That's simply not true.  The Rig Box power efficiency is on par with the Spartan based FPGA designs (ztex, x6500 & Icarus), yet still offers an enormous advantage in cost per unit of performance.

I apologise, I was thinking about a 3500 W consumption when I wrote that. I double checked the site and you are correct - at 2500W the power specs put it on par with Spartan designs. And the price is much better per GH.

If that still holds true when the Rig Box begins delivery than I shall reconsider buying one. I still favor smaller investments in hashing power due to modularity, but the Rig Box price might change my mind Smiley

Good luck in your endeavours.

No, I won't buy the Rig Box. Even if I had the money I still wouldn't buy it. Not because I think it's a scam or anything (I think it might be legit when the first offers come out), but because it's power inefficient when compared to FPGA designs such as the Icarus or the X6500.

First of all, do a bit more research. If you are specifically referring to the Butterflylabs Rig Box product, the stated cost is $30k, not $20k. The hash rate and power usage claims have also been adjusted since its inception to more accurately reflect real world performance, based on actual performance of the Singles.

It is much less likely to be a scam than you are assuming in your first post. Again, a little more research is in order.

Well, I didn't vote for anything from your poll, it lacks a clean "NO" answer.

No, I won't buy the Rig Box. Even if I had the money I still wouldn't buy it. Not because I think it's a scam or anything (I think it might be legit when the first offers come out), but because it's power inefficient when compared to FPGA designs such as the Icarus or the X6500. Yes, that kind of hashing power in FPGAs would cost much more, but it has another advantage besides being 2x as power efficient: It's modular. I can buy 1 or 5 or 10 boards whenever I need them or have money, I won't be forced to spend 30k dollars at once.

I think the boxes you're referring to are closer to 30k USD.
Either case, a shit load of money.

Even if you do just have 30k USD just sitting around, that would probably be the last thing you'd invest into.
Yes, of course, if I could have as many "not needed" money - I would buy B and sell immediately at intervals of 1 minute - 1 hour - 1 day rinse and repeat .. Grin

I apologize for the translation, hard Engrish 3  Grin

I'm specifically not going to give any references, those who are interested - and so they know where and what solutions are offered (or, announced).

Soon, probably will be available in high-performance devices for mining such as "Rig Box" This is probably "accidentally" coincide with the regular inflated "bubble".

I want to draw attention to the fact that it could easily turn out to be scams. For example in this device be cheap buzzing \ basking parts and all work will be carried out in rented facilities such as a GPUMAX https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/gpumax-the-bitcoin-mining-marketplace-55819

Therefore, I believe that to prove the "fairness" of such devices it is necessary that at least one important condition - the "honest" Rig Box should be "able" to work without being connected to the external Internet (only on the local network, provided that the "server" of the network has access in global network)
Since manufacturers will be very easy to "hide behind" commercial confidentiality then I think the open source software for these devices will not. It is also possible that the interior will be protected from reverse engineering, for example, filled with what some polymer.
An example of how to check it out.

If the rig box is able to connect to p2pool or in solo mode - all honestly, because these customers are open source and easy to check that there is sent to and from which information get (what work and what comes out) to the same p2pool can be configured in LAN and Rig Box can be connected (?) to the internal network (which he could not directly connects to an global internet. If the version with solo - all the easier, download the old client (in case if we assume that the new already " secret tab " especially for the Rig Box, of course nonsense, but the code is not everyone will be checked), connect via local network Rig Box to the network without the right to external traffic. If you can somehow run it and calculates at full speed - then all honest.
Of course only a theory in general, correct me if wrong ..
If someone it helped to save money - I'll be glad donation 16f6iWHHkVEnDReeBQPT9GwCNwUfPTXrp2
