This has been interpreted to mean that we do not accept "artificial" currencies
Artificial... As opposed to what? Natural organically grown currencies, no hormones no chemicals? Free-range dollars?

Just because one country or another throws their weight behind something doesn't make it "natural"

You are preaching to the choir.

I know, I'm just imagining a literal money tree and protesters arguing over what fertilizer to use on it... Thought it was a fun mental image that deserved sharing Wink

There is more to Bitcoin than bitcoins.

Just because Jesus is now seen as a superhero, doesn't mean the people at the time weren't completely in their right to think he was a fucking idiot dancing around saying he was the son of god.

I agree with nmat. Don't follow money. Let money come to you.

Just don't make Bitcoin look bad (i.e. don't be annoying).

lol, yeah, if bitcoin looked bad people would probably take lots of money out of it and crash the price.  We don't want that.

Bitcoin is in its early stages of development and not even the developers recommend that you put money into it. We have years ahead of us to mature the software and trim the edges.

It is perfectly understandable that Wikipedia does not want to accept Bitcoin right now. They might accept it in the future though (unless you piss them off so much that they don't want to hear about it ever again).

I just sent the following email:

Hello,

I was looking at http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Fundraising

and I would like to make a $1,000.00 donation via Bitcoins.
I'm sure lots of other people all around the world are also interested in donating via bit coins.

Tony at www.Bit-Pay.com can set everything up for you so that people can donate via bit coins,  and you can receive a wire for USD in your Bank account the very next day after each bit coin donation.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or if there is anything else I can do to help,

$1,000 isn't a huge amount of money,  but hopefully it is enough to make them at least consider it.

Roger I emailed them as well offering to make a personal donation if they get setup with bitcoins.  So far no response.

Is that even possible at this point?

I got a response saying that they don't have the capacity to accept Bitcoin. I offered to set it up for them myself and gave them three different solutions to start accepting Bitcoin. I will not rest until I see a Bitcoin address on the wikimedia donation page. Smiley
