Had 500 BTC on there, 200 of which were mine.  A friend got me to cash them all out in September.  Very grateful about that still.

I had an account but nothing in it.  Now there are a couple other exchanges that if they did the same I would lose something, not a ton but something.  I felt like Gox demonstrated pretty clearly that they should not be patronized a long time ago.

From 118 votes, we have 61 saying zero. Even supposing they're telling the truth :-), they're just like the other billions of people around the world who didnt have any goxBTC. Those are not 51% of anything. At the most, "51 % of this forum readers who have opted to vote, say they had zero at Gox".

I d suggest changing the poll to eliminate the option zero, for no matter how many vote for that, there are still 850K BTCs inside Gox and the poll would better point out how much each voter had... Agree? :-) Or a 2nd poll: how much did you lose (with percentages) and how many say they didnt at all.

Recalculating that as of today we have:

61 say I didnt! =:-)

57 say I got goxxed ;-P
and from these
Less than 5 BTC   - 17 ...... (29.8%)
5 - 10 BTC   - 4................. ( 7.0%)
10 - 100 BTC - 20.............(35.1%)
Over 100 BTC  - 12 ..........(21.1%)
I lost BTC, but don't want to say how much   - 4 (7.0%)

So... from the 850K BTC, 56% of the people lost 10 BTC or more. And 30%, less than 5 BTC. These are the numbers that count, IMHO. Smiley

I started at bitcoin.de
Went to bitcoin24 and got trapped there. Luckily my stack was in bitcoin and I was able to withdraw them a few weeks later.
I tried the verification at Gox, but they complained it not being complete so I went to BTC-e

But the exchange amount never exceeded 5% of my total amount.

Lost 1.2.

Not a big deal, but annoying nonetheless.

0.

It took ages for me to get verified there. So, I decided to just use other exchanges with lower fees and faster verification. Gox's incompetence luckily saved me or otherwise I may have been goxed as well.

hope you also decide not to store them online  Wink

I'd like to get a rough idea of how many people were really impacted by the Mt Gox fiasco. I know we hear from a lot of people that lost money, but I wonder if there are few people affected that are just really noisy because they are justifiably angry.

The media throws around numbers like BTC800k missing, and to read this board or Reddit, you'd think that half of all people in Bitcoin lost something to Gox.

Feel free to comment below. Is Mt Gox really a big deal? Or a crisis manufactured by the media and rampant rumor mongering?
