The Catholic Church has long been compromised. Prohibition of priests to have a family is an anachronism which has no logical explanation. But it's causing sexual scandals among them. Sometimes I think that all Catholic priests are pedophiles. Maybe the current Pope in his youth was a pedophile and therefore covers those crimes.

It is not correct to label all the Catholic priests as pedophiles. Perverts exist in the clergy, among all the major religions. But what bothers me the most is the protection being offered to these priests by the Catholic church. They may be only 1% or 2% of all the priests. But by indulging in cover-ups, the church is bringing bad name to the remaining 98%, who are trying their best to serve the Catholic faithful.

The current pope (Jorge Mario Bergoglio) is a fraud and hypocrite of the first order. He is a master in playing double games. On one hand, he says that he is against the sexual abuse of choir boys by the bishops. And the next day, he promotes the pedophile priests. Also, last year he claimed that he sympathized with the native Americans. A few days later, he promoted one of those who perpetrated genocide against them (Junipero Serra) as a saint.

Disgusting. Looks like there won't be much change in the Catholic Church anyway, not regarding pedophile priests. Sigh, we've seen this time and time again, in countries wherever the Church has a significant influence. You priest fucked some boy? Move him to a different parish while you conduct "investigations". Heck, move him to a different province, or even a different country.

It would be fine if the priest is just in detention but no, it's business as usual for him, with the congregants in wherever he is reassigned clueless of why he is there. As a result, abuses pile up and even then, you really don't hear them going to jail.

I'd have to look this up.

Was it proven that the appointed bishop guilty of pedophile or sex abused?  I believe that the pope has the right to appoint anyone that meets his standard or based on the qualifications set by the catholic church.  Whether its on church or government, there would always be an issue to the appointments made by the appointee specially if the appointed was no good to the council.

I don't think this actual pope is the same as the old one, he is very different in his behavior and quality of life.
This Pope is definitely more liberal in his teachings while the last few and beyond were typically more conservative. Perhaps, it's what neck of the woods these guys were from that brought on the distinction but in any event, these scandal issues have always been dealt with w/i The Church itself rather than getting the state involved.

Several members of Pope Francis’s sex abuse advisory board have expressed concern and incredulity over his decision to appoint a Chilean bishop to a diocese despite allegations that he covered up for the South American nation’s most notorious paedophile. In interviews and emails with Associated Press, the experts have questioned the pope’s pledge to hold bishops accountable and keep children safe, given the record of Bishop Juan Barros in the case of the Rev Fernando Karadima. The five commission members spoke to AP in their personal and professional capacities and stressed that they were not speaking on behalf of the commission, which Francis formed in late 2013 and named Cardinal Seán O’Malley, archbishop of Boston, to head.
