Murloc, I feel your pain. I spend years on a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) very similar to World of Warcraft and the developers lost interest or moved onto other projects. Players started to leave or they simply moved onto other games.

All that time invested in ranking up and hoarding resources and upgrading equipment was lost.

The developers must be involved in project like this or this will fail. We know Blizzard likes to abandon older projects to push people to buy into newer projects, because they want to make more money and players quickly gets bored. ^sad^

Hey everyone! I would like to share my thoughts about one problem and its possible solution. I'm not a tech guy and I am not able to do something about this idea. I am just curious if it is possible to release something like this (mostly interested in opinions about a technical side of my idea but everyone can share his thoughts). Lets go:
As some of you could already guess (my nickname and my avatar are saying everything) I am a World of Warcraft player and I am a huge fan of this game. Unfortunately for the last few years Blizzard (the original devs for those who don't know) are releasing shitty expansions all the time so I have to chose the best expansion for me and chose the best private server for playing. Those servers have different problems all the time: Blizzard can shut them down, GMs can leave the server and stop working on it, GMs can start performing different rogue actions in order to get some money, server can just become too laggy and unplayable or the administration can just close it because they want. They apologise for any inconviniences or shutdowns but it usualy sounds like "Fuck you, the server and database are ours, we've been working on it and we can do whatever we want".
For those who never played WoW this is a type of game where you can spend a huge amount of time lvling your character, gearing up, getting some hard achievements before you could actualy start clearing the latest content so it is painfull to hear about the shutdown after you've spent a month only lvling your char (sometimes it is boring as fuck). I belive that players should be the original owners of their characters and not the administration. For example I have seversl chars and the latest one have about a month of the pure /played time. Players also make a strong contribution to the game server just by giving their time to the whole community. And it is only a small part of the outgame problems that players face.
My question is simple: is it possible to create a decentralized database that will save the ingame chars and could be used by everyone just to prevent the unwanted scams and shutdowns? Also I am interested if it could be technicaly done simply WoW is already developed project so maybe blockchain won't be just suitable for it (people are developing their own cores for the private servers so hopefully blockchain database is also possible).
Anyway all your thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks for reading it. Smiley
