipped off by the police (it can happen!), they'll know that you know this or that and when things get ugly, you'll become a target  Sad
I don't know, there has to exist a better solution...

RE moving boundaries, land limits are registered. Moving the "mark stone" is referenced in Egyptian scripts 2000 BC. and is still an offence so recurring to the law should work for that. Not that wall are a bad idea anyway. Catwise... well, CCTV and some recordings and recordings of sound could be of help, but...yeah... lost cause mostly.

RE old people living in expensive houses but with moderate pensions... well, you may consider a reverse mortgage or some form of equity release. It is of little use to have a valuable property if you cannot maintain it. You can live on it, get some additional income and still leave something for your heirs if that means anything to you.

EDITED TO ADD: I skipped over the fact that you know a few widows over 80 with valuable houses. Are they good looking? Would you say that they are in good health? .... just asking you know, they may need some love and sincere caring from me.  Grin

I like your idea of trying to help people across even on forum. You seem upright and that is an enviable character to emulate.

But I don't like the part a lawyer is evolved to cheat other people of their property. People that should be protected but because they are widows, people want to take advantage and that is bad.

Keep your idea of reaching out to many through social media and blog, it will get more good spirited neighborhood in supporting your mission to help.

But why will the police not do the needful but to watch people cheating others because they perhaps have taken bribes...

Hey... Octogenary, you confrontational ? I can imagine. Don't allow it get physical, we want to celebrate a centurion Shocked Grin

Keep being a big brother to your neighborhood.

although your friend owns the land. they do not own the air
anything like a shadow on a neighbours land or fallen branches or stuff like that is your friends problem

such as if the neighbour had solar panels but a tall tree in your friends land is over shadowing the neighbours panels. means your friend has to top the tree down

same is said about making house extensions. although its on your friends land. if the extension reduces your neighbours view. they have the right to complain.

what is a state of law is the LAND. so moving the boundaries is a big no no. so if a neighbour is doing so. then you can sue them to rectify that.
but of course that means getting land surveyors out to calculate the boundary lines to prove such has occurred

as for neighbours harassing/blackmailing the friend to hand over land/property. that is a crime. again needs some proof. like a voice recording or a video recording of such communication.

in short. if the tree needs to be topped. it will be topped.
as for the harassment and land ownership blackmails/disputes. get some proof and sue them.

not suggesting it. but . if the friend knows the boundary lines. they could themselves move it a bit. and then say the neighbour done it. eg before and after pic.
(its like some who punch themselves in the face to get others in trouble...)

We are equal before the law so sue them with the evidence you have gathered. He has contributed to society by working during his years, which should be recognized and respected.
I hope the neighbors won't harass you again.
I am very happy and surprised to know an elderly member on this forum.

Well I'm enjoying refreshing my memory of Drupal admin, and checking to see what's new in Drupal 9. It includes a forum ( which isn't enabled yet),but that will be useful to get some traffic and support. I'll also have a look at adding a Bitcoin donation page - that could help with legal fees.

Now I need to create a suitable logo. I've got an idea using axes and heads, but I need to refresh my Gimp skills as well, so that will have to wait. Smiley

Thanks for the comments, and I agree with most of your comments. I'm quite confrontational, so I'm not too bothered if they come after me. I'm more interested in messing up one of the guys attempts to develop his land in contravention of the restrictions in his title.

btw - the site will be used to help more than one person. They have problems with modern technology, and they still use cash and cheques for payments. Computers are the spawn of the devil in their opinions. Anyway, I need to refresh my memory about Drupal, I'm a couple of years behind with the developments, and I've forgotten much of it.
