I'm wondering if anyone has been able to verify their poloniex account when they had initially used a made up name?

I'd say it's impossible. Poloniex will start requiring web-cam verification for legacy accounts, where you need a webcam showing you holding up your passport. Unless you are into fake passports, I'd say it is impossible to get verified with a fake name.

If you don't want to disclose your real identity, trade on an exchange like livecoin, or on a decentralised exchange like openledger.
Good thing i didn't register or else someone must have seen my ugly face. I've always used various kinds of fake names but not id. How unlucky Poloniex seems a very good site and also reliable with good GUI.
Poloniex in the past do place on top tiers exchangers but now they are gradually going lower on ranks due to issues and now with their verification too which do need to follow strict compliance specially they are already collaborated or handled by Circle.
When we do talk about verification you might able to pass on earlier phase but now on updated ones it would really impossible.

Is there anyone who verified successfully after using fake data at registration? And did you have to do some "special" verification process because of the fake data?
You might get verified because poloniex ownership has been changed few months ago and like @magneto mentioned they are using third party verification netverify which is same as used by other payment processors like skrill and neteller which will basically checks whether your entered name (at the time of verification matches with your name and other details in your uploaded document.

But you can't hide your identity for the shake of anonymity if you are willing to use poloniex like centralized exchange.

I had a legacy account that I wasn't bothered to verify, but I signed in today and basically, you were able to fill in the "profile verification" form with any name you want, even if it doesn't match your account first and last names. After that, you're redirected to Netverify to complete verification.

I have no idea whether or not verifying your account like this will actually result in a positive result (50/50 probably), but it's worth a try first. I couldn't find any past cases.

If it doesn't work, then you'd have to contact support. As slow as polo support may be, I think they'll be able to help you. Just clarify that you signed up with an assumed name, and now you want to verify it. They should at least be able to withdraw your funds for you after verification, even if it means that your account is suspended.

Just don't ever do it. If you ever want to use a centralized exchange, make sure you use a real name. Eventually, one day, you will be required to verify your identity. This is whether or not they really are following regulations. Exchanges will use every means at their disposal to make an excuse for not paying out and you should never give them the opportunity to do so. Take precautions and be extremely paranoid. Or use decentralized exchanges where you never need to do KYC!

You misunderstand, I don't want to continue to use the fake name, I want to switch to my real name.

You are not allowed to change your main details yourself, which is why Poloniex urges you to use your legal name, etc. If you want to change your name, where I am not sure if that is even possible with a fake name since that is considered to be a serious offence, you need to email Poloniex and explain them the situation.

serious offense? maybe a breach of terms with poloniex, but pretty standard in the crypto world. thousands of people (including myself) have set up poloniex accounts with fake names. i hope someone who has attempted to change their name replies to the thread....i'm legit interested to hear the answer.

My guess would be, he meant that a serious offense is the same with breaching the poloniex terms.
IMO, I'll think the same way since we're talking about a money that could get dissolve by simply doing a what so called "standard" thing on cryptoworld.
If that's money, then it's serious.

In which case withdraw all your funds. Then make a brand new account with your real name and the verify that. (It might take some time though, I think Poloniex has backlogs).

i'd avoid it unless you have no choice because of disabled withdrawals. per their press release in december, accounts that are locked can still withdraw at their previous daily limits. i'd drain the account and start a new account with all my real details if i were you.

From what I see, the profile verification allows you to set (change?) the name.
It would be the opportunity to set the correct/real name.

However, since I assume you have funds at Poloniex, I advise you to ask their support about your specific situation. But you'll need patience, a lot of it. I have a ticket waiting for 30 days already for an answer.

Even better, I suggest OP to withdraw all his funds from poloniex. Then just set up another account using his real informations.

Think carefully about what your next step is. If you can withdraw funds, do it right now, because if Poloniex doesn't allow you to change your fake details to your legal details, they will then lock your account, and you will never be able to get your funds back. You agreed to all their terms when you registered your account, so you heavily depend on their mercy now.

Not realy like that. I've passed verification by making 2 separate pics of my passport and my face. I guess you need to hold your ID near your face only if you are senting a pic and not making it via their service.
What about faking your name then everything is possible but in most cases it simply not worth that. You can buy a physical fake ID and make pics or get some pics thru the internet. You can also try to get your ID and rey to photoshop it but I guess that the system will uncover you easily. And once again: the result is not worth that efforts.
If you will change your name after getting verified then it is quet pointless.

I would urgently advice you to first withdraw your whole funds. There are so many complaints, that funds are frozen because of different names or during verification process.
So
1) Withdraw your funds
2 ) In the next step you can follow the advice of preposter.
3) Make your ID verification and wait, until your ID verification went through.
4) Then deposit little funds, trade and try to withdraw.
