In 2017 90% in altcoins, now I try to focus more on Bitcoin. It was one of my biggest mistake in my life, that I believed altcoins so much. Now, it is time to get lesson from it and cumulute as many BTCs as possible before next bull run.  Wink

I have always known Bitcoin as the best coin to hold all the time, and as such 70% of my funds goes to it while the remaining 30% I spread over major altcoins with a good portion going to Ethereum and the rest to other altcoins such as XLM, ADA and BNB. As for new coins, am still being careful not to get trapped since it's obvious a lot of them don't have anything to offer and with the nature of things both in the crypto space and in the world, one needs to be careful.

I hold 70% of BTC and ETH while 30% of the leftover are altcoins. Yep, ETH to me is not in the altcoins category. 30% of altcoins usually have a shitload of trash coin in it but I long time hodl of ChainLink and Wave.
I think 30% is too much for altcoin at this stage. You should focus more on Bitcoin and ETH because their current prices are too low and you should buy as much as possible. Altcoins are hard to grow at this stage because because bitcoin and the market keep crashing, you could lose more if you invest in altcoins.

You invested on the number 1 and number 2 coin in the market, that's a good strategy as these two coins are strong coins which has a great potential in the future. Putting 30% of high risk altcoins is a good strategy too as there are a lot of almost worthless altcoins in the past that has pump during the altcoins season, and we might experience it again, if not this year then maybe in the following years but I'm sure it will come.

I already voted, and saw that most people are with the same range as me
BTC - 70% of my portfolio and the rest, 30% are altcoins, but only top altcoins like ETH, XMR and LTC

I don´t hold any obscure altcoin since I lost some money and it's very hard to keep updated about every coin you own

Very good, mine is getting to 30% but I don’t think it’s ever going to get passed that level. And I’m always very careful with the coins I choose. I don’t make use of coins that seem like they are not worth it.When I am choosing coins to invest my choice is always on the top ten to twenty list, and I hardly go for anything below that.

Though there are some coins I would see and when later on they will move from a lower position to the top list. Just like ChainLink, when I started investing in it, it wasn’t much of a trending but was quite moving and then I picked interest and bought it and along the line it started moving up real quick and now it’s at the top ten list.

I can't even remember the last time I bought an altcoin. I don't want to check right now because I know that it's still in deep waters  Cheesy
I don't plan on adding more to what I already have. Everything is still riding on bitcoin's back so I don't see any sense in buying other cryptos at the moment. I'm seeing plenty of good looking altcoins with cheap prices and some of them are about to make a move according to some TA's but all analysis on these altcoins will go straight to the garbage every time bitcoin's price goes down.

27 votes in and honestly i would have believed that people are mostly in altcoins, especially under altcoin discussion. Even when if it wouldn't be a wise choice right now,

Given the market is 63.8% in Bitcoin right now, I think it makes sense that Bitcointalk user are also 50%+ in Bitcoin.
The real question is whether this will change or not.

Personally, I do have investment on altcoins but not as big as what I have invest on Bitcoin. For me I have seen more potential profit in Bitcoin compared in oder crypto, though there are some alts who can gives more profit however, it would be risky knowing that you cannot anticipate what coins would be successful. Therefore, I only place small amount of percentage in Altcoins and the rest will be placed on top cryptocurrency which is Bitcoin.

I voted for 75 percent altcoins since that was I'm doing now. I'm currently holding nine kinds of altcoins and Bitcoin but I have many more altcoins that I earn from the bounty campaigns that I was promoted but I think it's almost useless since most of it is not yet listed to any exchange so there's no liquidity at all. the total breakdown of my holdings is 75 percent of total altcoins base on value and 25 percent Bitcoin base on value. I was bought my altcoins during the early quarter of 2019.

The essence of diversification is to reduce risks and maximize profits by investing in assets of various kinds. A similar mechanism works well in the stock market;
however, the cryptocurrency market is somewhat different from the stock market and, as we can see, the secondary market for alternative coins is not independent.

In other words, depending on the price of bitcoin, we see one or another dynamic position of alternative coins, that is, there is almost no difference between alternative coins in the framework of diversification. Therefore, you will get the best result if you invest in alternative coins no more than 20 - 30% of your capital is desirable in one thing.

I sold most of my alts back in 2018, so my portfolio doesn't have a large variety of different coins. However, during the past few days many of my remaining coins have gone up by up to 300%. For example, EBTC has gone up by 900% during the last two weeks. Deep Onion is another coin which has gone up during the last few weeks. It has gone up by 100% so far this week.

We can bet on altcoins at this point, but it's best not to bet on shitcoin because it will inevitably collapse as Bitcoin grows. It is better to invest in leading altcoins in this market because it will bring more security than other shitcoin.

I hold the majority of my crypto funds in Bitcoin, and I keep around 25-30% of the rest in Altcoins, though I would not say there's a fixed percentage of my portfolio consisting of alts because I manage it very often and the number can go down or up at any moment depending on my personal analysis. Of the alts that I own, none of them are what you might call lower-cap coins, and a few of them would be ETH, LTC and XMR. I've maintained largely the same basic portfolio setup since 2016, but it's been producing great returns for me consistently since then, so I see no reason why I should change it now.
You should never change your portfolio but you should try to add on some more beneficial coins. You are investing into cryptos since 2016 and from that time a number of potential coins have hit the markets which have also gained huge prices. You should have added those coins to your portfolio. Maybe you could devote 5 to 10% of your total capital into such coins and rest as your have already planned.

It is good to see that most of the people prefer holding majority of bitcoins in their portfolio. This is something which would be beneficial for the price of bitcoins as the majority of holders, the more demand it would get which would lead for a better price in the nearly approaching future.

I think holding low cap coins and tokens is not bad but you have to be patient because usually these alts are the last to move, personally i like to stay more and more in btc and eth only, recently i got some ada as well becuase i liked the project and prices were very attractive as well and i think it will continue its upward trend from here on, similarly i have like 10 to 20 percent of other alts and tokens which i consider risky holdings but in good bull run they can provide me with massive profits as well so they are worth holding as well.
Lower volume coins are easy to be manipulated and that is the main reason why I keep myself away from such lower cap coins. You might make profits from such coins if you are instant but mostly, you can see these coins drowning overnight which would not even give you a chance to sell those coins. That's why I prefer holding some of the top coins which have maximum volume.

Holding bitcoins is what usually every crypto enthusiast do because we all know the potential of bitcoins, but you should hold minimum amount of bitcoins if you have no intentions to trade with it regularly.

Bitcoins are already much costlier which would need to make a huge move in order to give us some profits but as compared to some lower price altcoins like XRP, etc these can give us good profits even if they move by few cents so diversifying majority of our capital into such coins can be beneficial for midterm profits. Bitcoins are always a great choice for long term profits.

To everyone who thinks altcoins have better ROI than Bitcoin, just remember, this is all possibility and none of it sustainable. Remember that Bitcoin fell at the lowest 15% of the ATH (3k from 20k). But altcoins I do not know a single one that even I owned that stayed above 15%,,, as much as I loved them all. So be wary is all I am saying.

Altcoins will bring better ROI for sure but they are risk investments when comparing to bit coin which offers more safer bet over altcoins, if you are willing to take risks its a good time to start accumulating top altcoins now
I think at this time everyone would want to make a risk on some good altcoin, because the market conditions are in good condition, so it is potentially able to benefit up to double the capital we invest.

No offense intended to the altcoin investors, but my portfolio is about 0-5% altcoins at the beginning of 2020, I've had to put all my capital meant for cryptocurrency into bitcoin investments as new altcoin projects fail incessantly and investors see their capital burn.

I do not intend to totally cast aside altcoins investments, the 5% i have are in the top altcoins and I'll buy very little more this year, just incase altcoins doing well in this year, as for new altcoins, till something good starts to come out of them, I'll not go close.

That's a decision you'll probably regret once the altcoin market explodes again. Bitcoin is the safest investment, no doubt - But it will NOT get you the highest ROI. Lately we've see a ton of altcoins explode in price, I made a nice 3x on my Blocknet, doubled up on ARK, and DASH doubled as well recently while BTC has been up and down.

Don't get me wrong, I hold BTC, but it's NOT the majority of my portfolio, why?

I'll tell you why. The BTC dominance moves in cycles, always been like that if you go through time. A low BTC dominance, means you need to get into BTC, and a high BTC dominance means you need to diversify. It's really that simple, and makes sense when you think about it.

BTC is a slow dinosaur, used as a speculative asset, sure it's got the most adoption of all projects out there, but it's really limited in terms of tech, and use cases.

Blocknet, which I'm a big fan of is a project I'm accumulating like a mad man right now, because it's such an undervalued project. DEX projects is popping up everywhere, and for good reason, everyone wants decentralization, and Blocknet offers EXACTLY that. Not only do they work on their DEX, but they also work on a decentralized oracle network, read more here: https://blocknet.co/xrouter-missing-link-between-all-blockchains/

A few partnerships, and it could easily fly into the top 50 on Coinmarketcap. We're talking a 50x in price movement here, something not happening with BTC anytime soon, even if being super optimistic.  Wink

For example, investors are imagining about ethereum to scale its previous peaks again but I believe it may not happen anytime sooner. Because it is already got it competitors and scaling again $1000 from its current price levels must be a very big task for it but bitcoin will easily set new ATH within this year. So, keep altcoins in low percentage to achieve good ROI.
This market does not follow fundamentals too much, it is true that ETH does not have the demand of icos as it had in the past and now there are many competitors but ETH has been going up tremendously during the last weeks and now it is close to have 9% of the whole market capitalization of this market, and it does not seem like it is going to stop, so if you have not done so already this could be a good opportunity to buy ethereum since most likely it will easily reach 400 dollars during this year.

Diversifying your portfolio along with altcoins must be a good idea but keeping altcoins at very low percentage will help anyone to achieve their dreams because there will be no guarantee for any altcoin to be performing like how bitcoin is expected to perform in its upcoming halving. I mean to say it will be always good to keep your altcoins less than 25% in your portfolio.

For example, investors are imagining about ethereum to scale its previous peaks again but I believe it may not happen anytime sooner. Because it is already got it competitors and scaling again $1000 from its current price levels must be a very big task for it but bitcoin will easily set new ATH within this year. Running this poll for a couple of months as curious to see how diversified people on here are in alts at the moment.

What percentage of your crypto portfolio is in Altcoins? Do you plan to increase or decrease this % this quarter?

With Bitcoin's incredible 2x rise in market dominance from 35% to above 70% in the past two years many believe alts will still never make a come back, others think that this market dominance is due a correction. With BTC dominance currently at 67%, this suggests that an equal-weighted (low risk) crypto portfolio would consist of 33%* altcoins (a third).

However, If you consider that 99% of the crypto projects will continue to die, then your low-risk weighted portfolio would probably be somewhere between 10-30%. Personally mine is around 15%, though looking to increase to about 20% next month, maybe 30% if things really start to get moving, but otherwise I'm being relatively conservative.

Feel free to shill your new & old bags, or coins you're considering buying.
As of right now I am not holding any altcoins, and my reasoning is simple bitcoin has been outperforming them during the last years, only during the most recent weeks we have seen a slight improvement on the performance of altcoins in general, this could be a good signal for altcoins and things may change, but with the halving so close I doubt it, so right now I do not see any point of getting out of bitcoin and getting altcoins in return, but if I see an even better performance from altcoins I may consider it.

This year might not be that good for the altcoins according to my study and it minimizes the number of altcoins from my portfolio.

I am actively trading with BTC and ETH and the number of profits bitcoins are giving me are comparatively greater than any altcoin and hence I prefer to invest in bitcoins first and then consider some of the major coins which actually follow bitcoins in any pump or dump which includes ETH, XRP, ADA, etc. These coins are giving me better benefits and hence I do not think that I should take any riskier step to add any other coins in my portfolio. Some altcoins might face the bearish trend which might even make them loose 50% of their original value.

It's good to see that the majority of the people here even if this is an Altcoin board still allocates the majority of their money to Bitcoin.

True story, looking at the total breakdown (only 18 votes so far), 55% hold upto 30% Altcoins.
With altcoin dominance at 33%, it seems on average people here are more or less in proportion with the market at the moment.

0% Shitcoins (5.6%)
0-10% Altcoins (27.8%)
0-20% Altcoins (44.5%)
0-30% Altcoins (55.6%)

And the truth is it's good to stay this way since it's too early for them to jump out of the price movement just to redistribute their money to altcoins especially when they are lagging when it comes to Bitcoin's movement. As for having an Altcoin season early in this Q1 of 2020 I don't see it from happening as long as Bitcoin isn't finish on completing any major retest in the next resistance level.

The amount should be divided into 4 parts.  40% for Bitcoin, 10% for altcoins that hosted IEO in 2019, 20% for longtime marketcap cryptocurrencies like LSK, ARK, STRAT, XLM ... and finally 30% for USDT.  That would be a way to ensure my money was used to its full potential.

Currently, it is about 100% but I am planning to add some Bitcoin on my list when I get more capital in the future. I spent all of it into 3 different projects which are TWINS, FIX and CURIO. The first 2 projects are projects that I am involved with, I spent my money on it as a form of my support because I believe everything will be paid off one day after looking at the progress and the product. Those 2 projects will not become another payment system but one of those will create its own DEX and the other one is creating a sim card for digital identity and security. My last altcoin is CURIO, I decided to spend my money on it after they made a featuring with Bloomberg a couple of days ago about Turning Supercars Into Digital Coins.

Seriously i'm only holding limited altcoins and I will never go fully on altcoins until bitcoin grows bigger than it's ATH, I find it very hard to believe that we will see 1000% growth from altcoins like we did in the past
Usually when the price for bitcoins reaches the peak, we could see most of the altcoins gaining demand and rising along with bitcoins.

So, you can actually make a purchase of your desired coins once the price for bitcoins start rising but you could not see any price fluctuations onto other altcoins. This might be a sign to invest in altcoins because they too would rise and settle onto peak if bitcoins does so.

Bitcoins are the first coin to experience a pump followed by other few altcoins and the major reason behind this according to me might be that people start selling their altcoins when they see bitcoins rising in order to accumulate maximum bitcoins and this would be the reason why most of the altcoins remain neutral or even get red in the times when bitcoins experience pump.

I will take a look at the first of the altcoin market before I diversified my investment in the altcoin because I already buy altcoin in the last year. But that will not stop if I can see the altcoin movements can grow in this year, I will buy more amount because the altcoin will have a chance to increase. Perhaps, 30%-40% will be enough to diversify the investment in the altcoin.

But I still try to make more bitcoin as I am sure that the bitcoin price will increase to a higher rate. I still searching for the best price for ethereum, litecoin, dogecoin, atom, and more because I see that coin also has a chance to increase. But I will not invest in that coin only because I see the other coin have the same thing as those coins.

I have been getting a big loss about more than 90% from my initial investment and this is how i diversify my investment to recover my lost that makes me get 3x return right now.
60% in bitcoin as my reserved funds and bet on the bitcoin halving.
40% to the altcoin which was having potential.
I just never try to invest in fork coin.

The result will depend on your choice whether it will make you able to recover or not.
I did it in 3 months to recover all of my losses.

I just try to deal with high-risk high returns.

Here is my portfolio:

Bitcoin: 93.92%
Bitcoin Cash: 5.13%
Ethereum: 0.58%
Other altcoins: 0.37%

There was a time when altcoins composed almost 30% of my portfolio. But I reduced the proportion in 2018, when it looked as if the Bitcoin dominance was increasing. I sold most of my altcoins and tokens, except BCH and ETH. And it looks as if I did the right thing. If I had held on to my altcoins, then my net worth would have been much lower.

My portfolio is consist mainly of bitcoin 75% of my investment is entrusted to btc. The remaining 25% is left for some major altcoins such as eth, xrp and bch. I know this is also a huge risk but I trust btc so much. I pick all major coins to be safe. I dont want to play games with some shitcoins or those new projects that lurking on the market. Yes there are some potential one but still a risky venture. But I am indeed investing on some major IEOs but its just for the ROI during its hype and now its gone. So focusing all my remaining to these coins.

I hold only 4.7% of my portfolio in alts, and I have a strong intention of reducing it to 0% as soon as I'll see a good pump. My ETH investment will be somewhat profitable, because the initial price was lower than the current price, but my XMR investment is currently at a 50% loss - I hope to at least break even some day, but I doubt it will happen, privacycoins got seriously cucked by all these regulations and AML crap.

70% of my crypto is BTC. 20% is held in select altcoins like DASH and ETH. The last 10% is held in lesser altcoins for the purpose of quick trades.

Likewise, when it comes to allocation or partitioning my funds here on crypto then i do only consider on putting 20% of my capital in alts and the rest would be purely on Bitcoin.

My alts held were on ETH and Monero.Im ready if these alts wont really succeed but basing up into its progress we can really see the potential of these coins or
rather stick to top ranking alts in the market. They are either good for short term scalping.

I would suggest 40% on the BTC and the remaining 60% on Altcoins since the BTC dominance is already very high which I feel the halving has already been priced in my top picks for the Altcoins would the exchange coins like BNB, OKB and in the non-exchnage coins segment Link, ETH, EOS and Tezos This is not the financial advice of any kind so please do your own research  Smiley

A few recent buys of mine are; $LINK $ENJ $XMR $TRX.
Others I'm looking to buy: $RLC $ATOM $XTZ $KNC $LTC
Some of these are intended as longer-term positions, others as shorter-term trades #stackingsats
