If I'm having trouble sleeping knowing that Bitcoin trades 24/7 and someone might move the price substantially (up or down) by the time I wake up, would that be fear, or euphoria...?

Eufearia maybe?

This a new term? Cheesy
Is AB Involved with Subprimed Loans? - Yahoo
19 Nov 2007 – Probably what will happen is that while the stock markets careen around in a whirlwind of eufearia (which is the opposite of euphoria)...

But this thread is number one on (my) google now, so we win.

This thread should list all the stages and people can change their votes as they feel the investor emotion change.  Then it would be a decent indicator.

this gave me a good idea. i will try to start a bitcoin barometer with polls every week or month so that i am able to collect the current and future opinions of investors to generate a chart out of it.

i have setup a domain with limesurvey http://www.btc-barometer.com

now i have to research which questions to ask and how to calculate an indicator out of it. are there any good ideas??

+1

I would do the classic most simple thing:

Are you bullish or bearish regarding the Bitcoin price (in USD) within the next week/month/year?

Vote [] bullish [] bearish

Something like this. Percentage bulls/bears is a simple, yet quite valuable indicator.

Edit: Didn't see that this is already done here: http://www.bitcoinbullbear.com/

Eufearia maybe?

Excellent new word, I will use it from now on whenever I'm asked for my thoughts on Bitcoin.

I wrote it in to Webster to be included in the new edition of the dictionary:

eufearia
[yo̅o̅fēr′ē·ə]

1. (finance) The feeling that the parabolic growth of your money may have unfortunate consequences.
2. (driving) The proper emotional response when someone realizes that a mountain road has been replaced by a canyon.
3. (skydiving) The brief realisation that the backpack you're wearing is, in fact, Bobs diving gear.

Bitcoin is antisemitic
There are several further degrees beyond euphoria:
- "It just goes up"
- "New normal / New paradigm"
- "Bull's nirvana"
- "This is going to end badly / Someone please stop it!"
- "WTF? LOL!"
- "I pwn the world!"
...

In IRC it is all euphoria.

This spec forum is 99% euphoric, and has been for some time now.

You used to be able to use the (excessive) sentiment as an indicator to flip... Doesn't seem so this time around.

ya i dont think the current buyer gives a #@*$&  what we are feeling...

hes not going to stop until pirate40 gives up

That's a good point! Also, the amount of other peoples coin that Pirate holds, that would otherwise be on the order book creating resistance, has allowed the price to move unimpeded.

false euphoria.   i think we're seeing an "elastic bubble" that will have to get raped hard if it wants to get popped.

thats a good thread started here!!! i am coming from stock market and like this theoretical questions.

i thinks its not how the users are feeling which are a long time in this market right now. its important how the users are feeling which are new to bitcoin and those are the guys which are buying them. so why are they buying them? becuase they are euphoric or do the see some home for bitcoins? There is only one negative choice though

I made the assumption that we are somewhere in the upwards part of the cycle now.

You are correct.
