As long as the UTXOs from the transactions are unspent, your client can craft and sign a valid transaction before broadcasting it.

If you don't wait for it to fully synchronize, you might miss a few possible transactions that were sent more recently. Having it fully synchronized is the only way for you to be sure that you're not accidentally crafting any invalid transactions. Thank you all for sharing your experience. After about 10 hours the transaction completed. I've been so happy to see that the network is still sound after many years I haven't made any transactions.

Wish you have a nice weekend,

Cheers

I think this article would help you to broadcast your transaction, How can I recover funds from a Bitcoin Core wallet.dat file without having the entire blockchain downloaded? But don't use Bitpay, I will recommend for Electrum wallet to broadcast your raw transaction.

Be careful during sign a raw transaction about fees, sometimes people ended up with 100BTC fees.

I tried to use that best estimate of 0.00012 BTC/kb for a transaction of 0.5 BTC. Hopefully it will get confirmed.
Your transaction size depends on your input, output and type of transactions. It does not depend on value of transaction.

See the weekend effects and consolidation effects:

You can check the mempool size at https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#1,24h (it is for latest 24 hours, you can modify it to others: 2h, 4h, 2d, etc.) Currently high fees are required but believe me you can move your coins at 1 satoshi/byte. See difference in mempool size at different fee levels

That site coinb.in is a good one for you to quickly understand the effects of input and output on size and estimated fees of your transactions: change number of input, output, transaction types and see differences. I don't recommend you to use it for checking estimated fees because it uses the previous block data, not current and real time one. Sometimes that site get stucked and estimated fees are not correct.

May I ask if I chose a custom fee of 0.003BTC per kilobyte would be enough for a transaction to process please?

Denominate your fees in sat/byte, that’s the best terminology to use. Use this to give you a good ‘best fee’ estimate -

May I ask you, if I send some BTC from Bitcoin Core to Electrum now, will the transaction be completed within an hour or will I have to wait for the full sync of 3 weeks for the transaction to be completed please?
It depends on the fees. If you pay sufficient fee for its size, it shouldn't take too long. The confirmation time will not depend on when your sync is done.

As long as you can see your transaction on the blockchain, the transaction will be confirmed in a reasonable amount of time.

Hi Ranochigo,

Thank you for sharing.

My Bitcoin Core wallet is showing blockchain as of December 2016, and there are more than 3 years of data to download for around 3 weeks. That's a very long time to wait for a full sync.

I can see the current balance is exactly the same as I had before, because my last balance was in 2015 without making any transactions since that time.

May I ask you, if I send some BTC from Bitcoin Core to Electrum now, will the transaction be completed within an hour or will I have to wait for the full sync of 3 weeks for the transaction to be completed please?

Thank you a lot.

Best, T.

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if it's possible to send BTC from Bitcoin Core to another wallet (Electrum) when the blockchain is still downloading but the balance is already displayed please?

Thank you very much for sharing experience.

Best,

T
