LTC -> BTC -> Silver!
Bought $40 worth as a one time thing (or so I thought.) I wanted use it to pay a bill when offered a 20% discount for using bitcoin. Now I'm in for $400 and will buy more. You can thank Bytesized Hosting for luring unsuspecting Bitcoin addicts into the fold.

Nearly $3k

Bought in at 9, 15 and 38 on the first bubble, kind of hurt when that slipped away suddenly.

Then due to bad trading and a few little cash outs, I'm a bit over double my investment as it stands

Now if we all calc how much time we spent dorking around with bitcoins compared to profit i imagine i have made about 1.20 an hour :-)
I value the education I've got from the experience as well. It's hard to put a price on that.

Haha, good point.

Goodvibes, could you clarify the poll?

A) is it the present value of your bitcoins?
B) is it how much you put in initially ?
C) is it how much you put in - what you cashed out?
D) ...

Bitcoin
Invested between 9k and 15k in mining and buying BTC !

Both are good investment so far.  Using BTC for goods and service, very little hoarding, no regrets !

Are we talking how much money we put in, or how much money it's worth now?

Big difference there Smiley

I think this poll refers to how much money everyone has put in

But isn't the decision to not cash out at $88 the financial equivalent to buying at $88?

I see no difference there Smiley

Sigg

I used same logic, as there was no negative cost basis (I have more fiat now than when i started, and a chunk of coins stashed away). I voted for the market value now. e.g. If I sold up I would have that amont of dollars, but Instead I choose to keep that amount of dollars in BTC

I put in about $4000 USD overall (combination of mining equipment & bitcoin purchases in 2011/2012).

A couple grand here invested in mining gear still chugging away.

No use crying over spilled milk thinking how much every coin you mined would be worth today. Better to think about the next goal or way to make money!  if i dwelt on evey time i should have held instead of sold my list would be endless. From collectibles, antiques, precious metals, stocks, etc... Any profit is good. Just keep trying. And sometimes selling was hugely smart. One never knows.

Who said anything about crying?

I never sold any coins until recently during the run up, but I'm thrilled with both the profit I currently have as well as the number of coins I'm holding on to long term.

My apologies. I was not referring to you. I was just talking out loud. I should have not quoted you.

I have invested a net of -$100, and I am a turbo-bull in the long term, flopping bear/bull on an hourly rate.

I wish I had invested in June of 2012 when I first considered. My friends and family talked me out of it.  Angry

Now I think it's a bit overpriced so I am waiting. I did pre-order a BFL Jalapeno though.

Then there would have to be a "negative" option.

I agree the poll question is not very clear. Huh

This is a could a/should a/would a post, but I've been using bitcoins as trade (for items/services) since I've started and not really been saving on to them.  So currently my btc value is slightly over $575 (at time stamp of this post).  Had I just kept them all, I'd be sitting at around $16,000 *sigh*

But I justify it by saying that I helped the economy by using the coins instead of hoarding them. Smiley
That is pretty rough.Lost some of mine doing the day trading thing but what I have retained has me smiling when I learned it was just better to hold.

true, but without using them, they have no real value and would crash at some point when people realize that.  So we gotta use them to help maintain their useful value Smiley

I wonder if the amount invested correlates to how bullish or bearish a person is  Tongue

No, it is related to net worth of a person more than anything. So you should've stated the poll in percentages.

Proof?

Nothing wrong with trading for a needed item/service. If it wasn't really needed, well then it just becomes a lesson in the value of savings, lol.

Shouldn't $0 be included in the less than $100 category?

Yeah but I just felt that someone having nothing invested in Bitcoin (and browsing this forum) is quite a statement, so it should have its own category. It is quite a bit of effort getting onto an exchange, wherever you are investing $1000 or $1, it still shows a large investment in confidence compared to sitting on the sidelines watching.

In my case, I would have much more invested, but I caught the ass end of the social stratum. I'm just glad I was able to pick my three btc up below 55 bucks. Figure I'll keep buying what I can until it breaks a grand.
