You still gotta deal with the rules imposed by the TLD registrar

That explains why the shadier stuff and spam comes from .somethingIhaven'theardof

Trading of illegal goods is forbidden on this forum.

Right, I read that but it's ok to link to sites that trade in illegal goods.
I'm not sure if that's a fine line or if that's totally ok in the mind of the ISP / internet community.

Also it says  illegal in buyer/sellers country if I remember right. If a guy in Amsterdam wanted to sell some hash (marijuana not a mining contract) to his buddy I'm assuming he'd be allowed to despite being illegal where the server is hosted (US I think)

These days even linking to torrent files can see you site get shut down if you refuse to censor your users.

Yeah most everyone here is against moderation but it beats getting your site shut down. Of course I would imagine there are hosts out there that don't care.

So long as we don't make bitcoin.org all about buying illegal items. We'll be fine.

Public websites generally have legal protections against their members' actions.

I am sure the owners are mighty busy with all of their other endeavors involved with running bitcoin.

They could not be held responsible in the event that somebody sold some drugs through their forum.

For the same reason that youtube cannot be held responsible for distributing copyrighted content. Even though it's all over youtube.

All you have to do as a website owner is take it down within a "reasonable" amount of time.

That, or host it in Somalia.  Cool

Good question. Who hosts it?

Whois shows that the server is hosted by Slicehost, and the domain is registered through Anonymous Speech. The DNS is hosted by ZoneEdit.

What are the policies of the hosting company that holds the forum and the tld registrar regarding the exchange and/or comerce of illegal stuff? Is there the risk the forum will be wipped or taken offline due to them noticing people are dealing with such things on the forum?
