You may go with the 5xx series better in my opinion if there is no big price diffrenece for better resell value and better power efficiency.

I'm planning on building a gpu rig to mine etherium (hoping for delayed PoS)

My current list stands as this:

Mobo:
ASUS H81-M Plus (4no. GPU connectivity)
Or
ASRock Z97 Anniversary (6no. GPU)

CPU:
Intel Celeron G1840 2.8ghz LGA1150

Risers:
XCSource 1x to 16x PCIe usb powered risers

Ram:
HyperX fury ddr3 4gb 1333mhz CL9

PSU:
Corsair - whatever power is needed for how ever many gpus i can afford

Hard drive:
Run Linux off 16GB USB drive

GPUs:
Sapphire nitro+ Radeon rx480 8gb
Or
Sapphire nitro+ Radeon rx470 4gb
(Which ever is cheapest (hopefully take a price drop when vega comes out??))

I'd probably start with 2 or 3 gpus and increase as funds allow

I'd very much appreciate people's thoughts on the above set up - I'd prefer to go with the asus h81 mobo just as it's cheaper
Has anyone used this mobo? Works okay with four gpus?
May well just go for the asrock to allow for future expansion

Thanks in advance for your comments and recommendations before I pull the money trigger

all my miners use these board (all of them 5x PCIe slot) priced around 30-50$
GA-MA770T-US3
GA-MA785GT-UD3H
GA-MA790FX-UD5
GA-EP45-DS5
GA-P43-ES3G
GA-EP43-US3L

put Athlon II X2 or any cheap AM3 CPU, choose atleast dual core processor as single threaded CPU need to interleave system task and mining task

if you are using Linux, 2GB DDR3 is enough with 8GB disk swap partition
and don't use USB Flash Drive as it will corrupt overtime (not designed to be 24/7 connected on constant read/write)
and don't use magnetic HDD as power cable interference and vibration will damage the data
instead buy cheap 16GB SSD drive (search for SSD DOM SATA)

Sapphire Nitro RX470-8G if you can still found one, or Sapphire Pulse 580-4G if not

PSU EVGA 1000GQ is cheapest and optimum one on price and performance (for 5x GPU)

if you can find the asrock h81 pro btc is better, otherwise go with a better cpu from skylake generation and a 1150 socket motherboard, asus prime motherboard is very good can support many gpu if configured right
psu i suggest the rm series the 1000 watt should be enough, they are very reliable and use a wattage software, can be helpful to check the consumption
