I'm surprised at the OP because you have this forum's economy section at your disposal do where else and what else are you looking for to read?

There are a lot of groundbreaking and interesting articles that never make it to the economics section of this forum.

I have a feeling newer thought provoking threads in this section only receive a handful of replies, while the more generic ones have been on page 1 since 2012.

Would be nice if more people posted economic/financial threads in this section to help us get rid of the old threads that are being beaten like dead horses.

I haven't kept up with economic news or trends in a long time.

Sites I used to frequent were places like.

Seekingalpha.com

Fool.com

Zerohedge.com

Bloomberg, wall street journal, economist, the atlantic, morningstar, etc -- there are a lot of good sites out there.

I have not had the habit of following the news before, and after spending some time on this forum and talking to people in real life about the economy, I find most people knows what's going on in the world, economically. I really wish to get first hand information as well and stay more updated. Any recommended source of news?

Yes that is true that members of this forum are updated with the real life economy. I have a friends who is very good in economy and I have learned from him that reading new is the best way to keep track of the market. He also said that reading the news or articles is not enough, learning how to analyze what was written or what is being read is essential to understand the whereabouts of the economy. Reading news and articles is a great way to acquire information which might be used to earn bitcoin.

Anyway, I suggest reading the Economist. It is a good site to read economical news and trends.

For the most part ignore the news - by the time you read it, its too late.

I haven't watched 'the news' in years and anytime I happen to be somewhere it's playing I can't help but think its a mix between an infomercial and Running Man style infotainment. I will swear blind that there is paid content / advertising mixed in with regular shit. And its so fucking lacking in substance it should be criminal. In what crazy blue pill world does something like a tree falling into a house in a storm take precedence over explaining what role interest rates are supposed to play in an economy? Every one needs cash, no one should rightly give a shit about a storm save that no one is hurt.

So, I would say use twitter. Despite its limitations, take it with a grain of salt and follow a wide range of people and views, even hashtags. But follow differing opinions, that's important for trying to spot a trend and insulates you a little from the presstitutes.

Economist magazine and Bloomberg are good to follow.

I also follow the same.. Bloomberg and magazines, i also read some local newspaper.
A website of some news around the world could also be a good source. now a days, you can always look anything you want in the internet. some viral news feeds about economic trends is also informative, maybe not all but some are yes.

If you look for alternative in-depth political information that is also relevant for economic developments I'd recommend voltairenet.org.

Zerohedge.com is also an interesting site for economic news, although often contains exaggerations. If you are interested in economic analysis by investment firms, you can try advisorperspectives.com.

Regardless what news sources you prefers. What's most important is that you don't blindly believe the conclusions drawn by so-called "experts". Always try to scrutinize the information given and watch for political affiliations and potential conflicts of interests of the writers. A lot of experts have been totally wrong in the past (for example regarding the Trump victory and the likely market reactions).

this forum is also an excellent source of news. But it is advisable to have a few proven sites, where there is always the latest news. In addition, it is very useful to read analytical articles and statistics

Are you looking for economy as a whole or just a certain country? It's quite different since they have different aspects. Google is your friend and you don't need to look at single site only fore regular economic updates.

For a certain country you can google the country name + economy news ;

For general, then just type economy news or something similar to that.

There are also news site or related sites which has an option to receive daily newsletter or updates.

Google news is good when we are searching for something specific.
To get an idea of economic trends in general, I think a site dedicated to finance/business will be helpful. Google and google news don't provide any insights to me in this regard.

Ya i also browsing Bloomberg for reading the current economic news. But for getting what you call "first hand information" is totally hard especially when your source is only news website. You need to know someone in political sector or economic sector that can provide accurate news before its goes to public.

Ive been reading the Reuters Global Markets News section.
They have some great articles.

Depending on the policies put in place when Trump becomes president, Bitcoin price may be affected.
If stock markets or currencies like Chines Yuan or the US Dollar drop, investment in Bitcoin may be a good investment.
Watch the stock and bond markets. Volatility there might be a good sign to invest in BTC as well.

Start with google. In economy too people expect different news, so searching through google and finding the apt website that interest you is the better choice than just surfing news and information websites.

I agree with all of the previous posters, though I'd add that you have to be aware of
the agenda of the source, and they tend to be mainstream. Finance tends to be
less biased.

I'd add:
http://www.reuters.com/finance/markets
http://www.zerohedge.com/

And ths site sometimes has economics news, but its main purpose is to provide alternative reporting:
http://www.newsbud.com/
(look up the background for Sibel Edmonds on wikipedia)

CNBC, Telegraph and BBC are good because they're easy to use and brief. Some sites like bloomberg are lag heavy and sometimes information heavy. FT is also very good but expensive.
But these are for stock and forex trading and also for commodities like gold and silver trading. For bitcoin and altcoin trading we must need to follow crypto currency based news and magazines for quick update.

For altcoin trading, we just need to follow this forum for any perfect decisions because no one will be able to get chances to cover up latest news other than bitcointalk on altcoins.

Nowadays i don't believe what i see in internet. first of all because there's a lot of satire news in many sites who's talking about nonsense and fake world news to gain traffic and get paid through ads that's why google banning sites that's spreading fake news using their ads to gain money. that's a goodthing to stop those bastards creating hoax news just to gain income. source = https://www.theverge.com/2016/11/14/13630722/google-fake-news-advertising-ban-2016-us-election

To be economically literate person is not enough to read the news. You must be able to analyze them. I advise you to read the different analytical articles. They are also interesting information.
That's enlightening, any suggestions of those articles?

Bloomberg and Economist are good sites to get an idea about trends and economic news in general.
You can look at social media too, for real time updates.

I read both but find Bloomberg to be very slanted in their articles and not reliable for anything indepth or honest. Read it more to see what smear campaign the left are attempting to run.
Economist is great for whats going on in the world, usually I read it front to back but it does put me to sleep. Prefer to read these physically rather than websites.

Whatever sites you use make sure you are also following the opposite of that site is political viewpoint to balance out any propaganda.

I don't know about others, but I usually go to these two sites when I read global news. They usually have interesting tidbits, and it's not too dry to read.
http://www.bbc.com/news/business/economy
http://www.cnbc.com/world-economy/

As for bitcoin news, I either go on bitcoin. com https://news.bitcoin.com/
or on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/ sometimes both.
coindesk is ok as well. http://www.coindesk.com/news/

And, this one by crypto-news has really informative articles.  Grin https://www.crypto-news.net/
