Looks like the cons are bigger than the pros and 12x1 makes it obvious.. This is definitely something I should not go ahead with..

I really appreciate all the opinions!

Are you planning to run a advertisement for your business or you are planning to run advertisement service by using telegram since any of these will have a create negative impact since if you are a business owner and want to promote your business in telegram then provably your advertisment will be ignore due to the fact that many scammers are been there on that platform all the time and people are more observant right now. But if you are planning to run an advertisement service then give it a shot but don't rely on telegram only since you will not earn anything on that and be more creative and resourceful to use other platform.

Almost all the telegram groups are filled with spammer. I doubt someone joined a telegram group to have on topic discussion. Most of the times, group members are fake. As a result, the advertisement brings no good result as it is not targetting the audience project needs. That will be a waste of resources.

I voted No because of this reason. Lately telegram has been targeted by scammers, so that's a turn off to me. Although I have a telegram account, I just used it for personal used only.

There are a could be other options as well, and how can you gauge the effectiveness or lack there of using telegram? And I don't think there's a groups in telegram that is reputable, many just a few, but majority are either bots promoting scam links or just fake accounts.

Take some count for those random add up of groups into your list when they someone do let you join into a certain group without any permission and just pop out from somewhere.
Same as yours ive been using Telegram for personal purposes but for other purpose? No!. This place is indeed infested with lots of scammers plus the spams generated from anywhere.
You cant really trust up any groups into this place thats why its really useless if op will consider out this option for advertising yet majority of people will just ignore it out and even if
its a true thing they will just treat it as an another form of spam.

It does and doesn't on the basis of what you want to advertise and how much you want to spend, if you want to advertise something not too important with a small amount, then posting your ad on TG channels with good numbers of subscribers may be fine; but if your ads are significant, you have to top your budget and seek better platforms for your ad.
That's it, maybe fine, there's nothing wrong if you will try to publish your ads in telegram but don't expect it will have a good result.
There are a lot of criticisms with this social media that used most commonly by the crypto bounty programs, most of them says that a full of scammers.
Another is the Telegram channel, I don't know if the subscribers are true users or even if the follower is real, maybe they will mute the notification if this isn't important to them.

Just try it if you have enough budget but don't rely on Telegram, try other platforms to have ads on your own platform for better traffic results.

Is there a way to block those ads?
No, as long as one is a member of the telegram group/channel, you'll see the ads when it's posted or pinned by the owner/admin of the TG channel. You can obviously leave the group to block the ads permanently though Grin.
Does it make sense at all?

According to a my considerable experience with telegram in the crypto fields, i would always advice others not to follow instructions or ads published in a telegram channel. Simply because there is no way to check how incredible it is. And for an honest project, it is not a wise idea to pay for promoting itself or its product in a closed channel where there is a high probability that its subscribers are fake. At best case, if someone willing to use a telegram channel for promotion, then he will have to promote the channel itself.

yes
I would rather place my ads on WhatsApp if there is an opportunity for this. Telegram is a den of scammers,  no genuine business owners would want their ads placed on a random telegram group as the @Findingnemo above me has said, everything on telegram can easily be manipulated by the admins.

A big NO.

How do you expect someone to invest on something just because that group admin told you to do.Its easy to create fake group members and statistics on telegram groups so I never trust them.More importantly telegram is widely used platform by scammers so even if the project is legit people will hesitate to do.

Coinmarketcal's telegram channel started accepting sponsored posts.

I don't know if what you are planning is the same as that but I don't think members in telegram would appreciate sponsored posts. I mean most users who are into cryptocurrencies join telegram channels of projects they follow (incl. bounties/airdrops) and not to see ads.

It sounds like it would devolve into a collection of useless shitty groups that exist only to make pennies off ads. Granted I know next to nothing about telegram, maybe people go there to watch ads LOL.

Is there a way to block those ads?

If how the targeting works with choosing groups instead of choosing interests(like with Facebook), targeting will probably be a bit more difficult. Are most niches using Telegram as their community group in the first place? I think they're mostly using Facebook groups.

One thing's for sure, if I have a product/service to advertise, I'd at least attempt to advertise on Telegram with a small amount of money, just to check the effectiveness as cost per clicks and impressions could possibly be a lot cheaper.

Oooo I'm first to vote, I don't see the reasonling behind doing this. You're not going to get very good grossing figures, a lot of people mute the channels or accidentally click muted channels so you won't be able to know very well how many people have used the link.

Also, unless you find channels for things like crypt news, I doubt you'll have people staying in the channels for a long time - if instead it's a bounty/signals or some other channel where people are just there for one thing and only that I can imagine they'd just tune out of the channel and either mute it or leave.

I get annoyed when the leader of the channel tries to advertise their own social media though.

Just a little research! Would you pay to advertise in telegram groups?

Basically, you register in the platform, add some btcs in order to receive credits, choose in what telegram groups you would like to advertise and start it..

Every group with its own prices, rating and meta info would be shown in the platform (number of users, activity, etc..)

Platform would also shown detailed ads performance

Note that each group owner would be responsible to set prices for advertising.

Users that run campaigns would be able to rate each group.. So it would be a kind of self regulated ad market for telegram groups..
Groups with better reputation would be able to set higher rates while new ones would be able to set lower rates in order to gain reputation.

No fiat involved

Does it make sense at all?
