Maybe they want to stole all the bitcoin in the exchange and said they have attack . That will realy drop a lot prices 
So it happened. The time of good old bitstamp coming to an end. Like you didn't see this coming...
If they can solve this and cover any potential losses it would strengthen their image as a reliable exchange and improve their security. Good things can come out of this.

What about MtGox or Moolah? Accounting practice failure or somebody found a loophole..
Best way to save an exchanger is reducing their temptation to make a runner with your moneh.Reducing that temptation can save the exchange site! Act accordingly.
