Not trying to be a fudster or anything, but yeah, this review just seems like a formality almost to cement the original rejection decision. Like them saying not just "No," but "Hell No!"
Maybe they tought that BTC would be done for when they denied it. Now we will reach a news ATH in the upcoming days. They cant ignore Bitcoin anymore, its getting to big

unless you think those who rejected ETF are a bunch of kids that just were born into the world of economy then no, that assumption is wrong Smiley
I have to admit that thats the perfect description about the SEC that I have in mind. But maybe they are a lot smarter then we think. SEC Devils masterplan. 1: Lets decrease the price by denying COIN ETF. 2 : lets bulk load cheap BTC. 3: Lets 'review' the our decision. 4 : Hmm lets accept it because Expert team really understands BTC and the Winklevoss ETF. Easy peasy lemon squeezy  Wink

Yeah, I can see that. They thought their rejection of bitcoin would shut it down or deal some kind of death blow, idk. Afterwards, they realized, Bitcoin (and bitcoiners) don't give a sh!t and will continue to keep on keeping on regardless. The ETF may have figured, if we can't beat them, we can at least try to regulate them to some degree. I guess.
True. We dont need an ETF but the SEC needs BTC. I cant wait untill the day when they have finished their review.

But for me they will look stupid if they approved in their review right? They already rejected and seems to me the review will end up the same. I think bitcoin is just fine without ETF, price is really increasing and everyone is happy. Cash is continuing to flow into the bitcoin ecosystem so again we are all good without the ETF.

Bitcoin is getting regulated worldwide, so i wont be surprised if SEC approves it this time to regulate BTC.

They will in my opinion. Look how booming localbitcoins is. They want to regulate the kapital or otherwise they will (wallstreet) totally lose control. They cant allow that so they will accept it. Thats just my guessing when you think as the SEC itself

I will not get approved. See it as this; your ETF has been disapproved, and you don't agree with it - you'll have an option to ask for a review. From there it's up to the SEC to grant you a review or not, and in this case, they did. If you look at the reasons for the SEC to not allow their ETF to come through, it is pretty obvious that they don't stand a single chance. I personally find the SEC to be a non entity, but according to them, they look to protect investors. Due to Bitcoin's free market nature, they can't 'guarantee' a decent level of protection, and thus it's basically a no go. In order to raise their chances, the Winklevoss twins have to properly insure all their fund holdings - otherwise it will be a wasted attempt.

It is really interesting to see that SEC is once again reviewing the approval of ETF and this might be the first time they are reviewing too soon and so i do hope the chances of approval are really high and if that is the case only god knows what the price would be ,really thrilled to see how the review works.

I think that we will get an approval this time.
Why would they reconsider it if they are sure that denial was the right decision?
They let 1 man decide if it was a go or no go.
It will get approved because they want to regulate BTC because they see its true power now.
Their FUD machine didnt work, Bitcoin cant be stopped.

There is a whole team thats going to analyze if a Bitcoin trust is a good idea.
If The SEC aproves it, than even 1 or 2 BTC's will make you very wealthy.

Deadline is on march 13, not march 11.

Thanks for the update. It would be funny to see the people who do not pay attention to get excited on Saturday then finding out that the decision will be the following Monday.

We forgot that some US government offices are closed during Saturdays and Sundays. The update is posted in Bitcoin.com's news site.

I think it's going to happen this time around. It just seems like bitcoins have taken such huge strides in recent history so they're proving to be viable.

Viable to who? I do not think it is unless you are a dark market user or something like a ransomware hacker. The banks also refuse to acknowledge its importance. They even banded together to support R3 in creating a blockchain for them. Which failed in case you did not know.

People are definitely interested in bitcoins and this is an easy way in.

But what kind of interest? If their interest is speculative, then that is no good for Bitcoin unless you care so much to make fiat money.

I meant to be able to buy shares of the etf. Not to be able to buy bitcoins.

So if it's approved, when would the etf be listed on the exchange? On the same day? Or would it take more time?

If the winklevoss etf is approved on March 11, when will we be able to buy it? March 11th? or is there some time before it's up and running?
The news is not meant for you to wait for the day to buy it.

"The critique, courtesy of former Gemini general counsel David Brill, is particularly relevant as his old employer’s last and final deadline to receive approval for the experimental product is on 11th March." according to the site

All other comments on the page seem not to support the approval, not even in recent years

up until last month people were saying China controls bitcoin. price was rising.
then Chinese exchanges were under investigation price fell but it kept going up right after
then Chinese exchanges were shut down and price kept going up.
then with China out of the picture now it is time for US and their ETF nonsense. price still going up.
then ETF will fail/approve price falls and then right after it keeps going up.

in a couple of weeks it is again some other crap to make people occupied while price just keeps going up and whales accumulate.

I think ETF will be approved since they can't ignore bitcoin's technology for it was being research by many institutions interested in blockchain. I think that if it is approved, there will be a stable and good healthy pump that will occur instead of a crazy pump from 1200$ beyond 2000$. I think it wouldn't happen to pump like that in a day since they will not all buy at the same time.  Smiley

All we have is the reaction to the news. Now that it gets closer, there are arguments that it cant be on a Saturday(March 11), work cant be done. Possibility on March 13. The parties involve, what is there influence in US, That they are looking for what to invest in, to compete with facebook, since they could not get facebook.  There are believes that there is still gap on adopting it, and has not spent enough time to get approved. What is assuring is, if it misses this approval, it will still get it later.

The ETF will not be approved and the price will drop slightly before continuing uptrend.

I cant see a dump coming at all tbh.

This is what I believe is going to happen as well.
ETF will get rejected. Then the price drops to 900, 800 in worst case.Followed by a bounce back up to 1000.
And then the next following months we will go for higher highs, as long as nothing shitty happens.

I believe the Winklevoss brothers have already expressed that they are not very optimistic about its approval. If it does gets denied I do not think there will be a big crash in price. There might be some selling though.

Any source for that?
Because if that would be indeed the case I'm pretty sure the market would have already shown some serious reaction.

Poll about ETF on 11 march. What is your choice?

I think we can see a small growth after ETF decision.
But if get a refusal is not a great problem, the value of btc is intrinsically even without any other instruments related.

I agree, Bitcoin is undervalued anyway, even without the ETF.

I cant see it happening yet though, the scaling issue will be a concern now that all the blocks are full and transactions are taking many hours for confirms, and then there is the matter of storing the BTC securely.

I believe it will happen but it will not be happening yet. Maybe by the end of 2017.

what the hell does "wringling" man i can not find the meaning online Cheesy

and in case it means something like shakeout of weak hands then i will vote for that. because if believe if the SEC disproves of ETF then there will be lots of dumps and then panic sellers start selling their coins to whales just like every other thousands of times before.
and eventually after a short time bitcoin will be back on track.
so long term i vote for green option and short term the red. and black is just trolling Cheesy

Here correct word must be WRANGLING

What does it mean to wring hands?
hand·-wringing. noun. Hand-wringing is defined as an expression of worry or concern. An example of hand-wringing is the pacing and constant twisting of the hands of a person waiting to see if a business deal has gone through

How about the option that is gets approved and the approval causes a selloff due to the well known Wall Street adage, "buy the rumor, sell the news."

+1

I think this will happen.

and how this si making any sense? they are currently buying because of the approval of the EFT, selling when this will happen is as stupid as fuck, and doesn't collide with what the buyers are doing now

besides all those that think that without EFT the value will tank, again, they are also wrong, this price climbing is not only about that, like it was not about grexit, not about chinese etc...

can't bitcoin simply grow because of better adoption? it look stupid to me that bitcoin need a good news to being able to grow decently each time...

Whether approval or disapproval, BTC will keeps on increasing over time, these ETF things going since 2013 and it's already disapproved many times in past. We will see only $150-170 dump in price then it will make correction soon within a week if ETF gets disapproved.

Here's what I expect. When ETF was approved, we might experience a slow and steady rise which is more likely to happen when ETF gets approved. new investors I think wouldn't go in to bitcoin at the same time some might buy early some might buy late. When it was rejected though I am expecting some dump in sub 1000$ or if we are lucky it will go down just near 1000$ price.

I'm pretty sure that US Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) will accept the Winklevoss bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) on the date, because there are some people had spread the leaked news about ETF approval. Current price as the proof, it will still climb up slowly even though some traders sell out their bitcoin but more investors has joined the market I guess, maybe they know what we don't know.

I believe the ETF will be accepted, since bitcoin and the blockchain is being pushed ever so slightly into the mainstream. Large banks like Wells Fargo are looking into it, and rejecting the ETF would be like saying 1+1 doesn't equal 2.

I would prefer bitcoin not to be included in funds.
Sure, first they would buy. But once they see the price drop a little they would all sell again.
And then we have one of those panic selling scenarios that brings a lot of other people to sell who would not do it  under other circumstances.
Bitcoin can grow without funds like it did the past years. It might not grow that quick, but I think the price will be much more stable without funds.

What I want is a big YES, to the moon and beyond. But that is me hoping for the best. Whatever happens to ETF approval, I am prepared to face the effect. Whether it push to the moon or drop to hell, I will just react and make profit whichever way it goes. ETF getting disapproved is not the end of bitcoin, sure it can push bitcoin further up but it is no way it can drag it down if it gets disapproved.

Maybe not, but there will be rare a dump, bitcoin is very stable now, and not scared by PBOC, therefore refuse ETF won't affect the price a lot, 1000 USD can't be broken.
In my believe the bitcoin will get red candle after 11 march and i think in this time bitcoin si different with the previous bitcoin. With strong support and more demands and it will never below $1000. I believe it.

Whether this ETF by the Winklevoss twins gets approved or not, bitcoin is going to soldier on. Talks has been going on for years regarding this and bitcoin has more than lived up to the expectations of those who invested, especially in its earlier years. If  evenutally this ETF gets approved, bitcoin would just be made available to more people, again as an investment, through the brokerage firms.

how can any of us know this?! this is just a random question that keeps being asked and people just say random stuff.
there is both a chance for its approval and not approval and as far as us with no insider information are concerned ETF is too small to have any effect on global and decentralized bitcoin.

I have no idea but I wanted to bet on it being approved.  I do not want to see Bitcoin being dump heavily decreasing its price greatly.  An approval can simply means profit to the investors (all holder investors) and I wanted that to happen not just some investors who shorted their position and wish of ETF diaproval.

It will most likely get approved.  Question is how long till trading starts.  I expect $2,500 per coin  before it starts trading.

Neither approved nor disapproved March 11, it's a Saturday.    Tongue

I did pick disapproval.

Mother of all rallies if approved, maybe $1500, then back down to low $1200-1300.  Why?  Because this is only one step in the process and it will take years to actually hit the exchange.

If disapproved, crash hard then a good 50% rebound.  I have a lot of lowball bids to catch the falling knife.

How about the option that is gets approved and the approval causes a selloff due to the well known Wall Street adage, "buy the rumor, sell the news."

I was thinking no
But you know, i'm personally sure that in the future an ETF must be in, and if the SEC doesn't approve, i see a missed opportunity for them and the US market,
Moreover you can't really know how this administration say yes or no on cryptocurrencies issues, they are so in the past.

But let's the speculation go and see the future

PS: https://www.bitmex.com/app/trade/COIN_BH17 they peaked at 70% today i think the speculation is just starting

There are two possible scenarios that I am expecting. ETF approved means a rise maybe steady or a burst that would depend. ETF not approved(looks more likely) means a dump I am hoping that we don't fall below $1000 atleast.

It might fall below $1000. But it will rebound soon after.

I voted that the ETF will very likely be rejected and a dump is going to happen after that.
But that is no doom event as some try to point it out here in several threads. I would guess these guys wanna take profits and advantage of the coming situtation go a bit short as well plus some orders already placed in a certain range.
I'm sure we will bounce back pretty fast. So if you wanna get some coins for a cheaper price it could be smart to place some buy orders. With a bit of luck they will get triggered. But don't be too stingy. Orders between 800-900 should get triggered easily.

If ETF and SEC rejected about bitcoin is danger bitcoin future
because all USA exchanger can close, poloniex bittrex and coinbase can close service exchanger
ia affect bitcoin price can crash and hard down price
I dont expect it to affect bitcoin for long, It was meant to be a better platform if it was approved. Am very sure all exchangees dont rely so much on that, work will go on as usual, so we just expect a better days. Just that demand for bitcoin will plummet for a while but trade in altcoin will be a consolation.

Really surprised to see that everyone is expecting a massive dump of coins after the verdict if people are sure about it then why is the price is hovering at this range . I did not understand about the time limit.can you please clarify that.

They initially set themselves a time limit about making the BATS rule change last year. If I remember rightly they allowed themselves three extensions of that time limit.

Once the final extension is up, which is this one, they have to make a decision. If they don't announce a decision by then then it's a yes by default. Weird setup.

Polls don't matter and are misleading. Donald Trump won against all odds, Brexit happened against all odds, so why can't the ETF happen against all odds too?

Also some people forget that if the time limit is hit without either approval or disapproval the ETF gets automatically approved (im not sure if this has ever happened before but its another possibility)

Automatic approval has never happened. It be flabbergasted if it did happen with something with so many unknowns.

I suppose people are speculating with more agility because it's down to a few stuffy bureaucrats rather than entire populations. I wonder what they'd think if they had a perusal of the feverish speculation going on in pockets of the internet. The scale of it must be a first for them.

Wait, what? You knew that SEC rejected ETF applicatin many times before? Winklevoss tried to establish their ETF since 2013.
I didn't see any negative effect, no exchange was closed, effect on price was minimal if any.
Why we should suddenly expect different outcome this time? Because hype is high and we have idiots who think ETF is life or death for BTC?

I think if the ETF is rejected we'll dump below $1000 unfortunately. It wouldn't be a great thing to happen but then it would be a great time to buy.

Nothing but death and destruction awaits us all.

Other than that considering the amount of activity with amendments and meetings and so on, I don't think there's any way of guessing. Some people seem to think it's a gloomy sign. It looks reactive and constructive to me.

Poll about ETF on 11 march. What is your choice?

I choose "no,we are all going to die".It`s the only true answer. Grin
We are all going to die sooner or later with or without this ETF approval.Nobody is immortal. Grin
This is the 1789th thread about this ETF thing, why do people care so much about it?
I don`t expect a revolution,if bitcoin gets etf approved.
