I have a similar project, the wallets generated at the moment are not so pretty as Piper's, it's fully open source as piper, uses a standard USB thermal printer and an old linux box or a Raspberry PI. Here's the project's website: http://paperbank.it

I setup up a how-to to add some new Doge options here , Git here. This my first raspi attempt. Results seem so far so good. You can swap out the by simply changing the background image in the home/pi/Printer/Images folder.

Cool! I did the same thing with mine, only I removed the serial number, URL, and extra private key from the bottom.

I got mine a couple months ago and love it. Does anyone have a how-to for adding more coins?

I ordered it a week ago together with an additional roll of paper.
Let's look how time it takes to be delivered to me in Italy...

Did you get a shipping confirmation email? I didn't... :<

I think the OP is too busy promoting, and not a scammer. I heard he was at the latest Bitcoin meetup showing off this printer so I doubt he's going to taint his rep over 6 rolls of paper.

I don't care so much about the money as much as I care that these are apparently custom rolls that I'll probably have a hard time ordering elsewhere.. and I'm down to my last one.

Still nothing for my order..... Anyone get a unit lately??

I ordered 6 rolls of paper a while ago and haven't received them yet.

I ordered a printer last year and that came with no problems.

Well, don't count on it.

I've ordered mine 2 weeks ago, got an order confirmation and after that, total silence.
They don't reply on emails, ignore DM on Twitter, etc.

Too bad I live in The Netherlands, no way to pay them a visit..

So in my case Piperwallet is a complete scam and I simply lost 0.2664 BTC..

[edit]
awkward.. within an hour after posting this message I got a shipping confirmation.
I will let you guys know if I really receive the device.
[/edit]

When did they say they were aiming for dispatch?

Well, the shipping confirmation is probably fake as well, a week later, it still says 'PRE-SHIPMENT' on the USPS website.
The piperwallet.com website still states that the device ships within 7 days after ordering.

So people, don't buy the Piperwallet as it seems to be a complete scam.

I really think this is cool, but I think that it's just a bit too pricey for something I can do at home with my own printer. I don't really print paper wallets that often, but if I wanted to print a lot, I would use this but I only have a few that needed to be printed once for cold storage. I still think it's an incredible piece of hardware, but it's just too expensive dor how much I would use it. If you would use this regularly, I could totally understand but most of the people I try to get into bitcoins either don't care, don't understand or don't have the technical knowledge to use anything but their blockchain wallet.

Ordered one for use, EVEN cooler if it could SMS me the wallet key when I print lol. Than it could be loaded remotely. for businesses looking to sell etc.

Does look a pretty cool device and fairly cheap, but the pledge goal of  $1,000 seems quite low. Did they state what they needed that money for?

and a personal email;

Hi,

Your order has shipped today.  Please accept our apologies for the late shipment.  We are behind on all orders by a few days due to an unexpected influx of orders.

Thanks!

How are there no posts on this? This product just seems epic!

It's a novel idea, however the parts cost is under $100 (buying from a company that still charges a good 50% over wholesale). I will say though, it's definitely a great package deal for those who don't have the know-how to put one together themselves.

I have a raspberry pi and a thermal printer and a desire to figure out how to make a version of this!  I saw something called Numbwallet or something that used a few lines of python...couldn't a paper wallet be created with the press of a button?

I agree this is pretty cool!
The only down side I see is that it seems to be a thermal printer and we all know what happens to that paper after it sees some sun or is in your pocket/wallet for too long...
That's a small one on the con list compared to all the pro's.
I dunno how I missed this on Kickstarter.  Undecided

Now accepting orders for Piper shipping July 30th!

Hi everyone, we've been hard at work getting Piper ready for you, and we're ready to start taking orders.

Right now, we're taking orders in both Bitcoin and USD.
If you wish to pay with Bitcoin, you can do so directly on our site https://piperwallet.com.
If you wish to pay with USD, please do so through our Kickstarter located here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/299052466/piper-a-hardware-based-paper-wallet-printer-and-mo
If Piper sells out on Kickstarter we will open USD payment directly on our site https://piperwallet.com

Bitcoin orders will be shipped in the order that they are received, so place your order now!
Kickstarter orders will be shipped depending on which "reward" you choose, with some shipping in the first batch July 30th and some in the second batch.

Here are some of the things we've accomplished in the past month:

  • We've completely rewritten the firmware to be event-driven instead of polling-based
  • We posted our source code on http://github.com so that you can see that Piper generates it's bitcoin keypairs in a secure fashion
  • We've printed over 500 paper wallets for testing
  • We designed an enclosure and went through 4 manufactured prototypes of it
  • We built a shopping cart system for the website
  • We got a Kickstarter project approved despite an initial turn-down where Amazon payments closed our account due to our product being bitcoin-related
  • We subjected Piper to 26 of the Dieharder tests of randomness to prove that the private keys generated by Piper are truly random.  And it passed every single one with flying colors.

Please report any errors that you have when ordering using the shopping cart and ordering system on piperwallet.com.  We wrote it ourselves and it hasn't been tested on a large scale yet so there may still be bugs.  Please bear with us, and feel free to contact us anytime at [email protected]

Thanks so much everyone for your support so far, the community has been really amazing!
