@TPTB_need_war (and the rest of you)

I am not sure you got my main point.. i don't care about "the scams" with this topic.

I am just trying to highlight how something that is INTENDED to be a currency vs something that is not
*may* benefit from being handled differently.

Hell this may actually be a more amicable result for the people pushing schemes like Ethereum for example.
When we seen the recent hype campaign unfold here half of all the comments
were nothing but a debate on whether it was a currency or not.

..which quickly led to people defending these "Alternative Use" schemes saying
that they too are "ALSO" currencies which then led to guys like me saying nope..
So there is a debate of sorts on that part of it all but THAT is not even my point here either.

Should all of crypto restructure and try and shift things to handling things more appropriately ?

All of these things are posted under the guise of being a "digital currency"
..even when they are not !

To be honest i don't care which ones are scam or not.
This topic was not created to try and accuse some projects of being scammy.

EDIT:
Think of this..
You go to an exchange and see "Crypto Coins" trading.
Well now we have guys launching "coins" as they say as a digital business tech stocks with out the ability for it to even be a currency in the first place.. ever !

And you guys don't see a problem and an inevitable conflict merging two type of things into one ?

For example this forum section is for Alternative currencies or is it the dumping ground for all crypto related schemes ?

The only troll here is you, you've been plaguing this forum for too long with your shitty attitude to anything of the altcoin world. Look at yourself, you're like a fly and the world is piles of shit to you, try the bee attitude, the world is full of flowers.

I am curious though do you always comment at people telling them you are not going to read what they said ?
Because i gotta admit that seems a fully fucking retarded  Cheesy

But is that bad? Honestly I have learned over the years that if no TLDR is added, most of the time (not always) the stuff is not worth reading.

If you add a little one sentence TLDR many more people will get your point. Smiley

I could not care less if you think my comment was too long noob.

Although philosophically I'd like to vote "yes", I voted "no" because the reality is the scams are the BTC economy:

Any way, I'd like to not see altcoins dominated only by get quick rich and not some serious attempts to fix Bitcoin's flaws and create a large adoption market. But the more I think about this, the more I realize if that ever happens it will be largely outside of this forum. This forum is a gambler's paradise. I need to remind myself that I we here are in an enclave.

At the moment, they don't really have any competition or at least any that markets their services very well.

Potentially another manipulated market such as the argument about Mt.Gox bubble upthread. We could be witnessing a cashing out from recent altcoin bubbles while buying from himself to create the illusion of a rising price while doing so as they ostensibly did for the ETH bubble, e.g. Vitalik using Coinbase to cash out from ETH -> BTC -> USD.

Free markets = decentralized markets.

When you have whales and most volume going through 1 or 2 exchanges, you don't have decentralized markets.

Nobody invests into BTC or mining equipment anymore. When did you bought ASICs valued 10.000 USD last time? Aren't those USD you now use to buy BTC just been taken from former BTC sales?

Bitcoin cannot do without Alts, both built up a complete whole economy. Remember people are not buying/selling anything using BTC, they just gamble on Alts. Basically I do agree on BTC up causing Alts going down and vice verse. Enclosed system like two water tanks with a flexible tube connecting them.

I agree the two go hand in hand. Since alt coins are really the biggest thing you can purchase with BTC, ...

This is true. Most people don't want to trade their BTC for a non-CC asset, because this their gambling money. They can't buy mining equipment with BTC to increase their holdings of crypto-currency. This is why ICOs have become more popular than mined distribution, with the ASIC resistant Monero as an exception.

ASICs killed the mining ecosystem. This has been r0ach's point, that if the coins don't circulate, then the ecosystem dies. Bitcoin is dying. Only the altcoin circulation kept Bitcoin alive.

Re: Bitcoin is the reserve currency of gambling?

Does gambling industry require a reserve currency in the first place ?

Gambling industry requires a currency that's wild and free. Like Bitcoin Smiley

Evidence the explosive growth of ShapeShift.io:

Since its inception in the Spring of 2014, ShapeShift has been an evolving creature. What began as a quick experimental way to swap between Bitcoin and Litecoin grew into an advanced engine for the effortless exchange of all major blockchain assets, each one into the other, with no user friction. No user accounts. No signup process. It is the Google Translate of cryptocurrency.

And we’ve always been playing catch-up. Trying to build at the speed of this industry, not only along the vertical of Bitcoin proper, but along the breadth of all crypto, is a challenge.

Last Fall, we realized the “minimum viable product” server architecture established originally for ShapeShift was insufficient. We needed a professional to join the small team, and craft a scalable, and secure, server apparatus upon which our technology could grow.

[...]

In the first quarter of this year, as the market discovered what we already knew – that our world will be one of many blockchain assets each needing liquidity with the other – exchange volumes surged at ShapeShift. Ethereum was on the rise, specifically. Our infrastructure was not ready for the pace of growth. It was like riding a bicycle upon which jet engines suddenly appear full-thrust.

Re: Bitcoin is the reserve currency of gambling?

Evidence the explosive growth of ShapeShift.io that the gambling is primarily for altcoin gambling:

Replies from others are emphasizing the use of BTC for gambling, but the keyword in my subject title is "reserve".

My point is that BTC is the unit-of-account by which everyone measures their gambling success, not fiat.

When someone gambles on an altcoin "investment" (speculation), they are hoping to get more BTC. They don't cash it out to fiat, they HODLit to gamble some more altcoin "investments". Even if you include gambling sites that accept Bitcoin, the gambler is likely HODLing their BTC gains (if any) and not cashing out to fiat.

So i was talking on iRC with a guy i had chatted with on & off for years in Crypto.
We have some debates on stuff etc.
I was telling him i think the state of the Altcoin scene is dire.. he agreed.
BUT !
He said it's about Alternative "uses" using Block-Chains.
He said.. it's NOT about currencies !

A perfect example is Ethereum i think.

This bothers me and i also have no interest in "alternative uses"
If there was a new section for these type of things i would never even look at it.
I also would enjoy the Altcoin section far more.. because i thought this was suppose to be for
Alternative Currencies (not alternative use IPO Pyramid scheme scams)

So i created this POLL to talk with you all about this aspect of the Altcoin scene.
To me it seems like we had long ago people who pushed a new angle / take on things.
People started to show up in late 2013 and heavily push this new idea
that Altcoins are like tech stocks on the stock market and coins are now businesses
and then we had... IPO's / ICO's / ITO's etc.

I think the ONLY reason at all they started pushing that angle heavily
is because it opens the door to handling all this stuff far differently.
What would be unacceptable maybe for a currency is now ok because it's digital tech stock "token"
I think this push was simply to make it easy to make money and stream line pumping out coins.

With out the same legality with the traditional stock exchanges this is not fair in Crypto !
Until i start seeing the Berni Madoff's and Martha Stewart's in Jail here in Crypto forget it.
You guys can't just morph this into something like the Stock Markets and expect it to be accepted as legit.
Who in Crypto would be in jail for insider trading if we had laws like normal stock markets ?

Take away the "Currency" in Alternative currencies and what do you have ?
A flood coming here to "profit".. digital pyramid scheme "tokens" in a lawless market / scene.
This is not legit and NO i don't want any part of it.

I will not invest in IPO scams or use exchanges that support them either.
Since staff here won't ban / block IPO's then i would really like to see them branch off the IPO scam shit.
Put it into a new section etc
EDIT: Same with exchanges and other misc coins services such as CoinmarketCap or Coindesk.

And i don't think this is a META topic either.
I'd like to discuss with people here why they think these IPO non currency schemes are acceptable & legit.
I'd like for these "investors" to stop & think and maybe ask questions.
If you are trying to profit off a currency being used as a currency that is one thing.
But just what in the hell is scheme like Ethereum then ? (for example)

There is two general types going on here.. Currencies and what ever else "related* to Crypto.
Did you all stop to think if you approve of these "other" schemes ?

Do you people even care ?

EDIT:
I don't want this to be about a new forum section here *only*
What i was trying to get at here, is should we separate these things into 2 groups basically
but all over crypto.. even on Exchanges etc ?
