Not sure why this thread was necro'ed but the answer was no in 2011 and is still no in 2014.

Companies are going to want a business reason to accept bitcoin, not a popular reason. If people petition a company to make a business decision then the company may evaluate the economics of making such decision however if the economics do not add up then they will not follow through with the decision.

A good example is the petition for amazon to accept bitcoin. As of now there are close to 5,000 "signatures" however amazon has not even responded.

Online petition sites are all crap and stupid. Nobody take the results seriously, spend your time to email/call the customer support directly and tell them i want to purchase with bitcoin instead of doing these petitions. 5000 emails sent directly to retailer clearly has more weight than 5000 signatures on a petition.

I don't think it will work. But the time will come, many customers prefer to pay with bitcoin. They are reluctant to go to the retails if they don't accept bitcoin payment.

Some retailers may respond, but I think most will wait until they know there's a real market. The best way to pressure retailers is to show them that there IS a market - the more they hear about real goods changing hands for bitcoins, the more they'll believe there's profit in accepting them. It will take time and trade.

Not that I'm biased towards more bitcoin trade, or anything :-).

Just put the question on Google Adsense forum asking when Google will add the option of making payments to publishers via bitcoins.

Let's do a proper positive push to online retailers.  Do it in a way that could have a good impact.

In this thread http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=26430.0 I noticed two things.

First, other people willing to put up something rather quickly (and I know for a fact there are tons of supporters here on the forums if they knew something would be somewhat organized and of course it gets done).

Second, a domain name that the owner would most likely be willing to help.   Benefits to all supporters and merchants to an organized effort for Bitcoin to other merchants would of course mean their name somewhere in this campaign.

We have lots of tools, lets get some more brainstorming.  Petitions are nice, but they only work in really specific situations, and convincing retailers to do something, well imo, it will taking putting your money where your mouth is.   So the campaign needs to involve people giving something up in some way, obvious money or Bitcoin is the simple and easy answer, but not maybe the right one.   This thread should be reserved for brainstorming to get a good real campaign going.

Fezzik, tear his arms off.
Do you think it would work if we had enough people to sign a petition or maybe even mail bombing online retailers to start accepting BitCoins? I mean, even Google creating an online wallet for BTC, maybe we an convince the other online services/stores to start accepting them as well?
This was my goal in part in creating MetaCo.in.  I point to it when I contact non-bitcoin businesses to show them that there is a group of folks willing to fork over money in the form of btc.  I think we're still in an in-between phase with the btc economy.  Deals we've done like the alpaca socks or today's Bitjerky prove that the number of people isn't insignificant, but it's not really the kind of numbers that motivate people either.

Google is creating an online wallet for bitcoins? Why haven't I heard about this and where can I find more information. Sounds far too good to be true.
