You mean there is absolutely no display device where you intend to use that rig?
Crazy idea, that.

All of my rigs are all Ubuntu server based and none of them have displays. I find using displays with mining rigs a crazy idea :p

Was thinking Xubuntu. Ethos still same boat as need to boot to USB and not sure if it is configed to do that in BIOS.

I don't have the machine yet so trying to get all my ducks in a row so not stuck up in in-laws. Wanted to at least tweak GPU bios while up there.

Yeh, headless is normal. Just never started with a clean board with no display.

Do you mean using the USB drive as a hard drive?

All my gear is arriving at a house while I'm out of town where I'll have no HDMI monitor to use. Is it possible to install Xubuntu on a USB drive via my Mac, and then boot the rig for the first time totally headless? Or am I going to have to edit bios of mobo first to use USB as a boot device?

I guess I can always buy a cheap monitor and return it for the week I'm out of town but would prefer not to.
