I am not understanding why you have the ducts going through the doorway. Are you going to step over them?

If for example, you are exhausting 120 degree air through those ducts they are going to be HOT, ie burn yourself HOT.

an easier example would be to put the fan by the door, and then blow the air through the cards into an evase as it escapes the room. So shift the miners to be toward the back wall.

Remember that hot air rises, take advantage of that.

You are saying that I don't even need the ducts and trash can at all?  Just pull the hot air out through ceiling and then pipe fresh air down low?

I didn't draw the pic very well.  The drawing represents me standing in front of the room looking in (not a top down view).  The door is right in front of me as I look into the room.  I have to open it to look in.  The fresh air 1.5 x 1 hole is on the back wall.

yeah that works.

I thought you were using the ducts to lower the sound as the gear is very loud

4) I've purchased a 1200 cfm fan which will sit on top of the upside down trashcan.  I will cut a hole in top of the trashcan and fan will pull air through hole and vent through flex duct and out the side of the house.

Why a trash can?

Virtually all non-metal trash cans are made of polypropylene.  This is the most annoying substance on the face of the earth because absolutely no glue will stick to it except for an insanely-overpriced two-part epoxy from 3M that costs $120 per tube.  JB Weld claims one of their products can glue polypropylene but I know from firsthand experience this is a lie.

Anyways.  Don't try to make DIY stuff out of anything involving polypropylene, you'll be kicking yourself as soon as you realize you need to glue something somewhere.

I appreciate the suggestions to not use a trashcan, but unfortunately, I already purchased 5 saddled air-tite take-offs from home depot (which fit a cylinder shape).  Also, the bottom of the trashcan is very rigid, and I wanted something really strong to hold the weight of the fan.  Plenum probably could have served that purpose too.  Anyway, I did find this Loctite glue for $3 at Home Depot.  It does look like you have to use the activator first on polypropylene.  Hopefully that works.  If not, I will take back the trashcan and the saddled take-offs and go w/ plenum.

The set up you are going for looks like you have been taking the advice given to heart.

The opening you are going to use for cooling, will provide enough restriction free intake air to match the discharge air from your original idea and still has a large enough area to match Phillipma1957's idea for an increased exhaust duct of 16".

On paper you don't really need to upsize, to that large of a pipe or fan for exhaust. Your exhaust fan and the Miner fans will work together to move the air to your "tank" and outside, but with the 1200 CFM fan you are cutting it close as it is nice to know that it can handle the total required air exchange for the miners and the room; but without knowing the total length of run or how many 90's the piping will make or your future plans for expansion, it's not a bad idea to oversize all of your piping and the Exhaust fan for your ventilation needs. Considering you are already biting the bullet on setup costs, one should ask "why not spend a little extra to make sure you have a nice reliable system in place with room for growth?"

Definitely a good idea to go to the recommended sizes right off the miners as, these things have been learned through experience. Also the piping restrictions on airflow can cause issues; so bigger is better to some extent.
Just a note when you say insulated duct, you are referring to something rigid? as the exhaust fan's suction could cause collapse in anything that isn't rigid.

By the way good job on the planning and questions.

If your final vent is to the outdoors then you will need to consider overcoming barometric pressure change as well as wind velocity by direction. Which could at times cause your vent fan to stall. Many attic vent fans actually build in stall clutch compensations for these conditions to prevent the motor from burning itself up. The stall pressure is sometimes included in the specs.

Thanks for the good thoughts.  Here are my responses to questions raised:
1) There is a 1.5 x 1 foot opening in the back of the closet where a 1600 watt wine cooling unit was installed.  I'm going to remove that because it sucks a ridiculous amount of power. I was tempted to use it it for cooling, but that's just too much power.  So, all fresh air will come in through that opening.

2) Phillip- from our earlier conversations, I was under the impression that each Avalon 741 miner puts out 200 cfm.  200 x 5 miners = 1000 cfm.  My fan will remove 1200 cfm and then I will have a small fan pushing in fresh air through the 1.5 x 1 opening.  Why wouldn't this work?  The larger 10" duct coming from the miners makes sense.

3) The door will not be kept open to cut down on noise.  Also, the walls of the wine room have some special insulation which also cuts down on noise.  I haven't received the 1200 cfm fan yet, so I am a little worried about how loud that will be.

Going to bed now.  I will post pics soon.  Thanks again.

2). The tubes restriction of air flow is somewhat reduced by expanding from 6 to 10. And from 10 to 16

But even the larger vents cause restriction.  So 5 x 200 = 1000. It is possible that 20 percent jump to 1200 cfm works. If the air travels say under five feet.  But you have it move from the miners to the garbage can to the fan and then to exhaust .  So I rather you use 1600 not 1200.

Oh as I type I realized you can a plenum box from homedepot rather then a plastic garbage can.

It is around fifty bucks. Two ft cube.

Are you expecting to leave the doorway completely open? The air that is being exhausted at whatever rate, must come from somewhere, is that through an open doorway? Any noise generated inside the room will almost certainly "escape" into the area outside the doorway, or through the walls of the room. Is that OK for you?

Do you have it worked out to supply the roughly 6000W that you'll need to run 5 miners? I assume folks more knowledgeable on the Avalon will adjust that number up or down, so don't take the 6000W figure as gospel, just a starting point.

if he sets to -2  he would be more like 5100-5300 watts

a 30 amp circuit should be enough

de rate to  24 x 240 = 5760 watts  is the 80% derate number.

I think they will unfortunately overheat. Could you just leave your asics on the shelf and make one nice hole in the wall?

if he uses his size duct work and his size fan he will over heat.

if he uses  the  sizes I gave him I think it will not overheat.

I'm about ready to start construction to convert my unused wine room into a bitcoin mine.  I've posted a lot before, but here's a recap:
1) Converting a 5' x 5' unused wine room into my home mine.  Ceilings are 8'.
2) The room is right next to an outdoor wall, so I will be venting heat up through one hole in ceiling and out the side of the house using a combination of plenum between joists and 10" insulated flex dropping from ceiling into room.
3) My 5 Avalon 741s will sit on a wire shelf and push heat through hoses onto an upside down rubber trashcan.  I will cut holes in trashcan and add take-offs.  6" ducts will go from each miner to 1 take-off on the trashcan.
4) I've purchased a 1200 cfm fan which will sit on top of the upside down trashcan.  I will cut a hole in top of the trashcan and fan will pull air through hole and vent through flex duct and out the side of the house.

PLEASE HELP ME FIND ISSUES WITH THIS PLAN or just comment on what you think of it.  I am attaching a pic so you can visualize.  Thanks again for all your help.  Yes, I draw like a 3rd grader, and yes my wife hates me now.
