Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
What's the status of this? I live in joplin and am curious.

I just visited http://blockchain.info/address/1Kxe8iY2JxYzdJT1Pe4pzKBng6AeDkzWE8 and I can't believe all the money that was donated to this worthy cause.

Here's a suggestion for you.  Contact the EFF, and see if they will set up a Bitcoin address for Red Cross donations.  They seem to want to support the Bitcoin concept, so maybe they would do it.

Seems like that's worth a shot. Meanwhile, donations can be directed to the address I provided.

People were much more eager to donate back when the Japan earthquake happened, perhaps because the BTC wasn't quite as valuable as it is now, and there wasn't as much paranoia going around :b

And we are just supposed to trust that you will donate?

Well, this is the second such fund raiser I've set up, the last time I was still new so I didn't handle the funds, but yes, I was going to attempt to handle this one personally. The Japan earthquake didn't hit close to home but I still felt the need to call upon the community to do something if they desired, but this disaster does hit close to home since I have family and friends there. I don't make much BTC myself but I'm mustering every cent I can manage.

Hey guys, once again I call upon the Bitcoin community to stand up and lend a helping hand to our fellow man. A few months ago when the tsunami hit Japan I helped organize a fund raiser to help them out overseas, and you guys came through in fine style.

As many of you know, on Sunday a very strong storm system swept through Kansas, Missouri, and Louisiana, causing tons of damage, flooding, and leaving many people without power. Joplin, Missouri got the worst of it, with an F5 tornado flattening about 6 miles of land and leaving 124 people dead. Many people are without power and basic needs, and temporary shelter is overwhelmed. It has been declared a disaster area and federal aid has been dispersed to the area.

Many of the families in the area are in need of clothing and shelter, that's why I'm calling on you to help out and donate whatever you can spare, and the funds will be dispersed to an NPO in Joplin. I've already made a couple of phone calls, since I know some people in the area, and it seems like Goodwill is really trying hard to provide clothes to the people whose homes were destroyed, so I was thinking of making the donation to Goodwill. I'd like to hear your thoughts as to any other organizations which may be a better choice to make donations to.

I've set up an address to take donations at, and the funds will be dispersed once an agreement has been made on which organization would best make use of it to benefit the people who've been affected by the storm.

Thanks and God bless,

Edric

Funds will be handled with 100% responsibility.
