Ive been using poloniex in the past and everything goes smooth when i do make use of it but now on this year there are issues ive been already experiencing the same with other users which really the cause of lossing out money because of crash ddos issues.I agree on what most people said here that there are lots of alternatives which can be used to avoid problems and thats what im doing now.

I'm sure we are all aware of the 'troubles' that Poloniex had this last 24 hours.  During that huge market crash there were serious lagging issues, a lot of missed trades and reports of DDoS attacks at the exchange.  A lot of traders lost a lot of money because the exchange could not cope with the volume.  In summary, Poloniex was a nightmare.

My question; would a trader have been better off if they had taken their altcoins to Bittrex instead?  I mean Bittrex or smaller exchanges in general.  Perhaps it is possible to escape the mad crush by quietly slinking off to a less popular exchange.

Does anybody out there know...
How did Bittrex perform during the crash?
How did other small exchanges perform during the crash?
Are there any other price implications of selling your altcoins at a smaller exchange such as Bittrex?

Best is to use both.

I am sure traders already know this and not use just both but also more. There are also decentralized exchanges kicking in.

For people like me that dont day trade, is best to just stay away as soon as do whatever trade I do.   I am glad that was so much FUD last 2 days so I started pulling out my coins, lately way to many stacked there Tongue It is time to make few more paper wallets.

Yes, I am totally aware that the price will be (almost) the same on Poloniex and Bittrex.  This is simple arbitration and that was not the main question.

The main question here is to find out how Bittrex coped during the meltdown on Poloniex.  Maybe if this madness happens again I will go to Bittrex instead.  What happened on Poloniex was inexcusable.

Thank you for your answers, keep them coming!

sadly there is no perfect platform to trade on.

poloniex is big, it has a lot of coins listed and lots of high liquidity. also it has a very good set of API methods which makes things very good for traders who use bots.
but they are shady, they pump altcoins themselves, they go down very easily because their servers are weak compared to the large number of users they have, and their platform (website) is shit in my opinion since it loads slower and the charts are way too simple!!

bittrex is big enough, has most coins, it has a handful of coins that aren't at all listed on polo such as FTC and PIVX and that gives it an edge. it is secure, the charts (website) are awesome. the site loads fast. they also don't require verification of your account. i have not yet experienced any downtime with them. but they had some.
however, their API is not so good, they don't give chart points in their API and don't have sockets.

poloniex effect, after poloniex problem all altcoin price is crash and down price
after poloniex problem, volume transaction in bittrex incraese significant , because bittrex is second placed altcoin trading
The smoothness of a site exchange will definitely affect the price of altcoin. Because with the smoothness and consistency of the owners altcoin will trust the altcoin. If a site can not handle this then they should be prepared to lose registered traders.

Bittrex price almost follows poloniex price in real time if you look closely. During the lag in polo, bittrex trading also used to remain under constant price range to exactly follow polo patterns. So the only benefit we can get when trading in bittrex during lag in polo is that your sell/buy order will be processed without any delay.

I still stick with polo despite lots of lags and drama they are having recently because there is no better alternative with huge trading volume like they have.
I would go the same way too inspite of having many dramas i would still stick to the top because i do trust poloniex from the very first start when i transfered came from c-cex. Prices doesnt really matter at all because they do have almost the same speaking of their spreads which means if theres a crash or lag its our decision if we transfer or not at all.

Having a crash liek that on such a big trading platform is pretty much unacceptable to me, I couldn't close a couple of trades and have made some small losses because of that.
I couldn't imagine what I'd do if it happened with some really big amounts of BTC.

Has Bittrex ever had issues like this? I thought they were somewhat similar in size (number of users)?

After the Poloniex crash. I don't think many people will still trade there. They are the biggest trading platform that i know. But it seem they can't even upgrade their systems. Even me i lost huge money after that crash. Bittrex is fine. But i doubt their security. Hope polo hire more professionals to maintain their system.

bittrex is not exactly that small either. it is still a big exchange with a high volume.
as someone who trades there i have to say i didn't feel much trouble in that platform, of course they also become slow at times like this but i have never seen something this critical and this often as i see happening with poloniex each time a market crash happens.

Bittrex looks working fine to me and i preffer this trading platform since poloniex has issue with the systems. Bittrex is no yet overcrowd. Unlike Poloniex, its over crowded. I think their system is failing because of that. Poloniex i think is more prone to hacking since its the biggest exchange.

I think if you are talking about the performance i think they are both the same because sometimes the price of altcoin in bittrex are lower than poloniex but sometimes poloniex are lower that bittrex..
In terms of price crash for altcoin both are the same decreases because i think it will be depends in the market and traders if they seen the price is in other trading site they will transfer their funds and sell it there that is why the price will both the same.
I'm a little surprised that one hundred Bittrex exchange is still afloat, internnesno how in the last season, bitcoin could not resist after their hacking, and after all a lot of talk about the fact that the administration refers to this name. .
Bittrex is it already or hacked? the site still alive but i am not active in bittrex looks like i was wrong giving an opinion. i was talking about bitfinex not bittrex because of a little bit same of their name.
I think it is not safe to go back in bittrex because the site was hack before..

Bittrex worked fine.  It helps to use an exchange  like bittrex run by professionals that know how to build enterprise level service with the ability to scale with future growth.  I would not say this is the case with all other exchanges.  Trading volumes have been increasing on bittrex and I expect liquidity there will improve as other exchanges falter.
