2fa is there for your protection even though it can be a pain in the ass sometimes but afaik all the sites you mentioned above will use some kind of 2fa for they don't want user's funds getting stolen. I have used coinbase in the past but never enabled their sms 2fa because I did the same with my blockchain info wallet at one time and I was locked out of my account, but Authy as suggested by others works well.

What you should do is when you're not able to receive the sms just click call and you'll receive an instant call and the automated voice will tell you the 2fa code to enter.

Core dev leaves me neg feedback #abuse #political
coinbase blows as far as their phone verification.  They admitted it plainly to me that its unreliable.
But the authy app should work.

Pretty much every exchange out there will have 2 factor authentication. This helps secure your account, especially after 6 months. If you don't login after 6 months, I'm pretty sure most exchanges will still have you go through the 2FA in order to make sure that you are actually you. Without this security, someone could login into your account and steal your money. Sure it might be annoying to need to do 2FA after not logging in for a long time, but it will help secure your account if you forgot about it and it gets hacked. On the short term, every exchange has the option to save your computer. Just check that box and make sure you aren't in incognito mode or you aren't deleting your cookies.

You could always disable 2FA if you don't care about security. There should be an option in settings somewhere.

2FA is a given for anyone that wants to have a chance to recover their accounts if in trouble, but honestly sometimes its overkill. Assuming you aren't making the mistake of leaving important amounts of BTC inside a exchange, veryfing it every month or so should be enough. If anything, require an SMS confirmation when you want to withdraw, but not every login. As a day trader, I don't want to be receiving SMSs and confirming them every time I log in. Everything should be option and the end user should be accountable of any loss if they disable 2FA.

About a few weeks ago, I signed up for coinbase and purchased 8 bitcoins. The coinbase rating was second best however after leaving the account dormant for several weeks, I have attempted to login and ran into myriad of difficulties.

first, the android app I installed on my phone does not let me login and instead asked for a verification code. It did not arrive nowhere which left me further confused. after a while i noticed there is a very small "send SMS" button on the bottom of the app front face and figured, I had to specifically press that to cause the code sent to my phone. Needless to stay that button is not evident and sometimes does not work when pressed. I had to press several times in order for it to receive the code, because of the erratic behavior sometimes it sent me the code twice.

After entering the code, it will still not let me login instead will send the verification e-mail to my e-mail I registered with the coinbase wallet. I had to login to my gmail account and finally I can login.

But trouble did not stop, I decided to log out and log back in and whole process started all over again: SMS code and e-mail verification! everytime!.

Tried on my laptop's browser and same thing happened. Laptop browser was slightly (not much but slight) better as there is a checkbox which allows the user to not verify the device for another 30 days. But I dont think this is a good. after 6 months, the user just wants to be able to login and this will definitely hinder the login process.
But on the other hand, it lied during the login process that the verification process is a one-time event and will not ask again. But after I logged out of browser, unless I specifically hit that magic checkbox, it will keep asking.

I think coinbase, despite the A+ rating is a poorly implemented application.
This will specially hurt, in case any time, if I want to make a purchase in a hurry or sell it and will definitely cause a problem.

I am wondering is there any easier to use application platform other then coinbase?

From the link reviewing several platforms I see following choices which I am familiar with:

coinsetter
bitstamp
kraken
coinMKT

If anyone use any of these platforms, can you please let me know if any of them has a easier login steps:

Register and verify every device using either SMS or e-mail.
Once verified, able to login using username and password with no more questions asked.
Thanks.
