Forum Updating takes only 10-15 minutes. This forum is running on 1.1.19 that means too old.
Current SMF Version is 2.0.9. Hope the Team will update it as soon as possible also, Changing the Theme will be a better idea too.

We are getting a new forum sometime next year.   Wink
Wow, Why next year? You can update this forum in a term of 10-15 minutes easily.

From what I heard of, a lot of modifications have been made on the SMF software.
Upgrading the software to 2.x will make them broken.

No, you can't.  There are a lot of custom programmed features that would probably break if they did a SMF upgrade.

If you want to post some flash files or something else you may always put it on some hosting site and provide links to it. I see no real problem here as long as links are allowed.

I don't think I'm mistaken at all, I'd simply settle for iframes, meaning I have full control of what is delivered and how it's delivered.

Content is subjective.

You're mistaken if you equate embedded media (video, flash, ...) with content.
Content is well thought out and properly worded information, news, opinion, discussion, occasional images and links are ok IMO but I really like that this forum generally does not flood me with crap (ok, that's partially because I stay away from some areas...).

Your not wrong that people "say" it's a security reason...whether it's true or not is in question.  Wink

There are sites that transform a (small) video into animated gif. Maybe that would help. I don't know which one I've used - quite some time ago - but I am sure that google can help with that.

Is there anything I can insert here other than bog standard images ?

I tried the "Insert flash" button and it just posts a link to the .swf.

I'm just trying to be creative with a presentation.

any chance ?
