Sucks that the system can change its mind, literally changing your life just like that. Still, for what he did, whether intentional, he was getting away very lightly.

Oscar should have been given a life sentence, the racial politics of that country as well his celebrity definitely played their part, i wonder what the result would have been if he was not famous and poor and black? i am sure most people know....

Race played no part in this. If he was wealthy and if he was black, even then he would have been let off with a light sentence. How can you claim that the Whites are getting preferential treatment in a country where the entire government and judicial mechanism is being run by the Africans? He was wealthy and he managed to bribe the judges. That is it.

To be considered "premeditated", just how far in advance of the crime does the premeditation have to happen? Minutes, hours, days?? Seems to me that when you decide to fire bullets thru a door knowing someone is on the other side, you have made a "decision".

This is all a hogwash. I am sure that he will be out of the jail after two or three months time. Had he committed this offence in Texas or Oklahoma, then he would have been put behind bars for the rest of his life. But unfortunately for the victim, the incident occurred in South Africa, which is having perhaps the most lax criminal punishment system in the world.

I'm glad because of this new verdict.
I always felt that first verdict is unfair to the victim, Reeva and her family.
Murder is serious crime and now her family finally received justice.

June Steenkamp has forgiven the athlete, she tells TV interviewer following supreme court of appeal’s ruling

Reeva Steenkamp’s mother June has called the murder verdict handed to Oscar Pistorius a sign of respect for her daughter and said she forgives him.

In her first comments since the appeal court ruling on Thursday, she said: “Now we’ve seen that the justice system works. It’s about respect for my daughter, how wonderful she was, how clever she was, all that was taken away from her.”.

Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day in 2013. Originally convicted of culpable homicide, the South African equivalent of manslaughter, the supreme court of appeal said the Paralympian was guilty of murder.

June Steenkamp was present as the court handed down its decision, as she has been throughout the long legal process. After the verdict, she was seen sobbing on the steps of the court house.

She was calm and composed in the interview with the state broadcaster SABC. “I see this as the truth. And the success is due to the justice system and God,” she said. “This is respect for my daughter and her life also, and respect for women all over this country, because we have too much of this happening and people get away with it.

“Life was taken. And the person who took the life must pay the price now. If you do the crime, you have to do the time. I’m not really interested in how much time, but I’m happy with the verdict. I feel better we have justice for her. She hasn’t been forgotten. She won’t be forgotten.”
