The ETH DAG goes above 4Gb in december and not April  Roll Eyes
I does but the 4GB ASICs are predicted to be unable to mine on 4/8/2020.

Bitmain has just released firmware update for Antminer E3 , so these miners still be alive after April as previously mentioned.
So they possibly will work until DAG reaches 4gb in December 2020

Yes they will be rendered useless when it hits the same DAG as the ETC DAG which made everyone discover that they were at the end of life.

I didn't really do a specific calculation but those ASICs most likely never ROI for anybody, especially the 2nd batch which was more pricey after they found out that ETH won't fork to a new algo to stop the E3.

Will be interesting to see how the hashrate changes. We will finally find out how many of the E3 Bitmain actually produced. Will it be profitable for home miners? Probably not, not unless we get >$250 price.

Aren't both Bitmain and Insillicon miners 4gb ram and will be useless here soon?
Yeah asics will be pretty much dead soon for ETH.
Do not think ProgPow will ever happen for eth, it is taking forever.

There is no need of ProgPow at all. Go to POS.
July 30, pos & progpow activated, no worry all my gpu are vega seriies  Grin

ETH will support POS and POW.
If POS start, ETH will support both at the beginning. So it needs more than 2 years to go full POS.

The progpow implementation will not happen if everyone does not show their suport.#progpow.

From what I read it is going to happen even if people voice their opinions, the devs said that they will not reconsider it. There for some reason is alot of backlash against ProgPOW and not only from ASIC owners but mostly from the hodl'er of ETH. They are very angry and voice their opinions in the Ethereum reddit and they are surprised that ProgPOW is going to pass.

The main consensus against them is that ETH 2.0 is very close and there is no need. However we all know how the ETH devs keep delaying PoS and most likely this is the nail on the coffin that PoS is still very far away. Basically people were saying it was going to launch in Q1 2020 and I just don't see it happening that soon.

Lets wait for the testnet version of ProgPOW and that will be full confirmation that it will go live.

By August if Corona virus is still disrupting China manufacturing, GPUs will be impossible to find as profitability soars for GPU mining[/li][/list]

I highly doubt that by August the CoronaVirus will be an issue, if it still will be an issue by then, then the entire planet is pretty much doomed since many goods are produced there and mining ETH will be the least of your concerns.

Either way, there are tons of GPUs out there. Basically mining got very unprofitable at the end of 2018, so basically every GPU produced in 2019 and most of 2020 most likely wasn't bought for mining. So if profitability increases, people can just buy those GPUs second hand. There won't be any supply issues. Think of how many RX 570 are sitting collecting dust right now in basements.

I'm I correct in thinking with PROGPOW 4GB cards will not work for eth?

Even in linux OS uses some part of GPU ram so most likely end for mining with 4gb will come earlier

Taking a poll to see how many miners are coming back/upgrading in the next six months due to Ethereum DAG size and ProgPow change that should shift profitability very high for GPU mining.

I am expecting the following four events to create the perfect storm for GPU mining that will surpass the 2017/2018 mining profitability
    • Ethereum DAG size going above 4GB in April thereby eliminating publicly sold ASICs (4GB memory) from network. Current estimate is 35% of hash
    • BTC Halving in May should help stabilize prices
    • ProgPow in July will remove any remaining ASICs
    • By August if Corona virus is still disrupting China manufacturing, GPUs will be impossible to find as profitability soars for GPU mining

Bottom line is start preparing now for 2020 mining. In 2018, when mining profitability peaked, you could not find ANY GPUs to mine with.
