Id sign this,  I agree that sometimes a newbie has valid collateral but not very often.  Restricting the access would certainly clean up the lending section.

In my opinion, newbies should not be allowed to open new threads at all, they should be allowed to open new thread only at newbies section. That would prevent lot of crap on this forum. It is enough for newbies to answer on existing threads till they gain some experience on how things work here. For lending section, i agree with OP, they should not be allowed to post there. If someone need just loan, he better go to some specialized lending service and not to bother here on forum with that.

I agree with this. I shall not open any new threads while I am still newbie. I will just read and post normally.

A lot of newbies are actually legit and have a good reputation elsewhere or they have a valid collateral so no.

looks like you've been out of the forum for a long time buddy or you just dont visit the lending section for long now? if you got some time to check 100newbies posting a loan request there, you will be lucky to see 1 offering valid collateral

... then that newbie should ask for a loan in that "elsewhere" where that newbie was able to build a good reputation. If newbie will show up in the lending section asking for a loan with a collateral of a High Rank account, I don't think that's newbie? Most of the time newbie's with collateral use High Rank account, it's very seldom that newbies asking for loan use alt coins or other valid collateral.

that's funny man, good one. I almost laughed internally.

call it jaded, cynical, whatever. very few newbies in the lending section have collateral, even fewer have valid ones.

If the % of those asking for loan with newbie rank is very low then why give them the benefit of posting and asking for a loan in that section.
I know there are a few who newbies who offers a valid collateral like alt coins but how many are they? How many in a week or a month?
The number is very low versus those who have nothing to offer or with ridiculous collateral like Passports, ID's.

Surely 90% of the new signups are either fud spreaders hiding behind new accounts or morons who think they'll get a loan the moment they introduce themselves. Membership would go down a lot.

even without thinking about it I can guarantee you that number is below 1%.
Exactly. So why do we have to cater to that less than 1% of the newbies asking for loans? That number is practically zero. Why do we need to allow a bunch of newbies to fill up threads and that board with potential scams on the off chance that one of them is actually legit?

But that *rarely* is enough to keep the newbies there. Just because the scammers are ruining it for everyone else (indicating the newbies) doesn't mean we have to block all the newbies out.
Someone should run some stats figure out how many newbies actually had valid collateral and actually paid back loans that they were given. If it came out to be statistically insignificant (e.g. <2% of all newbie loan requests were legit) then I'm sure that is enough reason to ban them from the section. Maybe I'll do this over the holidays.

They could always just send you a pm if they want a loan and have valid collateral. If they do actually have valid collateral then you as the lender could post the details in the thread so that it is public.

The reason why most lenders don't like people PMing them loan requests is that they have a reason to want to keep it private and in the down-low, and nine times out of ten, it's so that they don't immediately get bombarded by DT negative trusts. It's rare that a lender doesn't negative rep them + report them to a DT member, but sometimes it happens.

Like subSTRATA said, though, I've seen this come up a couple of times and every time there hasn't really been a good reason to do it, and been rejected each and every time. It's just not going to happen, sorry guys.

I'm totally for this. The good of the idea far outweighs the bad. Newbies just shouldn't be in the loan section--it rarely turns out well.

I support this.

Some newbs with valid collateral will still be there, and you'll lose a more or less valuable amount of potential members who turn away just because they couldn't access the Lending board.
Lets be honest here mate, admins won't bother.
Very few newbs have the valid collateral but i agree there are some that do but at the same time any project they might have can wait a month IMO

that would more or less encourage the private solicitation of loans via pm, which is sketchy enough as is, not to mention the spam that could come to lenders. the idea has been brought up before, was against it then, still against it now.

No.

Once in a while a newbie appears with valid collateral and wants to get a valid loan.

Id like to get some opinions on what you guys think about newbies in the lending section? I just spent a couple hours in there creating my own lending thread and noticed quite a few newbies getting tagged with neg rep for obv not reading rules, offering no collatteral, or just being plain douchebags in general. What do they have to lose by asking? Nothing obviously, they get neg rep and make a new account and sooner or later someone might be dumb enough to give them the loan.

What i would like to see is newbies not have access to lending section period until maybe they reach jr member status. At least then theyve spent more than 1 month on the forum and may have had a chance to read the rules. Plus it keeps so many accounts from being wasted.
