I recommend you hold off until I buy. I'll let you know when this happens.

If you do this before I buy, bad things will happen!

Absolutely it helps!! I assume most people here already do this whenever they have an opportunity to make a credible comment. Even better, go to reddit and give people bitcoin tips using the tipping bot. (Look for new comments on popular links, especially those where people are like, "I regret that I have but one upvote to give.")

just make sure to tell them  " don't invest what you can't afford to lose, but it might just get to half a million for a coin. "

9.9.2012: I predict that single digits... <- FAIL
Lately I have been posting comments about Bitcoin on news sites.  My latest was after this article:  http://money.msn.com/top-stocks/7-signs-of-the-next-financial-crisis

I basically let people know that this was a reason why we should be buying Bitcoin.  With the economic uncertainty in the world today Bitcoin is a really smart thing to buy!

What do you think?  Could this increase awareness and cause more people to investigate and purchase bitcoin?  If we all posted more in the comments sections in articles like these we could probably have a great influence on the price I would think.

That's how I discovered Bitcoin in May last year. I'm very thankful to whoever posted that comment Smiley

When appropriate, I think raising awareness and showing people an alternative (with the reasons why bitcoin is a good alternative) is a very good idea.
The way you are phrasing this sounds somewhat like a cheap "pump and dump" though.

I guess I would not want a cheap "pump and dump" for the long term success of Bitcoin, but if past behavior predicts future behavior, we are still in for a bumpy ride regardless of what we want, or what is best so I just am trying to have some realistic expectations here.

I totally agree, we'll be in for a lot of volatility for a long time, and raised awareness goes hand in hand with higher prices.  I am just saying that I would prefer the motivation of the posts to be mainly for informing people of an alternative money system, and not to quickly get the prices higher.

Why do you want the price to rise? If you believe in Bitcoin long-term, wouldn't you want the price to go down in the short- to medium-term, so you can accumulate more coins for cheap to hold for the long-term?

I guess if you are done accumulating or a trader, my comments would not apply.

Cheers

Well, right now I have all of my extra money tied up in Bitcoin.  As it rises I was hoping to sell some and then hopefully purchase more as the price bounces a bit.  I guess I am hoping to speculate a bit that way.

I would think most people want the price to rise eventually?
