Sorry I haven't updated this. I got cgminer working with older ati drivers, 12.8 I think? Then I installed 2.4 sdk and it still wasn't working. Then randomly it worked. Maybe I had a few restarts in there. But basicay it wasn't working at all until I got that. 58xx cards are suuuuper picky, but they snag great hash rates! I'm getting about 430 steady with no overclock.

Oh also I tried some of the older versions of cgminer (correlating with age of the drivers). Didn't help any, when I got it working it was the newest version of cgminer with old drivers.

Try BFGMiner.  The same (or very similar) settings should work between the two.  I had similar issues on one machine, while I didn't on another and it mined LTC on CGMiner like a champ.  As an almost last resort I tried it and it mined LTC much better for me that CGMiner.  Not sure why though...

come on guys 170 views and no one has even a slight CLUE?

I have a 6870 in an Ubuntu server, with cgminer 3.0 and Catalyst 12.10.  This configuration has worked well on several pools...currently trying out WeMineLTC:

Code:
{
"pools" : [
{
"url" : "stratum+tcp://eu.wemineltc.com:3333",
"user" : "**redacted**",
"pass" : "**redacted**"
}
]
,
"intensity" : "15",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "64",
"kernel" : "scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"thread-concurrency" : "4480",
"shaders" : "0",
"gpu-engine" : "0-0",
"gpu-fan" : "0-85",
"gpu-memclock" : "0",
"gpu-memdiff" : "0",
"gpu-powertune" : "0",
"gpu-vddc" : "0.000",
"temp-cutoff" : "95",
"temp-overheat" : "85",
"temp-target" : "75",
"api-port" : "4028",
"expiry" : "120",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"hotplug" : "5",
"log" : "5",
"no-pool-disable" : true,
"no-submit-stale" : true,
"queue" : "0",
"scan-time" : "60",
"scrypt" : true,
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"
}

For your 5870, this suggests that you might want to stick with Catalyst 12.8.  Also, you'd probably want to bump thread_concurrency up to 6400.  Make sure kernel-path is correct for your system (on my Gentoo miners, for instance, /usr/lib/cgminer is the correct value). My 6870 delivers about 290-300 kH/s with this config.

FYI I tried cgminer 2.1 with catalyst 12.8 drivers. Still didnt work. When it didnt crash every two seconds i still just load out HW errors.

Will donate my first LTC To whoever figures this out!!

Oh also I'm running latest sdk, lastest drivers and cgminer 3.1?

Hey guys, pretty new at mining.

HD 5870

"
Cgminer --scrypt -o -pooledbits.com:8337 -u username -p password --shaders 1600 --intensity 18 --worksize 256 -g 1
"

I have cgminer and am attempting to mine ltc from a pool (pooledbits.com)

Basically I'm getting high hardware failure. In the 10 accepted I had 0 rejected and 340~ HW (30 minutes)

My pool is only showing 16Kh/s and cgminer is showing 400~.

I'm guessing the low hash rate on the pool is due to the hardware errors. Why on earth would I have hardware errors?
