It happened with me too . I was most demoted to member due to this thing in the past . Thank god there was no merit system then . Anyhow i have noticed some of my posts getting deleted as well . Maybe the forum is sweeping of the super old topics .
But i agree that we must be properly notified in the cases of deletion of self moderated topics . This would just let us know and we can cover the loss easily by that . For the people who are doing Signature campaigns it becomes very difficult to convince the manager regarding the post count.

But nonetheless, I think there should be some sort of notifications to let us know this is the reason.

Can you imagine how much work it would be if they deleted a couple of threads with over 2,000 replies.

I suspect the answer is to avoid those threads with hundreds of replies.

That's true we can not have such automated system as it will be extra load on the forum itself. Also it won't be problem for you because you don't have to do the coding behind that project but mods will have to. There is no meaning to such system which will notify you about your deleted thread as it would have been deleted after its purpose was served and it's being converted to junk thread by thousands of the same replies from different users. That's what I think about it.

Read this:

I did a recount of post counts earlier today. There are several bugs which cause the post count to drift from its real value over time. The current count is the accurate one.

I saw it go down by a few last week though also, probably part of one of those bugs though that he mentions.

Yup I myself have noticed this in the last few days or so, at least I am 5-6 posts short, and it would seem that a bulk of them happen in the last 48-72hrs. Add I can't figure out why. My only thinking is that maybe some old posts I have made in earlier in long threads have either been deleted or archived. But nonetheless, I think there should be some sort of notifications to let us know this is the reason. Because I also don't think my account has been hacked just to delete a few posts... LOL. I did get a post deleted a few weeks ago, and I got a message in my inbox saying that my post was in the wrong section or was not in line with that particular thread, so at least for that particular one I have a reason as to why. But for the ones which have happen this past few days, it's been very strange.

I think a lot of threads have been deleted, and your posts would go with them if they are in those threads. It's probably not personal, just part of a board cleanup.

That could probably be the case. However its normally at least a week after the post (as in my campiagn has already paid for that post and then it gets deleted, meaning the campaign isn't really getting as much of an advert it wishes (it is probably an OP locking and deleting a thread though once the answer has been found to their issue - or a moderator).

My post count went down substantially and I'm trying to work out why. I was wondering if you are supposed to get a message when a post is deleted form a self moderated thread as I assume that is the cause of this (either that or an error with a moderator deleting my posts without me knowing).

I don't think I have been hacked as someone would do something more substantial than delete a few posts (but I just want to make sure I haven't been hacked all the same though).
