I do not think this poll has really run its course.

The two great players are due to meet in Barcelona when Juventus travel there in the final Group G game. Both teams have already qualified for the knock-out stages so one or both could be rested but if both players do share the same pitch as opponents it will be the first time since they would meet since 2018. In that El Clasico it ended 2-2 and both were on the scoresheet.

It’s difficult to say, if we’re talking about right now when they’re both mid 30’s & past their physical peaks.
I’d rather remember them in the pinnacle of their careers. To be honest you couldn’t go wrong with either player, they’re two of the greatest ever but I think I would pick Messi.

Who would you prefer in your team? Without doubt for me it is Cristiano Ronaldo.

As you said earlier Cristiano Ronaldo is better in every aspect. Definitely stronger player that can hold the game! I did a little research and found an interesting article Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo: Here's the statistical comparison, source:
https://www.newsbytesapp.com/timeline/sports/60837/284600/messi-vs-ronaldo-a-look-at-the-numbers#:~:text=When%20it%20comes%20to%20individual,Best%20FIFA%20Men's%20Player%20twice.
Interesting statistic and comparison between these two players, they are really close in everything! But in the end it's "the team", one player can make a difference, but without a good team even good players can become invisible!

If either of them is in my team I would be lucky! Grin

Personally I like Messi more and I miss those days when the team was built around Messi. It was really exciting to watch super stars around Messi; Xavi-Iniesta, Henry, Villa, Zlatan, Neymar... He always adapted himself.
They won all 6 trophies in one year. Messi scored 50 in one year, great times. Now Barcelona is a mess.

Both players are real professionals and play at the top level even at their age. Ronaldo was born in 85, Messi in 87, they still have time to play, Messi has probably more.

Ronaldo looks stronger and have more strength but stats say there is no big difference in performance. Messi is fast with ball, his pace and acceleration is incredible when he dribbles. Because he plays only in Barcelona he knows very well the tiki taka game and he creates chances for his teammates too. His assist stats also show us that he's an all around player.

Ronaldo proved himself in different leagues, accepted every challenge and got championships. I respect that. I feel like he'll do one last challenge after Italy adventure and dominate a smaller league, maybe Portugal or Turkish league before retirement. Grin

We are lucky to watch both legends live.

As great as a player Messi is, it seems clear the majority voters in the poll are going for Cristiano Ronaldo.

I would choose Ronaldo over Messi quite simply because I think he is better in every aspect.
I am a huge fan of both these players because of their skills that has no parallels and this is the first time we have two great players competing against  each other for an extended period of time and both have their different style. I choose Cristiano Ronaldo because he played for different leagues and was successful which is rare and Messi stuck to one team. The only negative is that both of these players failed to win a world cup for their country.

Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are good at their sport specially when you see them playing at the field. It will be a difficult decision making if I will become a coach of a team and I only need to choose one because they are really great players to be considered to have great potential. What I can say is that it will be a tough choice. But upon mesmerizing, I have decided to choose Cristiano Ronaldo to get into my team not just because of his popularity but also with his performance on every play he do inside the field. I know Lionel Messi do also the same thing but based on my perception, Ronaldo plays top on my preference so I would consider getting him into my team.

I really like the game Cristiano Ronaldo since he played in Manchester United. Therefore if compared to lionel messi, I prefer Cristiano Ronaldo
to be in my team. Cristiano Ronaldo's style of play and technique impressed me, and Cristiano Ronaldo has many awards. This proves he has

Both are best Football players in our generation now and really i admire them two but if i am to choose?it is Cristiano Ronaldo as i find Him very Fan lover accommodating His fans the way simple person can do.
I think I go for Messi in the first half, and the second half I use Ronaldo!
Both fascinating players, although I think Messi has more natural talent. But Ronaldo is more a killer as an attacker.

Lol choose one and not both  Grin because if it is allowed then why would i need to use 1 per half?when i can  bring them both together for Bigger option of winning.

But I choose Cristiano Ronaldo for my team, but I prefer to use both Cristiano and Messi because that can make my team have a chance to become a good team. Although I don't watch every time they played, I feel that both have good skills and they can cooperate with each other. So that would be good if I can have them in my team Grin

For some reason I go with Messi, because the dedication level he has got is truly what a team requires. Until the last minute there won't be a small drop in his confidence and hope of winning the game. This will surely serve as an energy boost to the team players, another loveable thing is the solo performance.

why choose one anyway when two is always better than one Grin     .

but if ronaldo is a killer attacker then we should put him on offensive side  . i dont know what role messi good was but he can be a good as a reserve player if ever ronaldo had been injured or be  violated and cant play for a while  ( like what you said use for the second a half ) is also a cool idea  .

these skillfull players can represents us or regular football players that we should have our specific rules in life  . still a good lesson we have here tho

I would prefer Ronaldo over Messi, I am a great fan of Messi, the guy is pure talented and has an edge over the game, but Messi doesn't last long as in he is talented but needs recharge while Ronaldo is like a hard worker and trained and hence, in long term, he would provide fruitful results.  Both are unique and must be respected!

Cristiano Ronaldo has far too many attributes that Messi cannot compare with. Cristiano Ronaldo is an absolute machine that is still running the show at Juventus just as he was at Real Madrid but Messi cannot work outside the Barcelona team.

Definitely Ronaldo, I used to think that I would pick Messi and he is still a very likeable guy as well and probably the most talented football player ever in history, however in the recent years I understood something else, something much different and that is why I changed my view.

First of all Ronaldo is a lot better physically, taller, stronger, faster and many other stuff, he can even jump higher which we all know works great. Even if they are on the same talent level, having that physical advantage is great, on top of that because he has that and he is talented dude could play in any system, he was great in United, great in Madrid and great in Juventus now, so you can put him anywhere and he would be great, Messi is more like a system player and wouldn't be that great in Juventus, sure would be still amazing but nowhere near what he is now.

This "argument" of who's the better player between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is a universal one, it has divided opinions for more than a decade now, and it still doesn't look like coming to an end, the choice of who to pick has divided opinions, caused heated arguments and left the fans of the both players always digging up for facts to back up their respective claims. Ronaldo is lovely, his looks alone gives him an edge when people are to pick, he is somewhat of a model and plays football excellently well.

But can we be honest with ourselves for a second here, what I've seen Messi do with a football, I've never seen any other player do that, Messi changed modern football, he made the game look easy, it was like he was born playing football, he doesn't force anything, it just seems to flow out of him naturally and with minimum fuss.
Ronaldo has been a good competition for Messi, if not for him, Messi would have won the best player award 10 times and more, he is hardworking, never gives up, always taking up challenges in whatever way they present themselves, trying out new clubs and testing himself out, that makes him extraordinarily good, but he is second to Messi.

No matter how vehemently one argues in favor of Ronaldo, you just need to watch the both of them play, Messi is a genius, he plays like PlayStation 4 and for me he'll go down as the greatest of all time, Messi is more talented, Ronaldo may be more hardworking.

This is a difficult choice to determine who is the best because these two figures are legends from the same era. Ronaldo has better physical and sharpness than Messi. While Messi has a unique skill that is rarely possessed by other soccer players and is usually referred to as a natural skill. If the choice is physical and sharpness then I think I should choose Ronaldo but if its about skill and beautiful play then I have to choose Messi. But this time I chose Messi because I liked his natural skills.  Cheesy

^If you like some analysis: https://fmdataba.com/compare/147073-lionel-messi-147187-cristiano-ronaldo/

They are different types of players. CR7 is a striker, and Messi is an attacking midfielder - false nine. "Dependent" may not be the best term of this issue. As a false nine, Messi would drop deep and need world-class strikers like Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Suarez, Neymar, etc., to produce the best outcome. After Xavi and Iniesta retired, Messi's role becomes more as an attacking midfielder - playmaker. Meanwhile, CR7 is still a striker.

That said, if you play FM, you will find it more challenging to build a team with Messi than with CR7 since CR7 can be placed in any standard formations, just remove one of your existing strikers with CR7 and you good to go.

As for Messi, you will find many questions about what the team setup should be: https://www.google.com/search?q=messi+fm+best+position

Don't even get why Messi is getting any vote, Messi is a dependant player, he needs to be playing with the best to achieve his full potential.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but then everything about your analysis isn't factual and in-explicit in all sense. Messi is never a dependent player , I would have loved as much as possible not to based my argument on what Ronaldo does wrong to contrast what Messi does right(as I did with my own opinion on the OP), I was expecting the same from a lot of people (who I believed to be much more enlightened) on this thread but then, I guess most people would rather fault what one flaws against the other's strength despite the fact this are two entirely different players.

Back to my argument, Messi is less dependent than Ronaldo. Every of Ronlado's champion league Trophy in Real Madrid featured Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos, Toni Kroos, Marcelo all during their prime, but Messi gets crucified for playing alongside Xavi and Iniesta at first, then Neymar and Suarez. Messi has been deployed more in the playing making role more than will ever.

He isn't a complete player, when you talk about leadership skills he doesn't have those. Without his left leg, Messi is as useless as Lingard.

Everyone doesn't need to be leader and is that necessarily a bad thing ? anyways I'm yet to see Messi being annoyed with his teammate scoring a goal because he hasn't/didn't, and since when does being a one-legged player becomes a bad thing huh?, but I guess you're admitting Messi is good with his left leg, and as a single-legged player/playing behind the striker(s) more often than, I guess you'd agree he shouldn't be scoring anywhere near the numbers he's scoring.

How so different do you really think both players are when you're talking about scoring with their less-preferred leg ?

People think it's easy to score when all you have to do is complete the finishing touches, seems they haven't watched Morata play before especially at Chelsea.

Indirectly, you're insinuating or agreeing that finishing(goalscoring) is all what Ronaldo brings to the table ? and that Mess does just more than goalscoring ? but meanwhile Messi still have still afforded 697 goals in 856 appearance compared to Ronaldo's 725 in 1000 appearance, 28 goals less and 144 appearance to make up for it, that's a better goal per game ratio in advantage for a so called one-legged player (by you) ahead of the goal machine Cheesy

Ronaldo on and off the pitch is far better than Messi but the media propaganda always favor Messi.
Favors Messi ?! BIG LOL!
Do you really think both players have the same attitude or approach on/off field, I'm sure you know better.

They just want him to be the best even when he has lost his magic.

I wasn't aware Messi by any chance had magic, thanks to you.

Ronaldo has duplicated his success in three different league plus continental competitions but what has Messi done? Been made a god in Barcelona. Without wasting anytime, I'll choose Ronaldo over Messi.
Since Ronaldo got to Juventus, they haven't won anything they hadn't won in the last 2 years before his arrival, in contrast they became less dominant the season he arrived (but in terms of goals, Yes! he has scored many).

It is great to see the debates happening between members discussing these two extremely gifted footballers.

Anyway, is there another event about this Ronaldo vs Messi thing? I don't think Ballon d'Or would be about these two GOATs again.

If we talk about these GOATs in prime, I will pick CR7 over Messi because he is more versatile (about position and role). Messi needs an entire team built for him to have the maximum outcome. He was shit in Argentina, meanwhile, CR7 carried his Portugal team won the EURO 2016. I don't think I'll play with false nine. I'd rather use LWF/RWF/CF

What you say it true, it mirrors my earlier post on the subject.

So if you were a Manager or Coach and had to select one player over the other, what would give as the reasons?
Cristiano is my choice.. my reason is because Cristiano has played in the English League, the Spanish League and finally the Italian League, every team that Cristiano has visited will surely show an increase in quality, playing in many leagues certainly makes Cristiano have to adapt to the team's game in that league.  whereas Messi has never moved to another league aside and that shows that Messi's experience is still far below Cristiano's.

I picked CR. There was a video where even Messi hailed Cristiano as the greatest. He acknowledged CR for being able to win titles with different clubs in different major leagues and also for his national team. That's something he hasn't accomplished yet and who knows if he will ever achieved that (I don't think he'll transfer to another club).

I'm sure every Barcelona fan will vote for Messi, while Real Madrid fans and Juventus fans will vote for Ronaldo for sure.

Maybe add MU fans as well. CR did great things for that club too.

Indeed. Hmm when it comes only on pure skills, Messi for me is better. Imagine, he is not so tall and only got fair physique but look at him — football seems a basic thing for him Grin. His ball handling is out of this world d*mn!

Honestly, I was an FC Barcelona fan since the very beginning but though the years I saw how Cristiano Ronaldo show that he is not only a good football player but a good hearted individual as a whole, thus I like him more now. We already saw many times how generous he is by giving to the needy and for me that's what make him more special.

So my final verdict is Ronaldo Smiley.

I'm sure every Barcelona fan will vote for Messi, while Real Madrid fans and Juventus fans will vote for Ronaldo for sure. Far from being a Messi bad player, but as a neutral member I have always appreciated Ronald's approach to playing at the club and in the national team. This man has always played at his maximum, leaving his heart on the pitch and has always been a key figure in every team.

In addition to being one of the best players ever, Ronaldo is also a great humanitarian who has helped and helps many in need. I can't say if Messi does anything like that, but Ronaldo definitely proves to be a compassionate man who gladly shares some of his wealth with others.

In 2013 he was named in the Uefa Team of the Year - earning a €100,000 (£89,000) bonus from the European governing body. But rather than cash the cheque, he donated it to the Red Cross.  A year later the Portuguese star led Real Madrid to La Decima, their tenth Champions League victory, and picked up a £450,000 bonus from Los Blancos.
But Ronaldo again decided against cashing the money, instead sharing it among the three charities he is an ambassador for, Unicef, World Vision and Save the Children.
The 32-year-old, compared to a growing number of his peers, is remarkably tattoo-free.
It's all for a reason - Ronaldo regularly donates blood and has been involved in numerous campaigns to encourage others to do the same. Ronaldo again donated a huge amount of money in 2015, to the relief efforts for the Nepalese earthquake in April 2015. Ronaldo is reported to have given £5MILLION to Save the Children's disaster relief fund - although those reports have remained unverified and were denied by the charity.

What cannot be understated is how both Ronaldo and Messi are legends of the game in their own rights.

Ronaldo has proved his greatness by playing in three different top tier European leagues and being success in all of them (Premier League, La Liga and Serie A)

Messi never proved his greatness beyond a Barcelona team that was built around Xavi, Iniesta and Messi. After they both left Barcelona it was all about building the team around Messi but that has always limited him from proving himself as someone who could be successful beyond that Barcelona team.

Could Messi have been the player he is if he played in his peak in the premier league with its rough game play and heavy tackling and fast box-to-box speed? Ronaldo proved a domestic and European champion in la liga and premier league. He already is a domestic winner in Italian serie a and he would love to be a European champion too.

Even David Beckham was a success in the premier league and la liga. The prolific Sergio Aguero was a success in la liga and the premier league. The great Brazilian Ronaldo (El Fenomeno) was a success in la liga with Barcelona and Real Madrid and of course with Inter Milan even though blighted by injuries. That one season the great El Fenomeno Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima had at Barcelona under Bobby Robson, I saw electric pace and strength while he had to hold off multiple players trying to foul him but he was unbelievable.

What could Messi have done in another league outside his purpose built Barcelona team? We will never know but you can look at his failures for Argentina to come to some sort of conclusion.

As for what could Ronaldo have achieved playing in other top European leagues - we already know what he did with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Portugal - he was a success and is a multiple European champion for both domestic leagues and the Portugal national side.

Cristiano Ronaldo of course. He has literally gone against all odds to prove how great a player he is.  He is a hybrid of hardwork and talent. While Barcelona was technically built for Messi(this is very evident through the failed Argentina project) , Cristiano Ronaldo has proved that he is a very reliable player at different club levels and Country

That is absolutely true, imagine trying to make an all-time-greatest XI. That would be a monumental task.

Just look at Alan Shearer, Ian Wright and Gary Lineker trying to find the all-time Premier League XI. Such a difficult task: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hOaSFP3n0A

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it, it is not fact.

The point being made is no single football player can be called the greatest player ever because there are 11 different positions to be played on football field and no single player has ever played in all 11 positions sufficiently enough to be called the greatest player ever therefore to compare like-for-like players would be more reasonable.
So, this is one of reasons why we can't call one of players as GOAT. I think it would be more reasonable to make XI of all time, and choosing best player in every position, but even this would make never ending discussions who is best goalkeeper, left back and etc.

As for Ronaldo, if he was called upon to do it I am sure with his mental focus he would be able to play in literally any position if the manager asked him in an emergency including goal and no matter how bad he might play in those roles he would be better than Messi. That speaks volumes because Messi is definitely not the greatest player of all time, there is no one player that has played in all 11 positions on the football pitch to cement that title.
Well, it's not fact, just your opinion. I don't think that forward have to play as defender or goalkeeper to show that he is best.
And personally, I don't think that calling Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona or Pele as GOAT. First of all, football was very different 50 or 30 ago, compared to what we have now. I think it would be just unfair to compare these players. And finally, there will be no consent reached who is best, because every side will have their arguments.
And finally, I think it's unfair that players from other positions get less credit. How many goalkeepers or defenders have won Golden Ball? Is it fair that players like Buffon, Bobby Moore, Xavi, Iniesta, Maldini, Pirlo or Oliver Kahn have never won it?
That is your opinion and you are entitled to it, it is not fact.

On the other hand, Ronaldo is such amazing player, especially in his prime. Comparing with Messi, he is stronger physically and he can score headers. And I see that he change throughout the years. Instead of playing individually, he started to play more for the team, he started to dive less and show less arrogance. I think he changed as personality, become more

It's difficult to choose, but I pick Messi. I think he just makes bigger difference on the pitch even without scoring goals.

And finally, I think it's unfair that players from other positions get less credit. How many goalkeepers or defenders have won Golden Ball? Is it fair that players like Buffon, Bobby Moore, Xavi, Iniesta, Maldini, Pirlo or Oliver Kahn have never won it?

I choose Cristiano Ronaldo because i like more the way he plays. He is more like a team player than Messi. But is a hard question, is like choosing between Coca and Pepsi, a lot of people will chose fanta or some other flavor than those two.

I would prefer Ronaldo in my team. Ronaldo has done so many impact in every team he plays  with or without stars . But Messi had his best season when xavi and iniesta we're still there . They did every lot of work and made things easy but now Messi does the work but things are hard. Ronaldo will always find a way to score and make his team to win .

I just found the el classico to be something of a damp squid. The few times I watched highlights of Real Madrid play I am expecting Ronaldo to get the ball and run down either flank, they are not the same team. I think they will miss him far more than they missed any so called galactico whether it be Zidane, Figo, Beckham, Carlos or the great Brazilian Ronaldo El Fenomeno because all those great players were part of a great team full of great players. It just shows how much Real Madrid needed and relied on Cristiano Ronaldo for the 9 years he was there. El classico is just not the same.

@JollyGood both have acknowledged this in the past that without each other they wouldn’t have been able to push themselves to the peak, and Messi even said that El Classico has not been the same since Ronaldo left La Liga.

Thankfully they played their careers around the same time so they pushed each other on to become better.

Both are fantastic players, living legends of the game.

Too difficult a question to answer, let me just say that we’re lucky to have seen both of their careers. They’re probably the two greatest players ever imo.

@LFC_Bitcoin indeed it’s very difficult to answer this as even sports experts have often failed to answer it, and yes I do consider myself lucky to be born in an era where these two played and redefined modern day football.

I would choose Ronaldo, he's a versatile player, physically strong.  Evidently he has defended several different clubs and even often become the top scorer in the club behind him.

From the other side I am happy because Ronaldo is a generous person, caring for people in need.  He described a person who has a high social life.

I'm a huge fan of Messi, and I strongly believe he's the greatest player of all time.
I think if Messi was a goalkeeper he would be a speck of dust in comparison to players such as Peter Shilton, Petr Čech, Peter Schmeichel, Oliver Kahn or even the somewhat diminutive for a goalkeeper Fabien Barthez.
Ronaldo has the physique to be a goalkeeper, much taller than Messi and more athletic.

Looking at great central defenders of their era such as Bobby Moore, Tony Adams, Alan Hansen, the great Paolo Maldini and even players such as Virgil Van Dijk or Rio Ferdinand - how can anybody say Messi could be compared to them? They were masters of their trade in their positions. Who would choose Messi in a left back position when they have better options such as the great Roberto Carlos and even players such as Ashley Cole and Dennis Irwin to name a few.

In the centre midfield, there were too many masters of their trade to simply allow Messi to walk in to the team. Even in the great Barcelona teams of 2009+ when Guardiola was manager, Xavi and Iniesta occupied those roles.

Playing Messi on the left wing or on the right wing makes sense, playing him in the middle behind a striker or as a sole striker does not. Who would choose Messi over Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima (the Brazilian great El Fenomeno)?

As for Ronaldo, if he was called upon to do it I am sure with his mental focus he would be able to play in literally any position if the manager asked him in an emergency including goal and no matter how bad he might play in those roles he would be better than Messi. That speaks volumes because Messi is definitely not the greatest player of all time, there is no one player that has played in all 11 positions on the football pitch to cement that title.

In a like-for-like position Diego Maradona (also a left footed player) was a greater player than Messi. What Maradona did for Argentina in both the Mexico 1986 and Italia 1990 FIFA World Cup competitions as well as for Napoli after his transfer from Barcelona was nothing short of miraculous. Even the legendary Pelé stated "Maradona was a much better player than Messi": https://en.as.com/en/2018/12/06/football/1544122661_793685.html

Saying any one player is the greatest in the position they play in might be a better way to debate it  Grin

However, for this poll I chose Ronaldo. I'd rather have Ronaldo on my team for a few reasons, the first reason would be his motivation/hunger for success. Ronaldo is always a player that is motivated and a better leader than Lionel Messi, and he puts in more than the extra needed almost at all times, he's never satisfied with his achievements and he's always eager for more, I'm not saying that Messi doesn't putting enough efforts, but then I'm just saying Ronaldo puts in more efforts and zeal, that's why I would rather have him on my team.
I have seen very few players that have the mental ability to push themselves further and never be happy with what they achieve so much so they are always hungry for more success. For me, Ronaldo is the player I would want in my team over Messi. It cannot be overstated how great a player Messi is but I think he will not be winning any more Ballon d'Or where as even with his age at 35 Ronaldo seems to be on fire at Juventus.

Outside of the Barcelona team, Messi has not really won anything of substance including almost nothing important with the Argentina national team though he has won 6 Ballon d'Or with Ronaldo on 5 Ballon d'Or awards. Ronaldo has won the English, Spanish and Italian league titles - unbelievable. He also has won the European Champions League with an English (Manchester United 1 time) and a Spanish team (Real Madrid 4 times), now trying to win it with an Italian team (Juventus). He has also became a national team European champion when the Portugal national team won the UEFA European Cup.

I have never ever seen a player do things with a football in a way that the great Diego Maradona did but he is not the greatest footballer because it is impossible to compute as nobody has played in every position over a long length of time to evaluate. In my opinion Maradona was one of the greatest in the position he played in on the pitch.

its the two of them on the image ? i dont know if who is messi and ronaldo on the pic but my first thought is the guy on the white shirt are too kind to help the other player or his oponent  but then after reading further your sentence i can read that both of them have respect or verry close to each other  so by that i think i now love them both   .

that is if both of them are allowed to form a one team  however in terms of popularity im more familiar with lionel messi more than ronaldo but i think i have heard that name before  but only forgot it later on  .

i would prefer Messi, there is a few reasons behind that, but most of them are related to Ronaldo and my opinion on him, so he is out of option for me, and Messi is the only choice at the moment
of course, if the list was longer than choose from the two players, other players would be a better fit for my team, in comparison with these two, for example Mbappe

Easily Ronaldo. Consistent success along with performing at the top as he ages.

This! Ronaldo has the absolute winning mentality and has had more success than anyone in recent years. Messi is still lacking behind Ronaldo's success, particularly due to the defeats with the national team..

I would pick Messi in his prime over Ronaldo in his prime. Messi is more of a team player, working for the team. Ronaldo is focused on his game, delivers nothing in terms of defense, and he needs to be the focal point to succeed. Messi has many more assists throughout his career and is an excellent all rounder. Ronaldo doesn't assist that often.

Both are good but i prefer Cristiano Ronaldo quite Lionel Messi Ronaldo plays alright and he gets frustrated at playing all-rounder Messi whenever he plays but Ronaldo plays with tons of fun and joy Ronaldo makes some changes in every game that wins the minds of the many like us. He features a lot of talent and skills.

He dribbles more so close to the goal, and of course that will get many opportunities to score by kicking from close range.

I would prefer Ronaldo over Messi, Messi is like pure talent and Ronaldo is a bit of talent added to lots of hardwork. Messi depends on his talent wholly, if it doesn't work out, the match is gone while Ronaldo is like an all rounder and in it the chances are low that he would perform very worst.

I wish we also had a video of both doing their best Smiley

I don't have much experience in football but my grandfather owned the football club in the town where I was born and he
also was a manager at some point. Let me use my "inherited" skills and elaborate

I love to control the game so I will pick a 4-3-3 formation. Messi (my choice) would play as a RW. I want a left foot Striker / Center Forward who
from time to time would switch position with Messi

The RB and RCM (right back and right central midfielder) must come to ball and support that change. Basically Messi and the CF would pass to those guys
and make the movement by support. Imagine one goes one way, the other goes the other way but through passes. Sometimes this can create lot of space
for the RB or, it can attract the other side of the opposition defence allowing long passes to the LW.

Cristiano Ronaldo has great abilities but I don't see him in this crazy switch with the Striker. Ronaldo needs his space and plays as he wants using his abilities as he
knows. When he aged he changed his football style to fit his abilities. Also I'm not a fan of crossing so I would not be using Ronaldo's heading abilities which is a stupid
idea if you have Cristiano in the game.

Why would you choose Ronaldo over Messi? Can you elaborate?

Easily Ronaldo. Consistent success along with performing at the top as he ages.
There is no doubt Ronaldo did have super success with Real Madrid winning 4 European Champion League titles but consistency applies to both him and Messi.

Ronaldo proved himself as a great player in the English Premier League with Manchester United, the EPL is the best and most competitive football league in the world. He then had super success at Real Madrid and now he is having success at Juventus too so he enjoyed success in England, Spain and Italy whereas Messi has not proved himself outside of a Barcelona team or the Spanish La Liga (league).

CRISTIANO RONALDO

vs

LIONEL MESSI

For over 15 years both these fantastic gifted talents have stood head and shoulders above their colleagues and peers.

They have brought new meaning to the word consistency and they have hundreds of millions of men, women and children that follow their every move.

So if you were a Manager or Coach and had to select one player over the other, what would give as the reasons?

They both have respect for each other and have recently said many complimentary things about each other but who would you choose to have in your team. Enjoy the poll  Grin
